Subject: Forerunner AA

If, by default, Spartans can Sprint and Elites can Evade; what would a Forerunner's base ability be?

Warp: It would be similar to Evade but instead of rolling a short distance, you teleport a short distance. Single use then fast recharge. Moves you the distance of 1 Evade. Can teleport though walls.

Thoughts?

Duardo = retard

So you think Reach is an actual Halo game, huh? LOL
Jesus! There's a BoB in ma Falcon!

Most likely, they can teleport wherever they want.

Lieutenant in the ArchAngels clan. Contact tidalrider for information regarding joining.

We already have lag for this.

Can teleport though walls.

You'd constantly be going out of bounds and dying, so how about it works like this...

You press L1 to show a waypoint of WHERE you'd go, and upon releasing it would teleport to said location. You can't go through ALL walls, only the ones designated in game (no going through floors and ceilings to get outside of maps, etc.)

My problems [with Reach] are basically just full parties, mlg, and people who go out of their way not to get killed.

We know next to nothing about their infantry but if their ground forces have technology on par with their fleets and civil institutions (a logical presumption) they could do pretty much anything.

Anything ranging from self and team healing technology to increased damage output.

Nothing that could be remotely balanced in Halo, for the record.

I disagree about constantly going off of maps. The Warp maneuver's direction is controllable, like Evade, and the distance you move is constant, like Evade. Once you get the feel for how far you teleport I doubt you'll be sending yourself off the map.

As for not being able to go through all walls, I agree. The outer walls, that signify the maps boundaries, could not the teleported through. Only walls could be Warped through, not floors or ceilings.

by default their armor ability will say "LAG".

The Forerunners have some powerful technology on their hands, but they cannot slow down time like that. Or, if they do, I highly doubt any random footsoldier would be given anything of the sort.

Remember, relatively speaking, the Forerunners are still pretty low in terms of sci-fi tech.

They are still leaps and bounds ahead of the UNSC, though.

That's kind of like saying a trained swordsman is leaps and bounds ahead of a Neanderthal with a rock - it's true, but a sword is still primitive by today's standards of warfare.

I am not sure what you are comparing the Forerunners to, sorry. I mean, if you are comparing them to other sci-fi universes, that seems quite moot, no?

In the Haloverse, their technology is damn near godlike. Compared to other sci-fi universes, they most likely would look utterly incompetent by comparison.

I know that, but without specifics it is pointless and it still seems pretty moot.

Probably gonna be a long post, but...

Doctor Who. Weapons that destroy reality itself. The Forerunners have displayed nothing coming anywhere close to destroying anything more than a galaxy - reducing it to almost zero population, but not destroying the galaxy itself.

Star Wars. The Force. They couldn't get anywhere close on foot, and that's if they could get soldiers on the ground at all.

Warhammer 40,000 has actual gods running around, and IIRC planet-busting weaponry.

Gurren Lagann (damn good anime, BTW). Giant robots throwing galaxies like shuriken and recreating the Big Bang as an attack and then creating universe-sized giant robots.

Metroid. Oh, I'll enjoy this one. Samus could probably solo a few of them, given her suit. I did a bit of research and apparently she can walk across the surface of the sun in that thing. The Forerunners have no weapons capable of giving off that much firepower, save the Halos. She's would probably do what she does to everything else to them...and then blow up whatever planet she's on, naturally. And let's not get into the rest of the Metroidverse.

Any of those universes alone would make mince out of not just the Forerunners, but probably the rest of the Halo universe as well.

Of course the Forerunners don't have anything like the Warhammer universe or the Star Wars universe - they don't have magic/gods running around.

I'm just saying that, sure, the Forerunners may not be as advanced as Professor Dumbledore but they are still VERY intelligent and FAR beyond the current capabilities of the UNSC.

Which we've already been over, yes.

This conversation seems to be going in circles now - what do you say we end it here?

The way I look at Forerunner tech is like this:

Anything you have ever seen in Halo (teleporters, grav lifts, shield doors, hard light, et cetera) is fully understood by the Forerunners and exists in many different forms.

Example:

You've seen grav lifts.
You haven't yet seen the gravity grenade.

Oh, most definitely; neither the UNSC or the Covenant have any real clue how the Forerunners' weaponry work, and given that Cortana managed to make their guns far more effective by switching a few things around, the Covenant are just scratching the surface of their potential, not only of the magnitude of the technology's effectiveness but also how it could be used in other ways.
