Subject: Combat Knife... a realistic weapon for Halo

This is for all those that believe the Combat Knife doesn't deserve to be in Halo. For all those that believe the Combat Knife wouldn't do anything to the shields and armor in Halo. For all those that believe the Combat Knife is to "primitive" for Halo.

What the &%^# do you think is on the end of the Brute Shot!

1.) Some of you say that the Brute Shot's blade is a "huge" blade that weights a lot and that's why it works in Halo. The only problem is that it's weight and size would actually make it worse of a weapon unless striking downward (which isn't how you melee with the Brute Shot). So it's weight and size actually don't help your point out, the blade and tip are what matters when talking about penetration, and a Combat Knife can be just as sharp and pointed as the blade on a Brute Shot.

2.) Do you even know anything about a Combat Knife? You guys think that Combat Knifes are these small pocket knives that people carry around, well your way off. The standard US military Combat Knife is a hunting knife that's usually 7" long and has been used since the 1890's and has been carried into battle by generations of Marines since WWII. A Machete is even classified as a Combat Knife in some infantry units.

3.) Some of you think that a Combat Knife wouldn't be able to penetrate the futuristic Armor/Shields in Halo. So tell me, how does using the butt of a gun work so much better then? And what about when Brutes knock your shields out with one punch? Or how Hunters can just charge into you and knock your shields out? They work to take out shields, why wouldn't a Combat Knife? Theoretically a pointed object would actually penetrate a Force Shield easier then a blunt object because of the stress put on the shield per square centimeter.

4.) Some of you say that it's to "primitive" a weapon for the future of Halo. What are you talking about? the Halo timeline takes place in the year 2552, that's only 546 years in the future. The Human race has been using knives since before recorded time! So if we haven't stopped yet, why would we in a mere 546 years? And besides! How do you know that a Combat Knife of the future will be the same as the Combat Knifes now? Maybe it's made of a different material, maybe it's blade is laser produced, ect.

5.) Some of you say that there's no place for a Combat Knife in the Halo games, yet in the books there's a Spartan that uses only Combat Knives. A Machete was even going to be put into the games by bungie themselves, and a Machete is classified as a Combat Knife by some military infantry.

Come on, what are some of your other "reasons" why a Combat Knife shouldn't be in Halo, cause I can tell you right now, their just bs.

Master Chief is way to badass for a knife. Plus, Halo isn't some freaking Counterstrike remake.

It would look even more badass for the mc to have a knife, depending on how they make it.

I dont like this, I mean I dont think it would work, it might if it was at the end of an AR or something. but jsut holding a little wussy blade(even if its 8 inches long) dosent compare to the length of the sword.

I have always liked the idea. I do think that a real blade would be nice, especially if you could throw it, like grenades or such.

And food for thought about people who love the sword so much (I like it as well.)

1) It doesn't make noise.

2) It has the possibility or being thrown.

3)It is much less noticable and could be camo'ed.

We already have a sword.
But it's the covenant.

In war, when your on one side and say:
"Hey let's give our men the (insert weapon here)"

the top dogs don't go and say:
"Naw, the other army already has that, our guys can just take theirs."

they say:
"Yeah, we need to give our guys their own version of that weapon to combat the enemies version of it"

Just like in campaign in Halo 2, when your the arbiter fighting the flood, another Elite says something about how the covenant need to make a weapon like a flamethrower to combat the flood. Thier not just gonna go over to the humans: "hey, you mind if we borrow your flamethrower so we can combat the flood?"

I think what you could do is make the knife a sort of third weapon which you always have. ( see the pistol in republic commando) Anyway, it would act exactly like the sword, except that it would only do half the damage and the lung range would only be about 3 feet.

Lunge Range for Combat Knife & Sword should be about 1-2 feet.

id be scared to be faced to face with a hunter, elite, brute, even a grunt with just a combat knife. i mean common, i knife? a knife is what i use to spead butter with, not to kill a demonic alien race threating to wipe out humanity.....

Kind of a long post about something as small as a Combat Knife. You do know Bungie doesn't really read these, don't you. At least the people who really work on the game don't.

maybe just make a large knife that is fixed on the end of the shotgun, and a bayonet lunge replaces the shotgun's butt whip melee from h1 and h2.

  • 05.15.2006 4:39 PM PDT

-Its a MG42!
-My favorite color is bubble shield

I think you put it in as a standard weapon you always had, maybe on the end of a hand or on the end of the battlerifle. But what it does is just make the shield work less efficently, like less before failing, or weaker after like 100 stabs.

combat knife is dumb idea! combat knives are used for stealth kills and halo is not a stealth game its a FPS first-person-shooter. maybe you got lost on the way to the splinter cell forums?

You do realize that a Combat Knife can be classified as a Survival Knife and a Survival Knife can be classified as a Survival Knife, right? A Machete is both a Combat Knife and a Survival Knife... The Bayonet is a Combat Knife that was redesigned with survival knife features. I think that all Combat Knifes and Survival Knifes today are one in the same...

Always wanted the Combat Knife-it is a great idea and you give great reasons for those non believers. And you are saying Master Chief without a gun and only a knife to fight off sveral Elites isn't badass. but with a sniper rifle from 400ft away is? Please.

Yeah. Thats right. Big blades are obviously weaker. Thats why it is always better to bring a knife to a broadsword fight because knives are stronger and better.

WTF are you thinking? How the crap could you actually think that the blade on the back of the brute shot could do less damage than a knife? What are you talking about? A big blade is weaker... I can't believe you actually think that! and the blade on the back of the brute shot would be worthless if the brute shot didn't also shoot grenades. You think someone would actually pick up a blade like that? When was the last time you picked up an empty brute shot? B/c that is about how often you are going to pick up a combat knife.

hell no, i dont want i knife, just because the knife is 8 inch long doesnt meen its as heavy and as powerfull as the brute shot bayonet, think about it. About half of the smg clip to kill someone if you keep it on them steadily, thats alot of "BULLETS" whats a knife gunna do to his sheilds? think of what mastercheif can surviv with those sheilds.

It's not a question of it being inpractical as trust me the master chief could use a combat knife. The issue lies in it's actual game use. It would either be a non glowwy sword or some minor weapon that when matched to normal melee attacks would just sort of bland in.

The only way I would really want a knife in the game would have to be some sort of a stealth kill that didn't allow the enemy team to see any indication of their team mate dead until he respawned and told them. Other than that it would act as a normal melee attack but would just be a way to sneak up and neutralize guards. As right now I have enough hatred for the sword and don't think I can stand another autolocking melee piece o crap.

Carrots.

We already have a sword, by the way, the brute shots blade is huge and heavy, why can it go so fast, and hurt and damage people? ERR.... Remember spartans are enhanced and they are super strong?
Besides, a combat knife wouldn't even scratch the thick armor, you try jabbing a knife into the six inch deep steel armor and you see if in penatrates, we already have a sword too.
