Yes, there're too many numbers in my name.

Maybe this should be a perk for getting a higher title or something to that effect.
I believe it was Duardo who said the titles are of no general use and are simply for fun. Everyone's equal, except for a minor difference of tinted pixels and added words.

People'd put it on and get offended.

Not to mention certain Ninja's have a thing against potty mouth and if they don't want to see into the filter, we shouldn't force them. X0x0x0x00x0xX0x

Do you honestly want to see this uncensored?
Yeah, the blam filter just ruined a potentially funny insult.

I'd like to be able to switch it off, words don't really offend me like that.

I'm 23, I have a house, dog, girlfriend, job and I have no interest in any fanboyism so if you're thinking about sending me a childish PM, don't be surprised when I don't call back.

It's only annoying with words that are critical to the thread being filtered out, otherwise I have no problem.

I was a finalist :P

If it's a self toggling option, I don't see why not. People who don't want it, can still view the forums "cleanly", while others who don't really care for swearing in everyday context - and who don't get offended - can view it in their way too. It should all have to do enhancing users experiences, without restricting the domain to everyone.

Life?
I have the internet and Doctor Who; i don't need a life.

well swear words i don't particularly mind being filtered but *being attracted to the same sex*, *national socialist* and *male genitalia* should definitely be taken off the censor list.

smart, interesting, seems out of place.

Official fan of Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, (Problem with that?) Halo, and Bungie, also a total gaming junkie.

The feeling is mutual my good sir.

"I have no words that would do justice to the atrocities you commit to the English language, as well as your continued assaults on the concepts of basic literacy and logical reasoning."

You can't turn it off for performance reasons.

If I can work out the performance concerns, it is possible that this could change, although the "uncensored" version might still have a few things in it that I would filter out.

But yeah, I've thought about it more than you'd probably guess; I even think I have a good way to avoid the perf problems.

You need to take another look at your -blam!- list then.

Bye.

I always wondered when they were making the filter did the web team sit and think up swear words for the "Naughty Words To Be Un-Naughtied"? 'Cause that sounds like a job I'd be good at.

I believe it was mentioned in a previous thread about the filter that they used a list provided by Microsoft (I believe it was Microsoft's MSN team or something like that) to censor. I'll try to find it...

EDIT: Here,Posted by: Achronos
(1) There aren't.

(2) The list was originally taken from a list the MSN guys gave me that was huge. I removed a bunch of stuff, added in a few, and set it. This was to replace a complex regex that I still have that served us well before 2004. The list can be easily changed if I cared to do so. I don't care to at this time.

A long time ago I heard that they use a version of a filter that MSN had.

Something I've always wondered about the profanity filter is how it stores the -blam!-. When it overwrites your profanity does the site still know what you actually said or is the entire thing overwritten, meaning that if we got a uncensored version stuff written before it was implemented would still be censored?

It stores the censored version. That's one of the reasons you can't turn it off - we'd have to parse every forum post you view on load, rather than just displaying what's in the db.

The obvious solution to that is to store both the censored and uncensored text, but again, as our time is limited, investing in making it easier for you to say naughty words is not exactly high on the priority list.
