Well i dont really like the quote "If it ain't broken, dont fix it"

The reason which I stated it is because:

Since the Covenant are the first alien races the humans have encountered, they never really needed to develop more sophisticated weapons. Projectiles have, do, and will always work very well against the human species.

Before the Covenant arrived, if bullets could still kill Human, then there would be no need to to "advance" the way of killing someone.
Heh, no wonder the marines don't die when I cap their a----. Anyway, before confronting the covenant, they didn't know about other speices. They thought that they would just live happily on earth, a bullet could bring a criminal or terrorist down(or any other bad people) and so they would keep peace with that and then the covenant came and BEAT us DOWN. Don't flame me, it's just a statement.

You face an opponent who has never known defeat, who laughs in foreign tongues at your efforts to survive. This is Reply suicide.

"Oh Molly Connoly ruined my life, I thought the world should know."
Say Anything - Every Man Has A Molly

Think of it this way...

We haven't HAD to improve on any of our technology. For the longest time, we were only fighting OURSELVES. We didnt' need anything more than bullets and explosive to kill each other? Anything more than that would be overkill and far too heavy of a cost to the Military.

But think of it this way...

Our MAC guns are basically HUGE sniper rifle cannons in space. THAT is saying something for our advancement!

You also have to realize that we haven't been able to improve much on our own tech... We're almost constantly at war with each other with no real reason to band together... And if there IS a reason to band together, it's more for peace than for war... And we don't really make nukes anymore, even though they're the strongest weapon known to man. We know the devistation they wreak... Why would we try to make infanty weaposn just as devistating?

The Covenant have a limited understanding of their own technology, they've pirated it from other races or from the Forerunners. Sur we can have our AI figure it out and improve on it... But putting an AI in charge of making new weapons sounds rather dangerous. Don't you think?

Ever hear of Skynet?

The Matrix?

I doubt we're comfortable with that. We're stuck with our OWN tech in terms of improving it.

We've also recently gone into space. I'm sure we're more intent on tech directly associated with space instead of weapons to fight each other.

And wheels are great. They work for us. When we can't use wheels, we use wings. Or we walk... Or use a boat..

Why would we need hoverjets? Too expensive, I think...

Halo will be dumb if we all are zipping around with lazers.

Heck if they had it the way other people imagine it, people would be wired into a network. Just like the Matrix!

Um, I'm pretty sure they don't use gunpowder in those weapons. Maybe some enhanced, engineered variant of gun powder, but not what we use today. The weapons are actually pretty high-tech in Halo, seeing how surprisingly low the recoil is for the SMG and battle rifle and how large the caliber of bullets these guns shoot compared the guns that militaries use today. Plus, I don't think lasers would be really creative or fun either.

This apple is brown, and rotten. This orange on the other hand, is in relatively average shape. So the orange is definitely the preferable option.
----------You can't compare apples and oranges. You're so dumb.

"Think about it like this: the Halos would really only kill off anything that had enough biomass to sustain the Flood. We are fairly sure that lifeforms like grunts do not have sufficient biomass, since we see no combat forms of them. Now, a human child would have around the same amount or less biomass than a grunt would. Logically, this would mean that things like grunts and human children might not be killed by the Halos, allowing the species to survive and grow in the last 100,000 years. "

Halo kills any creature that is sentient or sufficent biomass. In other words unless it's bacteria it's dead. Second grunts turn to carriers. Third we were as other species were in the haloverse here during the forerunenrs troubles as there is no way life evolved from bacteria to a sentient and gained all that techolongy in 100,000 years. Based upon the defintion of a "library" in the "library" forum (look at the top image). The library contained cloned DNA sequences for life to be brought back after halo had fired and the radiation had gone away ( 150 days or 150 years based upon noahs ark).

Actually, if you guys research at all, you'll notice that the world's technology hadn't changed in the slightest during the Dark Ages. Only within the past c. 100 years has technology gone up in leaps and bounds.. How do you know our technology isn't amazing as far as medical science? Who says technology is always focused around warfare? (of course, warfare is a huge contributor)

I forgot 343GS says the Halos kill off all sentient life, but that could also be a broad generalization, depending on how you define things as being sentient.

How, exactly do you KNOW that grunts turn into carriers? When I see one, they are the same height as a combat form (their legs are, at least). Combat forms are elites and humans (so far), and grunts have MUCH shorter legs than either of those.

Also, don't base everything on Noah's Ark, you can't prove that that has any relation to the Halo story. For all we know, the Ark could be referring to the Ark of the Covenant, or some other thing alltogether. You can't make a valid thoery based on other, unproven theories.

While the library might contain the DNA sequences for various lifeforms, that wouldn't help out all that much. If you cloned a human, machinery would have to take care of that human until it was the equivalent of about 7-8 years old, teach it to walk/move around, etc. And it would need to do this for a whole lot of different "new" humans, so that we wouldn't die off from inbreeding.

Carrier forms are made from grunts and jackels. Jackels are really tall and so(somehow) anything below the knees comes off.

What's this have to do with anything? Besides, carrier forms are just the advanced forms.

Here's the flood life cycle:
1) Popcorn Flood (Babies/Larvae)
2) Combat (infested Human or elite, etc.)
3) Carrier
4) Reproduction

They're a suicidal parasite.

And the post 3 above this (at time of writing).. The Flash Clones died off quickly, which means it's an imperfect technology. (Didn't read your post fully, I'm not really interested in this debate enough.. Call me a jerk) ;)

It seems that the human races didn't really advance much with 500 years. Bungie should be a little more creative on weapon for Halo 3. I mean com'on it only took like 10 years from the first flight of an airplane to like the first use in world war I. Doesn't this puzzle anyone?? A very creative story, but not so creative arsenal.

Works doesn't it?.................

Taking a look at things like the MJOLNIR armor, you don't think it's a big advancement that we can fuse two atoms together in a box the size of my laptop? While the MJOLNIR armor itself is designed for warfare, teh technological aspects could be used in many other fields.

I do agree with what you say about other science fields, though. Things can be cloned/grown extremely fast, and new medical procedures are way beyond what today's technology is at.

I think that they haven't improved the weapons that much because they were focusing on other technologies (like space, medical, etc.). Think about this, the Battle Rifle is a future version of a current firearm that is in development (which looks VERY simalar), but they have a bio-foam that they inject into a wound if you get shot. Like "Oh, -blam-! Medic! I got shot in my stomach and it hurts alot. Can you fix it?" The medic puts the foam in the wound and he's fighting another day (so I think).

P.S. I am about halfway through "The Flood" on the Halo books. I have already read "Fall of Reach" and planning to read "First Strike.

Okay, I'm not sure why we're discussing what makes the flood, but I will answer anyways.
(Stay with me for a second, I'm just going to go through the whole thing)

Infection forms infect humans and elites. They turn these bodies into combat forms. After these combat forms are worn out, the skin is stretched, and they are turned into carrier forms. Also, they will turn any bodies that are not fit for combat (say, if they're injured too badly, or something) directly into carriers

I don't remember how they are turned into carriers, but the main point is that carriers are made from the same bodies as combat forms.

As for grunts, I can't say for certain, but I don't believe they have enough biomass to become flood.

I believe that the Halo system was designed to destroy all sentient life, but I'm not sure.

I don't have my books with me, so it would be helpful is someone who does could find this passage.

However, I think I *do* have an idea of what you're talking about: when the troops at Alpha Base capture a few of the Flood forms, McCay states that she "believes" the carrier forms are made from grunts and jackels, since those are not made into combat forms. However, the humans really know nothing about the Flood, so this is a complete guess based on incomplete and faulty evidence. As I have said before, in the games, the legs on the carrier forms are the same size as those on the combat forms, which would indicate that grunts and jackels are not the carrier forms, since they both have much shorter legs.

Edit: cortana explains that the flood eats ALL and since they cant use the grunts and jackals for combat they use them for reproduction. do you seriocly would turn down a jucy grunt just cuz its small? havent you heard of baby corn? its small yet it rocks!! so would you turn down baby corn cuz its small?

Because they are too small to use for things like combat forms and possibly carrier forms, it is possible that their mass is absorbed in order to produce more infection forms (a combat form devour a grunt/jackel, and then uses that extra biomass to transform itself into a carrior form and produce infection forms), or into the type of Flood that Keyes was being turned into.

Getting back to the topic, we also need to consider that there might have been some kind of great war or disaster that could've left technology advancement at a stand-still for one or two hundred years. The games and the books hardly explain what happened between now and the time the Halo universe takes place.
