The ark of the covenant was a box that contained the ten commandments. It was not to be touched. There is an account in the Bible where the men carrying the ark nearly dropped it and a man reached out his hand to stop it from falling and died as soon as his fingers made contact with it. This action was pure in heart but there was still no mercy for this man.

When the ark was not being transported it stayed in the temple. The ark was inside of a room inside of the temple. This room was called the Holy of Holies. The high priest (and only the high priest) was allowed to enter the Holy of Holies once a year and only once a year. If he did not cleanse himself or if God was displeased with him, he would die upon entering the room. He wore bells on his garments so that the other priests could hear if he fell dead. A rope was tied to his ankle before he entered the Holy of Holies so that if he died while he was inside the other priests could pull him out.

I have not seen of heard of this display of power on Earth in Halo. If Earth was the ark of the covenant then Earth could not support life because the ark of the covenant cannot be tainted by impurities... and no life is pure.

The only possibility I can think of is that the structure that is opening is the Holy of Holies and Truth thinks that he is a high priest... perhaps the ark of the covenant is inside of the huge forrunner structure.

Hmmmm... How exactly have you come to the conclusion that Earth, all of Earth, is the Ark?

It would seem that you are saying:

"This speculation is wrong and crap 'cos my speculation says it can't work"

Now obviously, Earth is not a very big boat, so does that mean that the Ark is Noah's Ark theory is wrong? No.

The similarities that people draw is in the functions of these Arks. Noah's Ark saved mankind and a lot of other animals from The Flood. The Ark of the Covenant spells death for those who do not understand what it trully is, kind of in the way that it is likely to wipe out the Covenant.

Ark of the Covenant Vs Noah's Ark?

Why do they need to be mutually exclusive?

(In this post I am guessing that your reason behind the attack on the Ark of the Covenant theory is because you think that Noah's Ark is the correct theory, If this is not the case then my first criticism still stands)

*wisper wisper* I think he's actually condoning the Ark of the Cov. theory... not attacking it.

So how about the fact that the Ark of the Covenant is not a weapon. Israel thought that the Ark was something that could be used as a powerful weapon in battle, but when they tried to use it in that way they were brutally slaughtered by the Philistines and the Ark was stolen from them. The Ark is a way for God to reside with His people... it is not a weapon.

I thought at the end of halo 2 all the rings went on standby and that the only way to acticate all of em was the ark wich after that the cutscene showed the giant covenant -blam!- near earth.. so the ark must be on earth so the covonant are trying to get to it and activate the rings.

P.S. HALO 3 OFFICIALLY ROCKS MY SOCKS!

For crying out loud. They are not reffering to the ACTUAL ark. Ark is a name for a machine and all evidence poits to the fact that what we saw in the trailer was in fact the ark and that it was on Earth (including people from Bungie saying it was earth). Just because its called the Ark does not make it the Ark of the covenant or Noahs ark. There is a bit of symbolism but it doesent go THAT deep! To use the term "Ark/Arc" Bungie doesent have to read the entire bible. Its easy to see where the symbolism lies: Noahs Ark saved humanity and all life on earth from the flood. The Ark of the covenant was a mysterious force not to be tampered with.

Thank you. I don't believe that people should take these theories as stating that it's the actually object(Ark of the Covenant, Noah's Ark)...it's just a reference to what this machine could actually do. They are as said, REFERENCES.

Now I don't know the connection between Noah's Ark and the Ark of the Covenant, but the object is nearly certainly the Ark-on the Halo 2 Collectors Edition (I'm sorry I don't have the link) it clearly shows a sketch of that structure, right up to the blue light, and it is labelled "The Ark".

I don't have any real idea of what exactly it is, however if you pay attention im sure in HALO 2 the ARC was used to protect some of the FORRUNERS, similily to NOAHS Arc, in the books aswell there certainly are suggestions of sub-memories in humans expecially the spartans to forunner tech and scripture. Emphasis being that things from the past get over epmhasised into religious decroration, or mystical distortions, words get passed on, and lose meaning.

COuld be an explanation

What the -blam!- are you babbling about? Haven't you seen the trailer. The big structure that lies in the ground in the middlle of a desert..that's the Ark!! Isn't that obvious..

It's a place where is possible to activate all the halo rings.

So your saying for Bungie's Sci-Fi story, they can't use any influences from any other texts?

What if in the Halo Universe the Story of Noah (in both the Bible and Babalonian texts), was actually derived from the Forerunners Ark that saved Humanity from the Flood. Then through a hundred thousand years of telling the story it came to be the one we know.

I'd die to become immortal,
That's why I play Halo Reach

hmm, your theory is an interesting one. maybe the ark is, indeed, some sort of object.

i remember reading, in Halo First Strike, about this object that was like a crystal that could distort time and space. i can't clearly recall details, but i'm pretty sure that a marine died because of it. in slipspace (i think) the crystal would become extremely radioactive and would kill most anything it came into contact with. before jumping into slipspace, the marine destroyed the crystal, but shards of it still remained. then, at the end of the book, Tartarus hand Truth the shards of the crystal and truth sayd something but i can't remember what.

anyway, moral of the story is that maybe the "ark" of the covenant was the Crystal, because the Covenant seemed pretty blookd keen to get their paws on it in the book.

well, that's my two cents
