I heard that Jack Bauer is going to be a playable character in Halo 3 and that he comes equiped with a combat knive to ninja kill all those unsuspecting Covenant terrorists.

while were at it we can call Ryu from Ninja Gaiden and tell him to make a special appearance with a knife...

I think that bungie should put chuck noris' boot in the game and when you put it on you could do roundhouse kicks that could kill everyone on the map in one kick.

Yeah, I smoke weed. And yeah, I like it. So either torch this bowl with me or leave me alone.

Just remember man.... no matter how good you are, she's STILL thinking of me.

wow... i just gotta say.. some people.. are really... really.. really stupid... first.. wot do you do when say... you have a shotgun, you pump a round into an enemy, and his shields are down? for the most part, one doesnt take the 3 seconds to -blam!- the gun again. no, one goes in for the beat down correct? a knife would be much more.. effective... not to mention more satisfying... and to the moron who said the knife wouldnt pierce armor, are you like.. totally de de de? so your telling me a guy who can flip a tank cant pierce armor with a knife. but a pistol can go through the armor like a warm knife through butter?once your shields are down, you are pretty much dead. the armor doesnt do anything for you. and remember, its not all solid armor. there are places where its just rubber or something so the MC can move. aim for that and its a kill. these places are ussually near a major something, be it artery, vein, neck in general. so yeah.. think next time people... knife is more effective then the but of an SMG

1.) Some of you say that the Brute Shot's blade is a "huge" blade that weights a lot and that's why it works in Halo. The only problem is that it's weight and size would actually make it worse of a weapon unless striking downward (which isn't how you melee with the Brute Shot). So it's weight and size actually don't help your point out, the blade and tip are what matters when talking about penetration, and a Combat Knife can be just as sharp and pointed as the blade on a Brute Shot.
Ever hear of momentum of a blade like that? If it was heavy enough, it would easily rip through metals

2.) Do you even know anything about a Combat Knife? You guys think that Combat Knifes are these small pocket knives that people carry around, well your way off. The standard US military Combat Knife is a hunting knife that's usually 7" long and has been used since the 1890's and has been carried into battle by generations of Marines since WWII. A Machete is even classified as a Combat Knife in some infantry units.

Yes, a knife is effective against flesh, but steel?

3.) Some of you think that a Combat Knife wouldn't be able to penetrate the futuristic Armor/Shields in Halo. So tell me, how does using the butt of a gun work so much better then? And what about when Brutes knock your shields out with one punch? Or how Hunters can just charge into you and knock your shields out? They work to take out shields, why wouldn't a Combat Knife? Theoretically a pointed object would actually penetrate a Force Shield easier then a blunt object because of the stress put on the shield per square centimeter.

A force shield is just something that blocks anything that hits it. "Every action has an equal and opposite reaction" All it does is provide an equal reaction to protect the Spartan, until it cannot provide an equal opposite reaction. The sharpness of the object has nothing to do with it

4.) Some of you say that it's to "primitive" a weapon for the future of Halo. What are you talking about? the Halo timeline takes place in the year 2552, that's only 546 years in the future. The Human race has been using knives since before recorded time! So if we haven't stopped yet, why would we in a mere 546 years? And besides! How do you know that a Combat Knife of the future will be the same as the Combat Knifes now? Maybe it's made of a different material, maybe it's blade is laser produced, ect.

5.) Some of you say that there's no place for a Combat Knife in the Halo games, yet in the books there's a Spartan that uses only Combat Knives. A Machete was even going to be put into the games by bungie themselves, and a Machete is classified as a Combat Knife by some military infantry.

What military infanty are you referring to?

Come on, what are some of your other "reasons" why a Combat Knife shouldn't be in Halo, cause I can tell you right now, their just bs.

Halo 3: Collapse
Chapter 20, Revelations, is up (update 11-14-10)
The Mirratord

Ω

I say yes to the combat knife. It would be great for stealth kills and, as a last resort, it could be thrown.

Besides, ODSTs in Halo 2 carried them. They were the size of machetes.

Hm... why it would be good in the game...

1.) It would be a human equivalant to the Energy Sword.
2.) It would take more hits to kill, but would hit faster, and would be able to go camo.
3.) It would be a fun game type to play with only knives.
4.) This is a game based on military, me and my whole family have been in the military, and we know that a Combat Knife is a staple for military personell.
5.) The Combat Knife is a stable weapon for Spartans and some Spartans primarily use only a Combat Knife, as told in the books.

Besides, if you guys think that a Combat Knife would be really weak and wouldn't have a purpose, then why not let the Combat Knife into the game? Then you could play with whatever weapon you want and they can play with a Combat Knife. If you think it's as bad as you say it is, then you would like the idea cause you could kill those that use the Combat Knife easily... Or is it that your actually afraid of the Combat Knife being put in the game?

We already have a sword.
But it's the covenant.

In war, when your on one side and say:
"Hey let's give our men the (insert weapon here)"

the top dogs don't go and say:
"Naw, the other army already has that, our guys can just take theirs."

they say:
"Yeah, we need to give our guys their own version of that weapon to combat the enemies version of it"

Just like in campaign in Halo 2, when your the arbiter fighting the flood, another Elite says something about how the covenant need to make a weapon like a flamethrower to combat the flood. Thier not just gonna go over to the humans: "hey, you mind if we borrow your flamethrower so we can combat the flood?"

Look a 7 inch ceramic knife is nothing compared to a 3 foot sword made of pure energy that can hack through almost any armour with ease. Show me a knife that can cut through a block of steel and I'll show you divine intervention.

I don't think they'd have a knife because it would be unfair, they'd have to make a knife a one hit kill then, it might be considered to gory, cs copy, plus we already have the plasma sword, as if that isn't unfair enough.

Than again... ok I would only except the combat knife if it could be clipped onto your armour as a third weapon.

Hm... Yes, let's think about that... (Knife)One can be heard, the other can't. (Knife)One can be camoed, the other can't. (Knife)One can consecutivly strike, the other can't. (Sword)One can instant kill, the other can't.

It sure seems balanced... A lot more balanced then if there was just the sword in the game(like Halo 2)

Yeah. Thats right. Big blades are obviously weaker. Thats why it is always better to bring a knife to a broadsword fight because knives are stronger and better.
Ok look... come at me with a dagger when I have a broadsword and we'll see what happens.
No way in Hell you would be able to block when I cut you in half.

ummm... when the charge runs off on the energy sword... it is pretty much use + less. so, a knife wouldnt work on elites or master c, or brutes, or anybody besides grunts and jackals... so why bother?

I'm guessing you don't know much about a Combat Knife, because if you did, then you'd know that a Combat Knife is rarely used for stealth. It is a common myth that cutting somebody's throat with a knife is a stealthy alternative to using unsilenced firearms. The opponent is more likely to gurgle and thrash around for some period of time until the brain's oxygen supply runs out, usually creating noise in the process.

That is complete bs. If you get behind someone, cover his mouth, and cut his jugular no noise death in about 3 or 4 seconds.
