Hey, I just wanted to throw somthing else out there.
When cortana says "I have defied Gods and Demons", she says it plural...
Now we all know that the elites call MC a demon, but when I hear DemonS, i think multiple spartans. ie, Linda, Kelly....and who else... i forget..... possibly Sam?

Well well! This is an interesting point you've brought up here. Also Sam, I hate to say , died in Fall of Reach I believe. Though there are more well informed people you could ask for the complete list of SPARTANs that are MIA (both MIA and KIA. they list KIA'd Spartans as MIA), wounded, or on active duty.

you're naut cookin'

Not to mention she says Gods, plural also. We know that Halo has a lot of Biblical referrences, but theres only a singular God in Christianity, so yeh.

Ponder my children, ponder.

By Gods I think that it might be referancing the Forerunners....but that doesn't make sense....why would Cortana call the Forerunners gods? Unless she was trying to get the message to the Covenant and not Chief? Again, hey, I dunno...guess we'll find it out in a year or so eh?

Now Gods, possibly a reference to:

A.) Prophets.... seems to be the only that fits since its plural.... Two prophets left right?

B.) Dr.Hayle.... gods refering to the fact that Dr.Hayle created cortana.. again, plural messes it all up

Idk, what u guys think?

I highly doubt Cortana would call the prophets "gods", in any sense of the word, whether there was 1 left (only Truth), or 10,000.

Dr. Halsey didn't "create" Cortana. Her brain was flash-cloned, and then used in the AI-creation process, which destroys the living tissue of hte brain and copies the neural pathways into some form of computer code.

ok... so then who would cortana call a god? I mean, common, no one really controls her. Again, plural is bothering the hell out of me. I think forerunners is a good guess, however, why would she call them gods? - let me restate it, how has she defied them?

The Theory that Gravemind is mixed in with the words. Gravemind may be refering to whomever Gravemind has defied.

Gods refer to the Forerunners, and the Monitors.... She stoped the Halo activation agianst forerunner protocol...

Here's a thoery (with no proof whatsoever to back it up):

If Cortana somehow merged with Gravemind, then it is possible that the 7-year lifespan limit "smart" AI's have could have been lifted - a lot of her consiousness became one with Gravemind, allowing for a whole bunch more neural pathways for information to reside in. This, in effect, would be a mind-shattering occurrance, and she starts going a little crazy.

She says she has defied gods, because she overcame the 7-year lifespan of her "race" - if a human suddenly was able to live for 300 years, that person might believe they have defied whatever god(s) they believed in.

She says she has defied demons, because she has started to go a bit insane, and thinks of her old friends as people who held her back.

Ok, thats great and all, but doesnt the fact that she says DemonS.... Plural, suggest that there is more than one Spartan left? More than one spartan she is defieing right now?

Look at the statement according to the Covenant's religion. "I have defied Gods (ie forerunners) and Demons (primarily Chief, but also anyone who hinders the Great Journey)."

Maybe this message isn't about Cortana's own craziness, but rather her sending a transmission of what Gravemind is telling her, which would explain it double-talking her in the background.

1 prophet left... unless you consider being part of the Gravemind some kind of existance...

Demons are a manifest of evil. You can look at it as the MC being a Demon or the Covies, or even the Flood. Or maybe all three. Or maybe she see's herself in a duality role with the Chief. If he is called a Demon, then she is also a Demon. And I apoligize for bringing up relegion here. But if you look at God in the sense of the Trinity, three aspects of the same person, then we could assume the "Gods" she speaks of are Forerunner, Gravemind, and her creators. Or herself. The question being. Why didn't she blow up High Charity like she did Alpha Halo 01? That could be considered "defy-ing".
