While I do understand the demand to have her in as she is such a big role in the novels, i do not want to see her intergrated into the game.

It would be like taking Superman and sending him back home to talk to his mommy.

Seeing as the game is supposed to be about combat and war, I dont think she has a place in it...She seems too parent like in the books about the spartans and it would be a turn off to me in a game. I wouldnt want to have to listen to commands issued by her and such.

Also, John is supposed to be the last spartan, while the books say otherwise...i do not want the other spartans in the game either.

It takes away from the drama and storyline in the game to share the spotlight and slap a mother like figure on top of the most lethal killing machine in the universe.

i dont mean it in that sense. I just simply think that it would take away from the drama and overall experience of the game.

Things such as this would not occur in a movie, simply because it makes the character seem too weak and too bound to other people. This is not the persona of the chief. Trust me, I would highly doubt it if we were to see the characters, and I completely agree with why they shouldnt be there. The Chief since the begininng has walked alone. Why now would they ally him with his "mother" and his "brothers and sisters."

It just isnt a good writing element for a screenplay for a movie, and it wouldnt be for the game either.

Everyone has their right to an opinion as long as it doesn't break the rules on B.net.

Bungie can't please everyone, but everyone should be able to express their opinion. Not necessarily in 20,000,000 new, repetitive threads, but somewhere on here.

You know, now that I think of it, does it say anywhere, other than the books, that you're the last spartan?

the books have that "last SPARTAN" idea till about a third of the way into the third book, but then clearly give an explination to bring others back inthere were a lot of really dissapointed fans when they werent in the 2nd game and either way many will be dissapointed when Halo 3 is relesed, at least concerning the other spartans

yea i agree, and it would be a good way to tie all the stories together, and make more people want too buy the books.

While i agree with that, i takes away from the dark atmosphere and makes it anticlimactic...it just takes so much away from what the other games have reinforced.

"finish the fight..."
"This is the way the world ends"

Such lines establish drama and a certian atmosphere and stage the mind for something incredible. Words are very useful, and they send the story. From a writers point of view, i personally feel the addition of these characters would deride the story.

if they don't explain what happened to her and Kelly in Halo 3, the least they can do is explain it in the next book

Gamer Tag - Mjolnir Hero

He's the last spartan in Halo 1, After Halo 1 and before Halo 2 in the books is when he finds out that there are some other spartans still alive... notice in Halo 2 is isnt referred to as "the last spartan" I hope they do incorperate the books into the game this time...

It does in fact state that you are the last spartan in more then one place.

For example, look at the instruction booklet for Halo: Combat evolved.
Also look at song 12 i believe on the Halo 2 Cd, it is called "The Last Spartan"

In all honesty, even Bungie has stated the books are seperate from the games. While yes it adds more depth and story to the game...one must see if from the asspect of never having read the books. Its like taking a book and making it into the movie. Certian plot elements must be left out to establish the mood, setting, and overall apearance of the character. The other games have established the Master Chief as the last spartan. The last defence for earth. The one who will decend to save us all. To simply insert the other characters destroys all that work in the games.

This is why i think they should be left out so as to add more drama and impact on the mind with the game. It should be treated just like a movie.

Where's Opog when you need him???

The books AND games were written from the Halo Story Bible, which had the basic story all laid out from the beginning.

While that may be true, it has been said by the Bungie staff that the books and games are seperate from one another. One does not impact the other necessarily. While yes, they could, they also may not. It doesnt mean they wont reach the end all goal.

Well I agree they shouldn't put her in the game UNLESS they find a reasonable way to introduce her so that everybody understands without knowing the storylines of the books. But I don't think it would take away from the drama. After all, we don't know what type of role she would play.

True enough, but they would have to be exceptionally careful in her intergration as to not affect the mood of the story. Here is a thought...

Perhaps we should never see her. Afterall, she is old and with age comes a certian sign of weakness. Since she is the somewhat creator of the Chief, she needs to have a aura of strength around her that doesnt take away from the Chiefs. Thats why she should only be mentioned or heard.

As for the other spartans, they should answer directly to the Chief and appear weaker next to him if they actually appear. Perhaps the Chief should never make contact with them directly, but only through radio. A level could be devoted to them fighting a battle across the planet.

Those are some good ideas. I think even if they just mentioned Halsey somewhere it would make fans of the books happy enough.

Haven't you guys heard, the chief is now a mutant grunt name ReYab and the covenant are now mafe of cheese.

Honestly though, the storyline doesn't matter, it won't affect anything Bungie decides to do. You might think that a bad thing, I somewhat do after reading the books, but it could very well be more fun without any of the books entering into the plot of halo 3 (like 2 they didn't in two)

note: I didn't say I enjoyed H2

Yeah, i am i guess a bit conflicted on the matter. As a book fan, Id love to see as much as they can get from the books in. However, I dont want to see the story of the game suffer. I love literature and to look at its transformation into film. Most books cant make the transfer because things get altered that should be and such. Its a difficult matter...

Most of the things in the books are kept out of the games because they would be extremely hard to explain to people who have never read the books. The exception to this is Sergeant Johnson: The only thing you know about him is that he survived Halo, but the reason is "confidential".

Other than that, only small, easily explainable things from the books can be added. For instance, the battle rifle and magnum pistol, which are found on Reach when the Spartans are going through the CASTLE facility, are introduced in Halo 2. The humans developing new weapons is something that can be easily explained.

However, the books ARE part of the Halo canon; by this note, anything in them is potentially fair game for being added into the games, as long as Bungie can give a reasonable explaination for it.

While yes, they do listen to the Chief because he is in charge of the team through chain of command, they are not weaker than he is. Linda has the best sniping skills--she beats Chief there. Kelly is the fastest--she can outrun Chief easy. There are probably others mentioned in the book but it's been a while since I read them so I've forgotten. I agree with your idea for Dr. Halsey though. She is a little too old to be seen in combat.
