Subject: Am I the only one who prefers slower kill times?

Hi.

As opposed to CoD, Reach's [default] kill times are good, but when compared to Halo 3 I find them way too drawn out.

Maybe it's because I suck.

I hope nobody brings this up in an argument. You can suck at CoD and prefer fast kill times just as you can suck at Halo and prefer slow kill times.

I like intense battles, and to me intense comes from the longer encounters. I don't necessarily want to be shooting someone for 5+ seconds, but at the same time I don't want to kill him in 1 second unless I have a power weapon or he's wounded.

The appeal of Halo to me has always been out-maneuvering and out-gunning your opponent in encounters.

Ironically, neither of those are very outlined in Reach's gameplay, despite its long kill times. Kill times aren't everything.

That's very true.

I'm remaining optimistic for H4 simply because we're Chief again. The whole 'canon excuse' for why we're slower in Reach will no longer apply.

Ur bad kid.

Halo CE kill times ftw.

Short kill times have always been pretty stupid imo. You literally have no time to strafe or move around when someone is shooting at you. You just die.

Nope. I have Battlefield 3 and play it regularly. Good game, but after a while, I want to actually have a shoot out with somebody that I can only do in Halo. On Halo, it's not just a "Saw you first so you're dead" thing. If ambushed in Halo, you can actually escape, quickly find cover, recover your shields, and then have a good chance of getting back into the fight and getting out alive. In Battlefield 3, you get ambushed, you get hit with 3-4 shots, and it's over. It seems to take more skill to outmatch your opponent in Halo because of that.

Name's John. I'm a 21-year-old firefighter/EMT from lolhio who doubles as a die-hard Halo fan. I've been enjoying the franchise since 2001. My favorite iteration of Halo would have to be Halo 2 simply because I never got to experience the joy of a full-on Halo: CE LAN.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Oh yeah, and boot Zome.

I agree, so long as we are discussing kill times in terms of Reach as opposed to CoD. Halo has a nice pace for kill times generally.

I think there is a good balance in H3. Reach doesn't have very much longer kill times, but people can get away much easier.

It gets my heart pumping, IMO. Halo doesn't need fast kill times, it needs realistic I'll times that make sense. Why a DMR takes 5-7 shots to kill is beyond me. Why a 3SK magnum is wanted by so many also baffles me. Halo Reach needs halo 3s perfect weapon sandbox.

I don't enjoy fast kill times either. I believe longer (even if by a second) kill times allow the person who gets jumped on a chance. If the better player is snuck up upon, then by their skill they still have a chance to get out of the situation by out shooting their sneaky opponent. It's one of the majopr reasons why I prefer Halo over Call of Duty.

What did I just read? Halo 3's sandbox was awful. A huge overabundance of automatic, dual wielding weapons, crappy utility weapon, ridiculously strong/easy to use power weapons like the Laser, and a ton of redundancy. That doesn't strike me as a great sandbox.

Calling Halo 3's power weapons ridiculously strong and easy to use? Have you played Reach?

The BR was an amazing utility weapon! And who actually used automatic weapons? I dropped them for something with precision ASAP. The laser was fitting in Halo 3. Vehicles weren't made out of paper mache and glue.

chances are I don't care who you are or what you say.

slower than CoD kill times are fine, but if a kill time is so slow it can just be boring.

I think Halo (yes even reach) has all that down fine <3

It's better than overpowered precision weapons, random and inaccurate precision weapons, overpowered vehicles and power weapons, retarded power weapons that don't do anything, and vehicles that explode from way too much don't fire. Halo 3 got it right with equipment, vehicles grenades, and precision weapons. And duel wields had their place, like the plasma pistol/rifle and magnum. Also halo 3s grenades were perfect. The maps were memorable and enjoyable, where as Reachs are memorable in a bad way. Boardwalk gives me shudders, Sword what? Crapyard, and Mountain in the middle are all horrible maps that leave me with bad after tastes.

Reach has sub par everything. The only thing reach excels in is Forging features and DLC content, and then armor abilities.

Kill times in MLG are fast.
And it's much easier to kill somebody across the map than in Halo 3.
Even if the opponent has full shields.

MLG is sort of Halo 3.5. And I like it.
