First of all, I know a lot of people will disagree with me, or flame me, so to make yourself look like you passed english class, try to do it in a civilized way. Or just put, "ur idea suxxorz, n00b !" Either way:
I think playing as a third character would absolutly suck. Why? Think randomly: You're playing as a grunt. You are happy running around with your plasma rifle {the best weapen weildable} and you see a spartan 10 yards away with a BR. In about 1 second if he's looking at you, dead.
Grunts shouldn't have energy sheilds, shouldn't be able to hold any big guns {non-duelweildable or human at all. With exception of fuel rod cannon} and simply shouldn't be put into multiplayer. Think how unbalenced it would be: Grunts would literally have to look to the top of your screen to get a head shot, and regular Spartans/Elites would have to look down. Unbalenced.
You shouldn't be able to play as a grunt in campaign for two reasons:
1. Wouldn't be very fun. Barely any weapens you can hold, no sheilds, and no squad commands. Which brings me to my next point.
2. This is Halo, not Battlefront or Battlefield or any game where there is tactics and squad commands. Halo's a run and gun game, but obviously it can be much more.
The grunt thing was just an example, but any new character would probably be unbalenced. If there was another Spartan or Elite {along those lines} mabye it'd be okay to play as them. {Even though I wouldn't like it}
It should just be Master Cheif and the Arbiter. Playable, obviously. [I just contradicted myself]
Remember, it's mostly opinion, so post comments or flame.
