The "page load time" argument is void too, since, presumably, images would not be stored on bungie.net, whichs allows browsers to download them asynchronously and simultaneously with the bungie.net page.
This makes page load times worse. Every new host is another dns lookup and another handshake before the transfer can even commence. You're then connected to a variety of hosts of non-guaranteed quality or consistency, trying to load a page that will inevitably have a much larger number of images on it that it used to. Page load bloat to the max.

Exalted is one of the titles that's not linked to post activity, right?

If you had say, mythic, legendary, or heroic members, i would disagree: Those titles can be gained and lost too fast just by how much you post X or Y day.

I wouldn't mind with exalted, though.
How does that make sense?

>Poster clearly doesn't realize that the Floodians I was referring to are not those that are Exalted, but those that are not well behaved enough to reach that title. I was merely alluding the the greater number of exalted members, mythic members*, well behaved members who post in the Septagon compared to the Flood.

*while not necessarily being a mark of good behavior, they have at least not been banned in a while to currently have that title.

Firstly, the DNS issue isn't even an issue at all: The response time for a DNS lookup in the 21st century is so utterly insignificant that it's not even worth mentioning, and that's assuming that the address for the host isn't cached. Secondly, CDN.

Oh yes by all means, let's have another completely unnecessary privilege to abuse. So Achronos and the web team can have even more reason to doubt features in the future that give us more freedom.

There are image boards all over the web. You think images are that critical? Go post there. They are far from needed for the discussion that goes on here. This website isn't here to meet the every whim of it's users. They are way more responsive to the community than most, sometimes you need to take a step back and try to be grateful for what you have. Forgive any rude or otherwise implied tone, the sense of entitlement these days can be a bit sickening.

I am not 'entitled,' I was just making a suggestion. Perhaps you should take a deep breath or listen to some soothing music or something.

Also, this idea was shot down quite succinctly several pages ago, so I'm not sure why people are still arguing about it.

Achronos: And what's this about a "design team" I've been hearing? Apparently stosh is so awesome he's now considered a "team".

I really don't see the point. It will surely cause more trouble than it's worth.

All members should be able to embed images.

Honestly, I think these may be a good point too.

Many other fourms with much less mature communities have these features, a good amount of them larger then b.net, and don't have nearly as much locked/obsecene posts.

I think at least the custom avatars should be a feature for the fourms, or a easily attainable one.

I can't be the only one who just wants to have a recolored MP emblem...

  • 02.01.2012 1:21 PM PDT

I wouldn't mind it. However, a feature such as that would probably spoil the community. The whole point of user titles and prefixes is that they are purely aesthetic - moderators and employees notwithstanding - regardless of what they are awarded in recognition of.
