Subject: Temp ban? This is ridiculous

I was just informed that I have a temp ban? I have looked everywhere and it seems that this only happens for boosting and afk-type players.

I am far from either of those. The worst thing I have done in this game is yoink a teammate!

The ONLY thing I can think of is that I have been playing with my friend (he is a guest), who is new to xbox and thus horrible at this game- so yes, he is very bad, but he is not even close to afk.
If this is why this has happened, I am very offended. How the hell is he supposed to learn this game without me getting a temp credit ban?? Don't you have a way to know that he is running around and shooting? Just because he isn't getting kills doesn't mean he is afk at all.

I have lost a lot of respect for Bungie.

If the player is THAT bad it can't even get a kill in Matchmaking, its your own fault, and you should have played Custom Games. It always seems to be the same story

"I let my 2 year old play!"
"I let my friend play"

And you will always get the same answer. It your fault.

If it is such a huge issue for you, have an extra account. Whenever one of my accounts gets a 15 min quit ban because I didn't want to play hemorrhage 5 times in a row I just go on my other account and keep playing =) Best work around to a broken ban system lol.

  • 01.26.2012 9:33 PM PDT

That is horse -blam!-. You don't get better by playing custom games. You didn't learn from custom games, no one does.

He wasn't even playing as me, but as guest. He usually gets a kill a game, but a couple times he didn't.

I used to think Bungie was a good company, but now i'm -blam!- ing glad 343 is taking over Halo. Maybe they won't be insensitive douches, just like you "Nowise"

  • 01.26.2012 9:37 PM PDT

I can't afford an extra account.. Not paying that much to not get banned for having a bad guest

  • 01.26.2012 9:38 PM PDT

The message states that it isn't just the account, but the console that is banned. So making another account is not going to evade it.

And "bad guest" or not, it is picked up by the system. For all we know, you could be lying.

Relax. I'd rather not piss this thing off.

Just move on.. learn from ones mistake.. also custom matches are very informtive to newer players to Reach. As far as bad guest you may want to look at this.

You can look at the game history and see that he is getting a kill or so a game. He just got 5 kills last game, but we are temp credit banned...

My question is why the system is so stupid as to not look at movement but at # of kills. You could watch the replays- he was trying. Only bungie could design something so incredibly stupid.

I promise you that I am not lying. This is something worth getting truly upset about.

  • 01.26.2012 9:55 PM PDT

I understand now that this must happen, but that doesn't mean that it isn't stupid.

In the article explaining the banhammer, it lists all of the reasons why it would act- and playing badly is not one of them.

This is downright wrong, but I realize i now have to take his damn controller to get a quick kill before a game ends..

343 industries better not suck this much.

They had it based on movement in Halo 3, so people just put a rubber band on their controller and could boost. Nobody has come up with a median yet, so there's nothing to be done.

As for your temb ban. It's a Temp. Credit ban, you can still play the game without earning credits. Have fun playing the game with your friend, don't create an awkward situation where he wonders why you're so pissed off about a game.

I would go to 343i forums to dispute the ban if you feel its unfair, since bungie cant do anything about this ban. I wish you luck to get this straighten out, but you can still play reach just not get credits from games you play.

Well I thank you guys for the support and explanation of this situation.

I know not earning credits isn't truly a big deal (though i don't know how long it will last). It is more of what this means that made me angry. I just feel that punishing bad players is a fatal flaw for a company that makes games.

Also: How about it detects shooting and movement both?

One more thing: I looked at the game you posted, and yes, that was a game that he got no kills. It was SWAT after all, not easy for new players.

Why not play Campaign or Firefight? That's how my girlfriend started out, and how she learned the game.

A mix of damage dealt, distance moved and registered weapon pick ups would be a good way to detect afking or true playing.

Then again, since no one has come up with a working system, there might not be a solution for this game.

Multiplayer is much more enjoyable for me and my friend. I recently played through the campaign, so I didn't particularly want to do that again.

Again, I understand other options were available, but that doesn't retract from how this situation came about

EDIT: I guess it is just disappointing that the system failed like this. I wonder how often this happens.. I still feel that they could make a better system. As for gun pickups, this was SWAT so that wouldn't have helped. Shots fired, damage, and movement should be sure signs of a real player

Nope, no betrayals, suicides, or anything unsportsmanlike. Just downright bad playing haha.

Thank you for understanding!

Yeah I am pretty sure it is because of how bad he did. Since he didn't get a kill two or three games in a row, it thought he was AFK.

Unfortunately didn't hit the credit limit today lol

if your guest was moving around bungies ban hammer can detect that, and it isn't called afking since you can't play halo reach on the xbox with a keyboard, it would be called idling.

bungie's ban hammer can detect when a player is not moving or even just moving the analog sticks while staying stationary.

Then how do you explain how this came about? He was not idling (if you prefer to call it that..)

The 343 forums suck. They're full of retarded kids and mods who got butthurt in the B.net forums for being told that they're bad.

Why is it that people always play online with people that don't know how to play? That's what the other game modes are for: learning how to play so you aren't -blam!- clueless when you play other people.

And why is it that so many of these scenarios are of people playing SWAT with friends that don't know how to play? SWAT is one of the WORST places to start off.

Was he even trying? Or was he just shooting all the time in circles and getting purposely killed? Sorry though =[
