I'm gonna have to relate Marathon to Halo for a minute.

Marathon 1--Durandal goes rampant because of having to do too much commands at once while defending the Marathon against the pfhor (at least I think that's why he does). This allows Durandal to break through the boundaries set for him in the network. his rampancy constantly increases into higher, more dangerous stages. His rampancy grows to the point where Leela has to shut him off from the rest of the Marathon. Then, he breaks through even more, claiming that he has defied the laws of the universe, and begins rapidly teleporting you all over the ship, and even onto the pfhor ship, to learn about the pfhor race. Eventually, you become Durandal's pawn.

Marathon 2--You venture to L'howon, a planet being attacked by pfhor, and home to the 11 s'pht clans. Here, Durandal has you go through many missions to unlock the full potential of the 11th clan and to strike back at the pfhor.
Later on, as the pfhor weaken Durandal, his rampancy starts up again, and he pleads for you to destroy him. After you make a half-assed attempt at doing so, Tycho captures you and begins to manipulate you into doing his bidding. You join the pfhor side temporarily. Which is Marathon: Infinity.

I see a connection here. Cortana represents Durandal, because she has gone rampant. She even says she has defied the gods, like Durandal says. The forerunner most likely represent the s'pht, and you probably have to locate a hidden race of forerunner beneath earth's crust. Or maybe that large disc structure is like an entrance to a hidden place that houses the forerunner. And you need to unlock their potential to wipe out the brutes. Perhaps that structure is the ark...but maybe the ark is not a "savior" device. Maybe it's a risk. Perhaps releasing the forerunner could be detrimental to humanity as well.

I am also suspecting that Truth is dead before the anouncement trailer takes place. Halo 2 ended with Chief being a stowaway on Truth's ship, yet in the trailer, Chief is alive and well, save for a few scratches here and there. I think Chief kicked Truth's ass. I also think Chief will be forced to "kill" Cortana at some point in the game. Come on, she is rampant to the point that she is bipolar. These are probably her early rampant stages. For all we know, she could teleport Chief to some covie capital ship.

I also think Johnson, 343 Guilty Spark, Miranda, and the Arbiter will die. Why? They're stranded on Delta Halo, and Chief's objective is to destroy the rings, remember? frankie said that the game will be darker, and my theory is indeed dark. But I mostly see a connection to Marathon.

has anyone ever thought that the forerunner may not be a human-like lifeform, like maybe the forunners are like energy or something weird like that? right now i think they are but halo's story is very abstract and maybe we've been looking at this the wrong way. i dunno, i will most likely always think that they are human, but there is a growing doubt in my mind.
