Here is a side by side comparison of the MC's armor from
Halo 2 and Halo3: http://putfile.com/pic.php?pic=5/13501574564.jpg&s=f5

Ignoring the battle scars, increased detail and dirt,
here are theDifferences:

1. More detailed bicep guard - May just be the graphical upgrade.
2. New outer hand guard - No doubt about it. (see FAQ)
3. More detailed front of thigh guard - Just the graphical upgrade?
4. New Top front of boot - I reckon his got new bootsies.

What do you think?

I can update the image to add remove differences.

May the Great Journey await you, may your enemies writhe in hell, and your line continue forward, and gain honor. May your scattered body go beyond the limits of your mind... Beyond the limits of our worlds, to the places our ancestors dream and sang of, and the Prophets speak of.

I think they strengthened his Armors' Shields, and increased the Motion Censor Range. Plus all the new upgrades are a Different color. They look new.

It looks like he walked through a Swamp...

Open your eyes
Open your mouths
Close your hands and make a fist!

maybe when he got back to earth he got a quick upgrade before he goes back into battle?

How could he have got a "quick upgrade" if his armor is so battle worn already? Have you guys seen his legs it looks like hes been in acid or something. Maby he did get new armor upgrades but it looks bad.

It is possible to upgrade only parts of the MJOLNIR armor. It's in First Strike. Dr. Halsey simply integrated some of the parts of the new Mark V with the old Mark IV that the SPARTANs already had on. Probably what happened here with the Chief. Of course in order for this to happen, Dr. Halsey has to come back with upgraded armor for him so of course that means that's probably out of the picture. *shrug* I dunno. So many possiblities....

I'm astonished at how much better the new armour looks, i barely noticed in the trailer, but seeing them side-by-side is amazing.

WOW! I still remember when I was admiring the graphics on the Chief in Halo 2. But this new Halo 3 sht is amazingly better. What's next? But yeah, there are probably going to be a few improvements in John's armor, but I don't believe they will be too major, just a little thing here and there.

Oh yeah, the color of his armor looks sweet too. My opinion, this desert color looks a lot better than the green. They should make the desert color the norm.

Both the books and the games were made according to the Halo Bible. If more books are made, I'm sure a lot of things will become much clearer to everyone who reads them.

Maybe bungie just wanted to use the 360s graphics more and just overall better looking armor, and there isn't any story based change

Edit: i want to see a picture of all 3 masterchiefs standing next to each other. i guess i can go make it.

I personally believe that he does get parts upgraded on his armor. As for Dr. Halsey not being there. Possibly the other Spartans picked up on how to do it when they got their upgrades(they are intillecually inhanced). I don't know. Perhaps someone on Earth knows how the armor works and they can do the upgrades. There are just way too many possiblities.

As long as the engineers have the part developed, the Spartans all know how to replace the parts of their armor. Since they are often separated from the scientists of the UNSC for extended periods of time, it would be vital for them to know how to repair their armor with spare parts.

The Chief did just walk through a desert in the announcement video... you think that would have some kind of impact on his appearance (i.e he wore a sandy-color armour for camoflauge/had it painted over, or else it is showing wear and tear from all the blowing sand).

I like this armor better than the last.

I agree, the magic insta-heal health packs are kind of...unrealistic, in the best sense of the word!

It could be possible for a compromise of sorts, if say, the damage done to the Chief was both real-time and permanent. So for example, you get a plasma score to your leg when your shields are down. The wound will stay open (but can the leg can always be re-shielded), until the Chief can reach a medical station (or else get help from a medic), and apply that crazy medical foam.

Kinda like a mix of the health system from Metal Gear Solid 3, combined with the recharging shield of Halo 2.
