Any fellow players care to provide feedback on a custom map? I call it Long Way to Go. Created it with one flag CTF in mind. Game variant I setup called Fly or Die. Both are on my file share. While any feedback or suggestions would definitely be appreciated, what I would absolutely most appreciate is any help in actually getting my map played by 6v6, 7v7, 8v8. Walk through can be seen on YouTube here:

Thanks!

! Update: map has been updated to be more friendly to those not using jet packs. YouTube video updated as well.

And so God called Moses to come forth but he came fifth and was therefore disqualified.

Not sure... A lot of repeated peices with weird physics, and a bit simplistic... but like many maps, the gameplay is probably much much better.

Herp derp.

Looks simple. But simple does not mean bad. I'll have to play on it to truly form an opinion.

Yes sirs, it does appear simple at first glance. I think the sheer size of the map makes placed objects look sparce. But, if I did half as well as I think I did at designing routes and what I call contention points, I think it will be a great map to play. There are so many fantastic smaller maps, I wanted to create one where a couple of players could take a solid ten or more seconds to enjoy the beauty of the Forge layout on their way to pick up a flag and have to make decisions on whether to just enjoy a battle going on below them, or drop down out of the sky to lend a hand. I also wanted to put snipers to the test by giving them opportunity to cover the flag area, yet be subject to opposing snipers from what I think is a longer sheer distance than in any other map Ive seen.

Looks too simple, and I have always thought that only having one pathway to an objective, power weapon, or anything is not a good idea.

Actually, there are three ways to the target, as I see it. ..not just one. Yes, there is the highway that dumps you right on top of the flag if you want to Warthog from above, but one could also use the entire width of the map to approach via airspace using a Banshee or Falcon. The third option is approaching via Warthog or Revenant from the ground and jetpack/lift up to the flag. As with any single CTF scenario, the offense must momentarily control the flag area to be able to successfully extract it.

What if a player doesn'y have jetpack? I'm not being critical, but some questions need to be answered before you consider it good for MM.

If they don't have a jetpack, that still leaves them two of the three mentioned approach methods to choose from. I will certainly admit though that In setting up the map, utilizing the entire space of the map, providing motivation to the players to fly seemed only natural, hence the creation of my 'Fly or Die' varient. Case in point example... If a player had been in a sniping nest for a while that they had initially reached via vehicle and decided to descend, they would otherwise need to just jump down and respawn or walk down a lengthy staircase. Having a jetpack means they can jump all the way down, cushion their landing, and keep playing. And yes, Wumpa, I am very much looking for all constructive criticism, so thank you. I do hope you will participate in playing the map with a substantial number of players before writing off the map for your tastes though.

Are there any clans or groups known to just enjoy testing any and all newly available custom maps? If so, aside from having my map played, I'd love to participate playing others' maps as well.

Could maybe ask teams on btb.net to play some matches on it. No guarantees or anything though.

My impressions of this

1) You have a wonderful voice for commentating.

2) Looks pretty cool. Fights over long straights would be fun, especially in One Flag if you couldn't return the flag.

3) Y U MAKE JETPAK MANNDATOREE D:<

Apocalypse,
Thank you very much. I will check out those two sites asap.

AcidThe Wraith,
Thanks so much for the compliments.

I'll go ahead(since you are not the only one that made the suggestion) and modify it so that jetpacks are not absolutely required. There will still be, as in the above mentioned example, situations where having one will be advantageous.

I'll update this thread as soon as the map itself is updated.

I've updated the map design to be more friendly to those not using jet packs and updated the YouTube walk through video. Thanks for the feedback, guys!

one more question for the community regarding this first map creation of mine. Are there any additional guidelines or recommendations on large maps? I was advised not to put stickie grenades on vehicle-centric maps. any other suggestions?
