I couldn't find a topic (I’m sure there is one, I just couldn’t find one) dedicated specifically to changes that Halo fans want to be present in Halo 3, so I made this thread. I took these ideas from one of my past posts on Gamespot.
First of all I too would want better ways for Bungie to stop the out-of-control modding and cheating (maybe better feedback monitoring so they can detect cheaters quicker by listening to people’s feedback or just better software that can detect cheating and modding).
I would also like one vs. one to return to matchmaking (I miss that matchmaking option). They should also allow you to use melee attacks if you don’t have any weapons (it doesn’t make sense that you can make game modes without any weapons, but you can’t punch people when playing them).
The next set of changes that I want involve betrayals. I don’t think game sessions should have a limit to how many times you can boot a person for betrayals (so they don’t keep returning and betraying you until you can’t boot them anymore). There should also be an option screen each time someone betrays you asking if you would like for them to receive a penalty (respawn penalty, not a score penalty) or not because sometimes betrayals are purely accidental and I don’t want my teammates to be penalized with a longer respawn time (which can sometimes mess up your team in matchmaking). I also don’t think that you should get a betrayal penalty when you stick one of your enemies and they run into your teammate (how could you control that?).
Bungie should also give you the option to turn auto-aim off. It sucks trying to snipe when there’s three people right next to each other and the auto aim keeps moving away from the target that you want to shoot.
Online co-op is something that a lot of people wish would have been in Halo 2 and should definitely be in Halo 3 (online co-op worked great in Chaos Theory, among other games, and should work great in Halo 3).
Bungie should also give you more game settings options. Maybe even allow you to decide which weapons/vehicles you want or don’t want on a map (kind-of-like how you can customize the game variants) and where you want them (just relabel those customized map settings so people know that it’s not the standard weapon/vehicle placement set-up). Among those options should be the ability to choose if you want unlimited ammo or grenades or if you want starting grenades and how many if you do. For some reason you can select starting grenades, but if the map doesn’t normally spawn you with grenades (such as Backwash), you can never spawn with grenades. I would also like the option to choose my spawn point in custom games (so I can avoid spawning in an area where I know I can get readily sniped). I would also want a map-editor like the one on Far Cry: Instincts (Halo 2 for the PC is getting a map editor, so I feel Halo 3 deserves one as well) where you can make your own maps and play them on Xbox Live (they should give you an opti-match system to accompany it so you can join unranked/custom matches with people that aren’t on your friends list).).
