PM the mod that locked it.

I see that thread as advertising though.

Also, it could have very easily turned into a flame war between the different groups.

Sorry about this thread, but there's no other way for me to ask.

Actually it would have been better to PM any mod with your question. Regardless of who locked your thread and why, the mods all understand the rules. You would have received your answer.

I'd be interested to know the reasoning. I assume it's that there probably wouldn't be any real discussion of which is the best group and why, just zealots from either side exclaiming their opinions as if it were fact and being condescending to those that would disagree with them. Basically it seems like a good idea for a thread but threads like that are just flamebait.

"Except we, we're the zebras. All fenced in...and ready for the slaughter!"

Probably b/c it would eventually lead to a glorified group advertising thread. That just makes sense.

First off, I'd bet you know why it was locked, there's no way you could honestly expect that chat to be civil.

Second, if you're really interested in trying to argue with the moderation team (and you don't know which mod locked it), hit up a master moderator.

Well, I was asking about the "most known" groups, not the "best," so hopefully that would cull any sort or bragging and flaming about which group is "better."

It wouldn't.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

Because there is not discussion value. We all know who the best is.

Key

Because it'll turn into a way to advertise threads in the 'Gon, just because of heightened popularity of this forum (compared to that of the Classifieds).

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

Threads about specific private groups are often locked in this forum. They rarely pertain to the community as a whole, and the vast majority of this site's visitors do not participate in private groups whatsoever. As a place for community discussion, this forum tends to focus on this site's public elements rather than private cliques and groups which -- as you yourself noted -- are closed off and inaccessible to the general public.

Most threads about private groups, especially the ones that are more well-known, end in squabbling and arguments, and this one almost certainly would have as well. Threads about specific private groups (especially those with closed membership, but really all private groups) are probably best posted in those private groups rather than the public forums.

I did not lock it, but I would tend to agree with the decision to do so.

Who the hell do you think I am?

All it would have been was a thread glorifying groups on bnet. I don't think it really had any discussion value.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

It is subtle advertising.

seems like it belongs in the classifieds if you ask me

I understand nothing because my life is a conspiracy.

Since it deals with groups, it probably belongs in the classifieds.

And lol @ the "it belongs in the classifieds" posts. smh

I shall lawl and lawl if they get banned.

It frustrates me that those topics are locked. They are an aspect of the site, and if we want to talk about our favorite ones, then why not? However, yours might've been seen as some sort of popularity contest or something.
