i am starting a gaming company this year and are hoping to have our first game published by new years eve 2012, we have a high budget but i need to know the programs i need to use in order for my developers and graphic designers to make a game with the least amount of hassle

Happiness is a warm gun

If you are looking to start making games by yourself, you need not worry what Bungie or 343 is using.

If I were you I would honestly try something widely available and easy to use. The benefits of this would be in acquiring resource information.

I would suggest 'unreal engine' or 'cryengine' development kits

You're just starting and you want to release a game by the end of this year?

You're not also planning on this game being on the Xbox are you?

  • 01.26.2012 11:11 AM PDT

pretty sure halo 2 used the havok physics engine. while halo 1 used one that one of the founders of bungie took with him when he left after making halo 1. at least that's what some one said on this site. don't know how reliable that is. not sure about 3 or reach.

Havok is just the thing that makes stuff move in a realistic way. That isn't used to build the game.

no we are not currently developing for XBOX live but it is on our business plan in the future, i am planing on XBOX live development early 2015, we do not have a huge budget and some of the developers in my company are close friends and have agreed to work for less until the company has a more realistic budget and can afford it. one day i am hoping to have a joint membership with Bungie but I'm not sure if that will ever happen

You should start out with Indie games for PC. That's a field that you can break into easily.

Always up for REACH customs!

Probably 3D rendering stuff like Maya.

  • 01.26.2012 11:28 AM PDT

i know stuff like 3DS Max and other 3d modelling software but i need the programs for compiling the game, not just graphics and modelling but the other aspects swell, it needs to be relatively simple to use as we do not have many employees yet and they are not very experienced programers. we were going to use Microsoft XNA game studio but the developers we have are not very familiar with it and was wondering if there was anything easier, we need programs for developing maps, 3d models, compiling programs and basically everything you need for developing games for multiple platforms, we will need to develop for Windows and Macintosh and in the future possibly XBOX live and Playstation network.
