If you're reading this, congratulations. You've just pressed a button to find out a little bit more about me. Not that you will, but well done anyway.

Yes. Because I am.

But on a serious note, no, they/we shouldn't. No user on these boards really has a right to more than another because of their title, even if that title has been earned through good behaviour.

Until I checked right now, i didn't even know what title I had. Personally I don't think they should be anything except a motivation not to be dumb and get banned. In my experience ranks with privileges associated with them tend to lead to people obsessing over reaching milestones rather than making good posts. I don't see the nebulous workings of b.net's ranks doing much to help this.

The sound of iron shocks is stuck in my head, The thunder of the drums dictates
The rhythm of the falls, the number of dead's the rising of the horns, ahead
From the dawn of time to the end of days I will have to run, away
I want to feel the pain and the bitter taste of the blood on my lips, again

Absolutely not. We already have enough annoying images with coup.

Thank you Bungie,

See you starside.

I don't think so. Exalted members have simply been around for a while, correct?

Well, that doesn't in the slightest tell us whether they're responsible, they mightn't have logged in in a while.

Honestly I can't even think of a reason I would need to post an image.

Its bad enough that Employees are able to post image crap that makes everyone in the thread stupider. Such as Urk.

No one can be trusted with that kind of power. Least of all Urk.

The "page load time" argument is void too, since, presumably, images would not be stored on bungie.net, whichs allows browsers to download them asynchronously and simultaneously with the bungie.net page.
This makes page load times worse. Every new host is another dns lookup and another handshake before the transfer can even commence. You're then connected to a variety of hosts of non-guaranteed quality or consistency, trying to load a page that will inevitably have a much larger number of images on it that it used to. Page load bloat to the max.

>Poster clearly doesn't realize that the internet isn't filled exclusively with -blam!-holes.
>Poster clearly doesn't realise that Bungie.net is.
>Poster clearly doesn't realize that the Flood may be but the Septagon has a community of people who, despite a few rotten apples that everybody knows about, are mature and could handle this.

In addition, keep in mind we're only talking about exalted members. People who've gone at least 3 years without a ban. The number of users with that track record who'd abuse the function just to have their title and that privilege taken away is most likely slim to none.

Even if they were to have it taken away and "came back with a vengeance" , that's another 3 years before they could do anything again.

I don't really think they (we?) should.

First of all there isn't much point to embedding images in the first place, and second of all it would create a situation where not all members have the same privileges - a bad thing in my opinion.

Listen to our podcast and listen to us talk about the latest Bungie news and Halo: Reach updates!

When I grow up, I want to be just like goofenhour.

The only people that should be able to embed images is Forum Ninjas. The whole issue (from what I understand) is Bungie's lack of trust for the community to post SFW content.

But with the ninjas, they trust them with the ability to moderate their forums. If they trust them with that, I think they should trust them to embed images.

Exalted is one of the titles that's not linked to post activity, right?

If you had say, mythic, legendary, or heroic members, i would disagree: Those titles can be gained and lost too fast just by how much you post X or Y day.

I wouldn't mind with exalted, though.

But I think it's more work for the ninja's and Bungie in the end: Some people would get jealous, the initial period when such a feature is implemented would be full of people just freaking out over an image, etc.

I think what we have now and have always had works fine.

Though if such a feature were ever implemented, now would be the time to do it, while there aren't a lot of people using the site.

Once the new IP is revealed, site usage will surge back up.

EDIT: Case in point, I had no idea I was a noble (at all) or legendary member again until this second.

Now that we've established that I have a clear bias in this whole thing...

To my knowledge, the exhaled is for having no bans or warnings in a certain amount of years. Duardo's thread says three years, but that's approximate. Fabled is for a high post count.

If we went with exalted Mythic/Legendary members, then I can see a possibility of these people actually reflecting their title/trust rating.

Our issue is that we can't trust people simply based on their titles. I can name a few mythics off the top of my head who are complete jerks, but know how to be dicks without getting banned. I wonder if those people are prone to just not giving a damn one day and post a meatspin .gif in the middle of the Septagon.

  • 01.31.2012 2:09 PM PDT

As long as it wasn't abused, I wouldn't mind it. :)

  • 01.31.2012 2:12 PM PDT

Why the -blam!- not? If they've behaved for that long, I'd trust them to not do anything REALLY bad with it. If they do, it'll be met with a swift ban and they'll lose that ability. I think that the Exalted population is small enough to effectively moderate something like this.

I don't understand why everyone cringes at even the thought of giving special privileges to people with particular titles on here. I'm not Exalted, and I ain't mad.
