Firefight with one life against infinite enemies.

So

Much

Fun

!!!!!

It wasn't fun, it was deep

You must not have noticed, but every post I have made in this thread is about how not fun reach is and how much more fun the old Halos were.

YES!!! Finally! About time someone agreed!!!!!!!!

You must not have noticed how I disagree, and that that isn't even a factor here

For The Lulz is a worthier cause than For The Win.

From the skies to the ground, I'm the one that'll reign destruction down on you from behind the wheel and the flight stick. Keep your eyes on the rear view mirror, or you may be eating exhaust aside the road, riddled with holes.

My sniper is hungry for souls.

If at first you fail, fail again so that you succeed by wrapping your fail around the continuum into the win zone.

......Everyone does.

It's pretty much universally accepted that Reach could have been better. It's still a fantastic game, and it's still the most entertaining Halo, but it's not the "best" in terms of gameplay/balance/aesthetics/etc.

I say reach campaign wasn't fun. You say something about lone wolf. I say that wasn't fun. You say you weren't saying it was fun

WTF is going in here?

Considering Franky was "surprised at the overwhelming disappointment in the lack of Master Chief" I'd say you're a minority in this regard. :/

A majority of people also think a skydaddy made them and that the Northern hemisphere is "up".

Masterchief is awful; hope he does something nice with his character in Halo 4 and dies in Halo 6
But those aren't opinions. If the majority of your fanbase has an opinion, you should probably consider it, and the opinion probably means something.

MC has won several awards for best character, most epic character, etc. etc. I'm sorry you don't like him.

I think Reach's biggest campaign failure (besides the characters lack of real character)

They all had little to no character, but they were still infinitely more likable than John ever was. >.>
Nope.

Yup. Noble Six spoke less than twenty words the whole game, and even then I liked him more than John (and not just because he's, y'know, me.)

The Chief's too prototypical to be a good character. "Roar, look at me, I'm all cold and badass and -blam!-" isn't how a good character is made.

If that's the case, I could probably put a nametag onto a brick and win those awards too.

The Masterchief has awards because he's the Xbox mascot.

The creators of the character and even Steve Downes himself said that they didn't develop him so players could place themselves in his shoes.

He is literally a non-entity, and this type of character is lambasted in every other media on the planet

They made it damn clear that this was gonna be your last stand, and they pulled off the atmosphere amazingly well. The finishing cutscene is only slightly marred by Halsey's actress' over-the-top acting, and even then it's not that bad.

Lone Wolf was better than any of Halo 2's regurgitated excuses of levels, at any rate.

It has the best background music. It still sucks though.

Hmm. He came off as modest and good-intentioned, as well as noble and quick-minded to me.

The fans make MC out to be "badass" and I have no idea where you get "cold" from. It seems you dislike the fanbase of MC rather than MC himself.

Awful how? Cause he doesn't have a robot arm? or a skull on his mask? or sacrifice himself to save humanity? (not for lack of trying, he's done that several times but just refuses to die)

I mean, what do you want from a main character? Fenix from Gears? or Price from CoD? everyone seems to see them as the epitome of what a character should be. Price is cool and all, but he's not what a spartan would ever be like. Marcus on the other hand, he's just a brick with legs, he's got less character than Noble Team did.

Oh, isn't?

Nope.

The quality of the gameplay has no bearing on the emotional impact and quality of the story. Admittedly, if the game is nearly unplayable, then it gets stupid, but that's not even remotely true here.

He's a bad character because he doesn't have any development at all, barring the blatantly obvious connection with Cortana in Halo 3

^No character development in the games

This isn't only about gameplay! Theres a lot more to it then that. But yes it's an important factor.

So if they make a good enough story(even though the Reach story is crap)

Then that excuses how unfun the game is to play?

Now you're putting words in my mouth.

He lacks any real depth, or emotion. The fact that you never see his face is all well and good, but at least try to give him some characterization beyond "quiet, reserved, etc."

Hell, even going into what he likes and dislikes would make him much more enjoyable.

I wasn't talking about how fun reach is, I said it was the most emotional one.

And to a degree, yes; Mass Effect (1) has awful gameplay, but a great story which completely makes up for it.

That seems wrong to me. This is a first person Sci Fi shooter, not a space opera like Star Wars. Characters like the chief can't spend time crying over lost friends, or going through emotional crisis because no one would care, or believe it. He's a super soldier, what else do you want from him? Shedding some tears? Thinking of going rogue? That would ruin what he's supposed to be. He's not some "chosen one" picked by some being in the sky to save the universe, he's just the only guy around to get it done. Switch him out with almost any of the other spartan 2s and the result would have been similar, if not identical.

The problem is, that's not good enough. It shows the bare minimum of characterization. He's like a robot. We know about as much about him at the end of Halo 3 as we did at the start of Halo 1.
