Reach is total garbage. I'm proud it failed and died. Hope this message gets to 343 and they make a proper game.

Quit competitive Halo, I have acquired something called "having a life". Play it time to time as of now. Some people should also try this thing called "having a life".

What would make Halo 4 sick is simple. Take Halo 3 and expand in every way of that game.

Campaign - continue from Halo 3, was a very epic campaign in my opinion (Ex. the level "The Covenant" had a little bit of everything and "Tsavo Highway were my most memorable). Please no more barrel rolling elites and such. If anything make the AI like they were in Halo 2, that is the only game where I got scared seeing an elite running at me with his energy sword before he'd shake his head and yell "blarg blarg blarg".

Forge - Do something like forge world but make the objects less bland and grey. Whole objects like walls and bridges should have the ability to change colours.

Custom games - Halo 2 and 3 were the only games where I'd spend hours and hours with my friends messing around in there. Something about Halo 2 and 3 did well with was custom games like Hide and Seek in Halo 2 or infection in Halo 3. When I was bored I would enjoy rocket race or something wierd like that on Valhalla, it was very enjoyable whereas with Reach I sold the game off in a week.

Matchmaking - Bring back the trueskill system, who cares if people buy their 50's off others. Who didn't like to smack people who bought their 50's? It was hilarious doing that and for people who cheat for their 50's this rarely happened in Halo 3 and it was still more enjoyable then that half assed game called "Reach". If I wanted to reach the highest level in the game and never win a match I'll go play Call of Duty, I come to Halo when I want competition and see where I stand against others, when I feel like having fun then I'll go play social because that is what it's for. Put in double XP weekends like before with unique gametypes and do interesting things with the community like the Bungie vs World playlist, 343 Favourites, etc.

Theater - Make it the same as Halo 3. It was perfect. Me and my friends would always go in with the 4 of us and watch our match and we'd be like "omg check this double no scope coming up", "omg that was clucth!", "you just pooped on him"! It's no fun watching by yourself. I never even touched the theater in Reach after I realized only 1 person could view it.

In general - No more bloom, armour abilities should be placed on the map and not have the ability to be with the person on spawn. Make it so a few maps have 1 armour lock somewhere in the middle of the map or a bubble shield on the outskirts of the map just like Halo 3 did. This would save a lot of frustration. Remove the credit system completely it's really dumb. The only way you should get armour is via achievements and obtaining EXP via multiplayer. Do something like the hidden skulls in campaign for a new set of armour like the hayabusa from H3.

Firefight - Cool idea and should not reward you EXP for your multiplayer stats. Give players a new incentive to play it such as obtaining achievements or new armours. Look at what makes Black Ops zombies so successful and try to implement that into the new game.

End note: I have not played Reach since 2010 so I have no idea what has changed, so this viewpoint of mine is solely based on how the game played out back in 2010. If I have stated something which has already been changed then my bad and props to 343 for fixing.

Bungie is no longer managing the Halo Universe. While our Halo-related forums and stats remain available, be advised that "official" answers and support about the Halo Universe (past, present, or future) are not.

Halo's new home which is run by 343Inds.

I am quite aware of 343 and Bungie. I want to hear your opinions how to make the next Halo not fail as hard as Reach.

Pretty much all you want is it to be like Halo 3 then? Lol. That's not a bad thing but it's not much of an opinion.

Basically yes, why fix something not broken?

Just take Reach's superior netcode/handling of lag and the Grenade Launcher and base the rest of it off Halo 3, and I think Halo 4 will be a winner.

Because I don't want to spend 80+ bucks on a brand new game that is a carbon copy of a 4 year old one.
Halo 3 was a great game but it's outdated. If they want to keep up with the way games are advancing they will need to make it different.

If anything I want matchmaking to be a bit faster. Takes too long to find a game in any Halo game..

H3 1-50 isn't coming back. Players were making money off Microsoft's creation (TureSkill) and that's a no no.

That's due to the low population. There isn't anything they can do about that

The population has actually improved a bit in the past couple of months (It's up to around 120k during the evening instead of between 60-80k like it was before) but yeah, the population is still quite low for a Halo game only a little over a year after release.

Getting a 50 in Halo 3 was too easy that is why they got sold off. Make it take a lot more games to achieve a 50 and ban those boosters who go -2000 EXP to boost their friends. If it takes ages to achieve the highest rank no one will want to sell them off. Somehow give players the ability to level up solely by winning but it takes a while to achieve maximum rank, problem solved.

I specifically said to expand on the game so that it isn't a carbon copy. Ex. Improve graphics, new forge, new maps, bigger campaign, new firefight modes, but at the same time keep the core of Halo there like shooting, melee, and nades etc.

There should be some sort of set EXP system to getting a 50 IMO.

The higher rank the players you beat/lose to are relative to your rank, the more EXP towards ranking up you earn.

For example:

A level 35 beats a level 40 player. The Level 35 player gains 25 rank EXP while the level 40 loses around, eh, say 15 EXP. Every rank would require higher and higher EXP to achieve, so while Level 1 to Level 2 might take about 50 EXP to get to level 49 to level 50 would take something like 2000 EXP. (Note, this EXP is not the same as conventional Halo 3 EXP). Only YOUR rank will be measured in relation to your opponent's as well, so as to prevent level 1 accounts from boosting their friends along.

Just a rough outline of the idea I had for a ranking system. Obviously more exact measurements of the Exp gain/loss and EXP to the next level would be required, but you get the general idea. Also, no credit just for playing, of course. Win and go up, lose and go down. Ties net no gain or loss.

lol what? That wouldn't solve account selling at all.
People bought 50s because they couldn't get them themselves. Making them harder to obtain would just make people use less than legit methods to get the 50s faster to sell.

Just make the ranking system win/loss based but base how fast your rank.changes solely on your own w/l ratio and the highest rank on the enemy team in the game, not your teammates,

  • 01.25.2012 2:40 PM PDT

Also as an addendum: losing a whole bunch at level 1 of my rank system would not make it any harder or easier to rank up, since it would be straight EXP based and you wouldn't go into negatives on this EXP. Quits would counts as losses obviously.

Interesting idea. I hated how winning didn't matter anymore in Reach when I was so used to doing it since Halo 2's time. It was too big of a change for me. Winning should always matter more than K/D ratios and stat building.

I read it.. Something to add to that- an undo button in forge.

Also, to pacify the cR loving crowd, you can keep the cR ranks, just don't have them play into the actual rank system. I actually like the idea of the Armory for permutations, just not the fact that cR is what builds you rank in Reach. Also, to encourage people to get out and play the Ranked lists, make certain Armory items available only after attaining certain ranks in Ranked play. Perhaps make cR ranks that will increase your "grade" rank, but not your actual level, similar to how in Halo 3 EXP could advance you in grade but in order to attain the next rank tier one would have to attain a certain Trueskill level.

Good idea except if you put certain armour unlocks into ranked there will be chances of people boosting for these unlocks. Also, I guess you could make other things like firefight and campaign give you certain amounts of cR towards buying armours. Keeping armour effects out of ranked would be good as well.

Well, with my proposed rank system the only way to really boost would be to either arrange matches somehow so you can get people to lose to you on purpose (which still wouldn't be terribly helpful due to the sliding EXP gain scale) or to perform network manipulation, which is gonna happen with any sort of competitive ranking system regardless.
