I searched the sticky and the last 5 pages and couldn't find this topic anywhere. If it does exist just link me to it.

Please have Cortana's lines pronounced so that I don't see 36 threads about it.

"I have defied gods and demons."

"I am your shield, I am your SWORD."

"I know you, your past, your future."

"This is the way the world ends."

But there's obviously something terribly wrong

Anyone have an idea on what is terribly wrong?

May the Great Journey await you, may your enemies writhe in hell, and your line continue forward, and gain honor. May your scattered body go beyond the limits of your mind... Beyond the limits of our worlds, to the places our ancestors dream and sang of, and the Prophets speak of.

Maybe, maybe not.

So give us the link to the largest one. Like I said, I couldn't find any either in the sticky or the last 5 pages.

wait are you talking about this "problem", or the topic of what cortana says in the trailer, and what it means?

1. Being a computer, it is unlikely that Cortana would refer to any being as a "god" or a "demon". (If she refers to someone as such in one of the games/books, please correct me).

2. While she is inside the Master Chief's armor, she is able to amplify his movements, allowing him to evade damage easier (shield), and to be more precise with any weapon he is using (sword).

3. She knows the Master Chief, as well as his past. His future, however, is harder to define, so I will do so a bit later.

4. She says this before the trailer shows the artifact opening up and "firing", so it could be a reference to that. However, I have another idea.

"I know you, your past, your future."
There is only two ways to know someone's future: either Fate is the overlying principle in the Halo universe, or she is talking about the Master Chief's death. I can't prove nor disprove anything about Fate, so I'm not even going to bother with that. The death part, though, is a little easier.

If, as some people thoerize, Cortana has gone rampant, is corrupted, has allied with Gravemind against humanity, or whatever, then she might be planning to kill the Master Chief. If she has some failproof way of killing him (i.e. overloading his suit's fusion core remotely) then she would, technically, know that he will die (and not a natural death from aging). Another possibility is that she knows of some other failproof plot to kill the Master Chief, and she can't stop it (in the instance that she is NOT rampant/corrupted/evil)

This can tie into her next line: she might know that the Master Chief dies in some fashion, and if he does die, then the world's only hope of survival will be gone. Instead of being split into two pieces due to a bad transmission, you can look at it like this: "I know you, your past, your future: this is the way the world ends."

The way Frankie wrote out the lines correspond to the way they are said in the trailer's transmission. However, that doesn't mean that is the way they were originally said.

I think what Frankie is trying to say, is that Cortana isn't acting or speaking like an AI would.

Dude, there is no clue. It's just there have been so many topics arguing whether she says "sword" or "source" or maybe both, overlapped. And so many people have been trying to find the meaning of that. So Bungie just wanted to make sure people didn't argue about that any more. They wanted to clarify that cortana says "SWORD" while the "ssss" sound in the back is just distortion. To add to the drama and to remind people that Cortana is no longer with John.
GEEZ, that dude who wrote all that crap, you wasted your time.

I think it's fairly obvious that I was talking about this "problem".

So... you wan't to answer my question mate? What is Frankie talking about that is terribly wrong?

That can't be it. The answer's to simple. Bungie never makes it easy.

If you don't like what someone wrote, don't bother replying. Simple as that.

I don't consider 5 minutes to type out that little bit anything of a waste.

Edit: Eva, I just listed what might be wrong in my last post. Specifically, either Cortana's first line, or a combination of the 3rd and 4th lines.

You're right. Bungie never makes it simple. Which is why they'd make it so simple.

And remember: Jonrap asks,
My wife didn't recognize Cortana when she watched the announcement. I thought Cortana looked exactly the same. But my wife is smarter than me. So, I better ask.

Is Cortana any different? She seems somehow different. My wife didn't recognize Cortana when she watched the announcement. I thought Cortana looked exactly the same. But my wife is smarter than me. So, I better ask.

Women know things John. I don't know how they do, they just do.

I doesn't matter whether I like it or not. I read it through and thought it was reasonable, better than some theories on this forum. My point is that it is irrelevant to the question I am asking. I wan't to know what Frankie meant by "But there's obviously something terribly wrong…" Your post doesn't answer that. I don't care what Cortana meant by her message. There are a million threads on that.

My "if you don't like it" statement was to MrBubble, not you ~_^;

And the answer you're looking for is IN the meaning of her message. Something she said leads to whatever is wrong. Therefore, if she said something completely out of context, then it could hint at what is wrong. An example would be the first line, which could mean she has turned against the Master Chief and humanity - I would consider this something that is terribly wrong

Umm Eva Braun or whatever, I think he was talking to me when he said "If you don't like what someone wrote, don't bother replying. Simple as that", as he replied to my post with the subject I created; "NO CLUE".

And I replied because I don't like people not knowing the truth about halo. Even if it's little misunderstandings like this sword and source thing.

Yes, that would be terribly wrong, but it is far from obvious.

That doesn't make any sense. If they wanted to stop the confusion all they have to do is post the real words in the update, and lock all the threads continuing to ignore it. There is no reason to add that mystical line down the bottom. I have no doubt he was trying to hint at something.
