Subject: Why was Bloom Invented?

Still better than you.

because people think that pacing is supposed to beat spam in a CQC scenario...
People thought that, because it was. The whole point was to punish spamming and reward keeping a calm head and steady aim. If the reticule is filling up the screen and making every shot hit, then that takes no skill, and ruins the idea. What should have happened is that the reticule remained the same size, but the spread on the weapon increased, and we probably didn't need hitscna either.

Because, you know, hitscan+a giant reticule is like giving free wins to people in CQC.

The problem is not competitive vs casual, it's that bloom was implemented really poorly, didn't act like it should, and generally sucks as a game mechanic.

Halo: Reach is the beginning of a new age for gaming.
It proves that developers can get away with punishing their players instead of fixing their game....and yet the fanboys will still sing praises to them.

-blam!- all of you fanboys!

And you know what it really comes down to...

You people would -blam!- till the end of days about bloom, until they put bloom at the exact pace that fits for YOU...

Hey I think it should be this accurate at this pace.

No I think it should be this accurate at this pace..

AND SO ON.
AND SO ON....

BUT, if the opponent your shooting at still fills up 85% of the reticule at full bloom....what's the problem?
....

Only an idiot would pace in a situation that didn't call for pacing.

Which is exactly what this is all about. People thinking that the game should cater to their specific preference of how fast "THEY" think people should be allowed to shoot a weapon and get hits.

Lame excuses about being superhuman and eliminating all recoil aside.

I want all these people who -blam!- about bloom, to go out and actually shoot a weapon for once in their life.
And when you finally come to the conclusion that weapons do not fire bullets straight out of the barrel every time...I want you to turn that gun on yourself and rid us of your opinions.

The problem is that it's rewarding spamming, and creating a situation that doesn't benefit the pacer. YOU KNOW, EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT BLOOM WAS INTENDED TO DO?

MR E0S, you need to understand, we complain about bloom, not because it doesn't get us kills or something (most "competitive" players abuse the living daylights out of it), it's because it's a bad mechanic that more or less takes the game from being a fair playing field to a completely onesided one.

Ok, so in a CQC scenario in which I can spam the trigger and the opponent still fills up 85% of the inner part of the circle. You think I should be pacing...and if I don't pace, I should lose that battle??

Are you for real?

The only idiot who should lose that battle is the guy that thinks he should be pacing in that scenario....duh!

It's a CQC scenario, if I spam and get twice as many bullets to hit you in that same amount of time it takes you to pace half the bullets in my direction...why are you crying about that?

The problem is dumbasses thinking that pacing should beat out spam in EVERY SCENARIO.

QUANTITY BEATS QUALITY IN ALMOST EVERY INSTANCE EVER.. IN LIFE! AND VIDEO GAMES!

Why are Hispanics taking over the southwest?
Because they have more children.
Not because their children are smarter.
It's because they breed like -blam!- rabbits.

1.- learn what the quote button is please. It makes conversations like this easier.

2.- Spamming in CQC is fine. It isn't fine with bloom however, because by spamming you get a ridiculous extra advantage, due to the increased reticule size. Also, spamming in CQC is still stupid, because against anybody with a decent strafe, you'll get destroyed. Unless your playing with bloom of course, in which case you'll win without having to aim at all.

3.- Pacing really should beat spamming. Calling people names isn't nice either.

4.- I didn't understand that last capitalised part. Last time I checked, quality beats quantity in most situations.

Yes it does make it one-sided... in benefit of the people who are crying the most about it. Which makes no -blam!- sense whatsoever.

WWII
Axis of Evil = Quality
Who lost?

Was it America with all the cannon fodder it threw at the beaches?

We won simply because of the fact that....

Quantity > Quality.

Spam Beats pacing. Why? Because if a bullet hits, it hits. Just cause you pace your shots doesn't automatically make your shots more powerful.

And that's where I think the problem really is, somewhere in your twisted logic you honestly think that the smaller the reticule is, the more damage the bullet is supposed to do....Right? WRONG!

That spammer even at wide open still has you filling up 85% of the reticule and he is spitting out 2-3 bullets for every 1 bullet you spit out. YOU SHOULD LOSE! for trying to pace.

OR we can continue down the path of -blam!-ing about how bloom, needs to be this accurate at this distance...
This accruate at this pacing and distance...
and so on.

which ...

I can think of a million different ways that we can make bloom if we start thinking about the millions of different opinions on what people personally think it should act like.

Bungie made it their way, and you couldn't adapt to it.

So you -blam!-ed and cried to have them remove it instead.... good job. Way to adapt.

Whatever you do, don't join the army. Because you'll be in for a big surprise when that terrorist goes spraying with his AK and gets a lucky headshot on you before you could ..take your sweet little time to make every shot of yours count.

Why do we even bother making machine guns?

You see how many bullets that Gatling gun shoots out? You ever see how accurate it is? Try facing it down with your bolt action rifle.

Unless your firing from a position of hiding...You're going to lose.

I can bring up even more non-military examples of Quantity > Quality. But I'll let you figure it out for yourself.

Also, nevermind the fact that bloom actually plays such a minor role in battle...

When you consider teammates, shields, Armor Abilities, grenades, other weapons besides the DMR, Vehicles, Tactics.

But the entire success of this game all rode on 1 weapon with bloom....

Get real people.

OH and, btw, learn to hold a discussion without quoting.
I don't need to keep re-reading what I just wrote. If people can't figure out who or what I am responding too. Too -blam!- bad.

Posted by: MR E0S...erm.

Obviously I am going to spam at ranges where it is more effective. But bloom still makes my shots random, at least to a certain extent. So in a CQC situation where both of us are spamming, I could win based on a bullet luckily hitting them in the head when it probably shouldn't have. And I can also lose to this randomness. I don't like losing because of randomness.

Since they took it out in the TU why was it invented anyways? If I get the drop on someone I want them dead in however long it takes me to land 5 shots, not a set time of at least 2 seconds with bloom.

bloom exists in real life, it wasn't invented, if you constantly fire a gun you're not going to hit what you want in every shot, you have to keep it as steady as possible in order to achieve your hit, works the same way as Reach's bloom system

Bungie had a powertrip after the release of H3
they were feeling spunky when they made Reach
they were saying they wanted to be 'different'

so bloom was born

Yep. The idiot decided CoD would fit best into a Halo sandbox.
