I don't know whether this has been posted, or not but lots of people keep questioning what Gravemind is and when earth is captured during the game bungie has posted this summary:

Halo 3 is the third game in the Halo Trilogy and will provide the thrilling conclusion to the events begun in Halo: Combat Evolved. Halo 3 was first revealed at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles on May 6th, 2006. Halo 3 will be available for Xbox 360 in 2007.

Halo 3 will pick up where Halo 2 left off. The Master Chief is returning to Earth to finish the fight. The Covenant occupation of Earth has uncovered a massive and ancient object beneath the African sands - an object who's secrets have yet to be revealed. Earth's forces are battered and beaten.

The Master Chief's AI companion Cortana is still trapped in the clutches of the Gravemind - a horrifying Flood intelligence, and a civil war is raging in the heart of the Covenant. This is how the world ends...

"flood intelligence", sounds cool guess i never worked out if he was good or evil, guess evil then

Also 343 was just going to reveal the location of the Ark to the Arbiter, Com. Miranda Keyes and Sergeant Johnson, the Ark is where all the Halo's will be remote activated.

Good or evil are illusions, points of view, etc etc. Gravemind never seemed either cause he basicly kept to his own agenda, he seemed "Good" because he sent Arbiter and Chief to stop them activating the Halos. He did tat cause it would kill him and his species off, not to save everything. Keep in mind he took over High Charity and captured Cortana however.

Ah well, draw your own conclusions

accepted no evil is the buzz words idiots like Bush use to raise up the zealots but generally being part of a species that spends its life searching for life to take it over, and remove its life so it can feed, and nothing else doesnt seem good, i mean if they could give something back nice like a millenium dome, or a prefab room with flower pattens stamped on by homemade foam stamps
