I was whining about people deleting the OP in the first place and how it sucks that we have to do this because of that.

I'm totally fine with this request and support it completely.

It's perpetually my time of the month and I'm just grouchy. Quote me on that.

You need to post more often Cortana. You seem to have a way of eloquently putting the peons in their place.
I'm not sure when or where, but I am positive that there will come a point in time when this quote is in dire need.

OT: I don't understand where the argument here is. I personally don't think the OP should ever be edited with "PLZ LOCK MISTEAKS MAED HEAR!," but dmg is simply asking that someone quote the OP in preparation for the point when the OP is replaced. I really don't think this is too much of a request, no matter your beliefs on the issue of the OP editing.

As much as I dislike it when people randomly quote the whole OP for no reason, it can useful if the OP edits their post to "people don't agree with me, lock please".

  • 01.26.2012 12:18 AM PDT

I suspect llamas are secretly wizards. I <3 poptarts n' milk. I like me. Grimick is defined as: a logical parodox, the act of funnaling a potato down your throat, and a deliciously flavored muffin (with pecons and blueberries). Norway is the Swedish word for 'moron'. My sister has cancer, so i get to use handicap parking and cut small children in line at Disneyland.

"Don't eat doughnuts on thin ice."

"The pancake, my friend, has officially been flipped."

I guess sometimes this would be helpful, but usually if it was the author doesn't want it read or the user was banned then the thread wasn't worth reading anyways. Besides, I usually don't miss what the topic was about. Especially the Achronos vs. DeeJ ones :)

For the record, I would like the clarify that my previous posts didn't target you specifically. I was raging at the general populace of people who have this delusion of having these magical things called "rights" on the site, giving them the power to terminate discussions as they please.

Well considering it was my thread that was put up as an example I 'll explain....I created the thread while I was drunk and apparently there's really no discussional value in it so there's no point in keeping it open any longer. Pretty simple actually.

I actually didn't look at the example, but mainly when I see someone wanting their thread locked it's because the majority of users disagree with them.

I suppose OP can go through every thread and quote the OP of those threads. Just in case. No one will be confused.

I <3 you too Bungie

If you are still trying to figure that OP out I believe it was "Deej vs. Achronos, who would win". I agree that it would be helpful at times to have the first post quote the OP. as a general request I think it is a good idea, especially if you see there being good value to the thread.

I disagree. If the OP wants the thread locked, then the discussion value is gone and it doesn't matter what it said in the first place.
The OP doesn't matter. The community should decide if it has discussion value, not the member that happened to create the topic.

"Oh, you disagree with me? Then I'll just ask for the topic to be locked." <-- Immature mindset of many users.

“Strange,” mused the Director, as they turned away, “strange to think that even in Our Ford’s day most games were played without more apparatus than a ball or two and a few sticks and perhaps a bit of netting. imagine the folly of allowing people to play elaborate games which do nothing whatever to increase consumption.”

I no I don't have rights but is it wrong for me to ask the thread I created that clearly has no value to it(not just in my eyes) to be terminated like the one presented in the OP or should I just change it back and leave it?
If it has no value it will die of its own accord.

The fact of the matter is, and people of higher standing have said it before, that once you hit "submit," the thread is not your property. It's not your thread.
Completely irrelevant considering the fact that it IS NOT against the rules to take your OP, delete it in its entirety, and ask for the thread to be locked by replacing your OP with said request. It is completely legal under the rules of the site.

Whether it's my thread or not (I know it is not), under the current rules, I'm allowed to do it, ED's allowed to do it, any immature person who dislikes the fact that people are disagreeing with their stupid opinion can do it, etc.

Is it annoying as -blam!-ing hell? Of course it is. Should they be allowed to do it? ...Yes.

Edit: I honestly can't -blam!-ing believe that you guys are, at this point, arguing for the reinstatement of a thread about DeeJ FIGHTING Achronos.

I acknowledge my user name is stupid. However, I promise I'm not.

Disclaimer: The latter is a lie.

I really couldn't care less, to be honest.

"We live in a special time; the only time where we can observationally verify that we live in a very special time" - Lawrence Krauss.

I was a finalist :P

It's more of a too bad scenario. If the OP edits their post and no one has quoted it, too bad. If a user has replied and quotes the OP's initial post prior to editing, then it's just an unfortunate case for the OP.

In any case, edited posts usually (from personal experience) infer that the OPs question has already been answered by others in the thread (and feel as if any more replies would result in unnecessary bumping) and threads involving good discussion are usually easy to gain a broad idea of the topic by reading the replied posts, regardless of quoting.

Yes, there're too many numbers in my name.

Fair enough. Besides, it isn't even that much more work to do.

Why are you reading my signature? Who actually opens these things and reads them!

And as always, SEND ME A PM. Please. Or really bad things will happen to you.

I think this would be a perfect time for the OP to change his post to "Topicz over".

I'm not a fan of removing the OP either. If someone posted a thread in the wrong forum, I don't mind. But the whole "the question has been answered and I'm done so I'm killing the thread" edit bugs me. If you are done with the thread you started, just stop posting in it.

Got a question, comment, or concern? PM me.

It is especially annoying when people ask for help for their xbox or something, and then edit the thread to say "Nvm, I fixed it" or something like that.

What if I have that same problem one day? I could've used that thread. At least tell us how you fixed it...

This is pretty much my opinion about it. It's not really even about ongoing discussion value. There maybe other people who were planning on asking/saying the same thing as the OP, so why not leave it there for their benefit?
