Well, today I finally got round to giving Halo 2 SLASO an attempt. I chose Outskirts thinking It would be more tolerable compared to other levels. I was wrong.

Halo 2 SLASO is every bit as challenging as I imagined it would be, even on what I assumed to be a relatively easy level (You can see my failed attempts here)

I tried this 7 times and made it to the tunnel area when I finally decided to call it quits for today and try tomorrow. My goal is to complete the levels without dying.

If anyone has advice or tips, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thankyou.

What skulls do you have running? All of them or a partial list?

I do partial skull runs, I have everything but assassins, blind, famine and black eye running right now, and it is brutal

The whole set :/ From the joys of Sputnik, to the random IWHBYD effects, every single skull is on.

More difficult than I anticipated...

Don't shy away from writing about it, it's a unique experience. To have the honor of being slaughtered pumps misery into your veins (not to mention the adrenalin rush).

When I did OS the second time I picked up the Ghost. The first time took forever to race by everything, like a million deaths. Second time I ran until the first group inside the tunnel. I stayed back, sniped and used the Ghost from a distance and was able to kill. I had a hard time where the Shadows stop and the ending and I switched back to speeding through for the finnish.

Indeed.

Imo a better starting level would be Cairo Station because it allows you to soak your feet in cqc, which is essential to SLASO. You only need to play up to the first hangar, but if you can make it to the second hangar, splendid!

You might also want to consider The Oracle. By skipping the elevator like I did, the rest (except for the boss fight) is pretty easy if you take your time. And again, cqc.

But stay away from these unless you're primarily a speedrunner:

Uprising, Metropolis, OS

There's a huge number of randomness on these levels, especially Uprising, which has 2 inconsistent spawns.

I may have to try that. The only CQC tactics I use at the moment is the sword to try to entice the Elites to get their swords out (free assassination) or by using melee on them which most of the time turns the Covie's around for an assassination.

As for OS, I've got a plan for getting to the highway tunnel which works most of the time so far. I use the marines at the beginning of the hallway to the 2nd area of the map as health regen and I also brought Johnsons sniper to deal with Jackal snipers and Grunts on turrets. When I make it to the tunnel, I'm lost for plans unfortunately :/

Don't forget about Envy.

CQC is a whole new level of awesomeness in H2. Very variable.

Alright, here's my attempt, 14/15 skulls with Blind off.

To the tunnel
Through the tunnel - I didn't include the rest of the footage because you can speedrun at some point. Just snipe all the turret operators before driving forward.

For the Shadows, shoot them from long range but for the moving ones, you have the option to pursue and shoot while keeping your distance or "attaching" your Ghost to the Shadow and shooting.

Same as LASO but it stands for Solo Legendary All Skulls On I think.

ME2 was known for stupidity and being retarded

Nobody...not one person has completed the entire game SLASO. It's -blam!- impossible. Even Outskirts, by doing the vacation thing.

Not quite true, there are two different SLASO's. One is completing it segmented (you can die) and the other is single segment (no death).

Mr Monopoli completed the SLASO segmented run and got almost halfway through SLASO single segments.

How's his progress on CS? Did he give up or is he still considering it?

He's considering suicide rather than attempting it again.

Actually the problem is motivation, hardly anyone watched his vids on it. I think if he had more support he would try it.

So he has motivation problems too (I retired because of that)? What if he posts here? The H2 Forum is such a welcoming place.

It's the challenge that's the thrill of trying, at least to me.

I haven't attempted Cairo, only Outskirts although I'm having some weird Hard Drive issue's which is preventing me from uploading my recent attempts. I'm trying to get this sorted soon as possible.

Cairo is a stone cold -blam!-, and I only have sputnik, envy, catch, cowbell, grnt bdparty, famine, mythic, ghost and thunderstorm running. If memory serves that still leaves me BE, Assassins and Blind short of a true SLASO run. I have been able to get a set of strategies that work out (as long as I have patience).

I have tried CS with Black Eye and Assassins and half of the above skulls as well.

Cairo is just plain mean, evil, bad tempered, and masochistic, which is why I love it with these skull combos.
