its not that fact that they havnt advanced its the rought thy chose to advance. the covenant mastered all the forerunner tech and all that and now they have plasma weapons ships with narly energy sheilds and blah blah blah. the humans decided to go a different way in their tech advancement. they decided to improve wut they already had and continue on with out makin going a different route. maybe they never expeinced that tech but their really proficient in whta they have as as weapons that use steel and gunpowder. its all a matter of choice of what the humans decided to do

It's really not hard to use the technology from someone else. The Master Chief can use plasma weapons just as well as the Covenant can (with the exception of reloading them...)

Yeah I bet you 500 years ago in a play they wouldn't believe we were still using gun powder. Hell 500 years ago they sure as hell thought we would have robots doing our work right about now.

I'm not entirely sure anyone had a concept of what a robot was back then. It would have started to happen some time after the industrial revolution I'm guessing. probably sometime between then and around the times sci fi started with the likes of Jules Vern/HG Wells etc... also when mechanical dolls were invented, the Turing machine and other computing devices I suppose.

"Your destruction is the will of the gods, and we are their instruments."

1. Gunpowder weapons are way cooler than laser weapons.
2. Gunpowder weapons and wheel vehicles are really reliable in unknown planets.

Currently, there is a Sniper Rifle that can fire a 50 caliber round over a two mile distance. Bungie wants to keep the gameplay even, if that rifle existed in the game, snipers would rule the maps, which is why they have a maximum distance of fire range in the game

It seems that the human races didn't really advance much with 500 years. Bungie should be a little more creative on weapon for Halo 3. I mean com'on it only took like 10 years from the first flight of an airplane to like the first use in world war I. Doesn't this puzzle anyone?? A very creative story, but not so creative arsenal.

and yet explosive projectile weapons have already existed for around 500 years. in fact, that's what we strapped on to those fancy WWI planes. so I guess in 1912, people were saying "wow. it only took us like 10 years to fly planes into war... why don't we figure out something better to shoot people with?" but for some reason, here we are in 2006- shooting each other with gun powder cartridges.

Think of it this way. The only thing we are able to control right now in weaponized from is a laser (extremely bulky and requires alot of energy/chemicals to operate), Fire (only plasma weaponry we have), projectiles (be it with gunpowder or a high power magnet like in rail guns). You can say "Still" using it beuacuse there are alot fo factors to consider. 500 years may seem like alot of time, but how long were they still using swords and shields? Alot longer than that i know for a fact. So we cant expect to advance too much faster than that. I would say by the time we had halo 2, balistic weapons are brobably efficient at killing our own species, that is why there was never an improvement. "If it aint broke dont fix it." So they probably pooled thier resources into other things like the Spartan project, mass colonies off-world etc. We have to condsider all the possibilities. Maybe a pact was made to never further advance weaponry past ballisitics for fear of creating a weapon beyond comprehension.

Further more, we are developing new weaponry that is non-lethal. We are researching mocrowave weaponry to heat the general area around mobs to make them so uncomfortable they disperse, or then we have laser weaponry for anti-missle systems. We also have smart ammunition which explodes mid-air to enhance the area covered by the prjectile. Say a guy was behind a wall and ther was a window above him, just shot a round into the window and it explodes just inside, taking out the guy below. Pretty cool stuff huh?

Well, the shotgun in halo are the only weapons i think are a little farfetched in thier innacuracy. I mean shotguns today have around 70% better accuracy than those. But of course, balance comes before realism.

So your saying that we should still be using bows and arrows cuz i don't think it was broken. They were one of the most powerful weapons back then. According to you, we should all live in the Stone Age.

While they still work to some extent, bows aren't exactly the best weapon to use against attackers who are wearing full plate armor - it's a much better idea to attack them using maces and other blunt weapons rather than piercing weapons. As the different types of protection increased, weapons must change as well.

Going along this principle, when you can take the same tried-and-tested firing mechanism, and create an "attachment" that makes a projectile do different things, you might as well do it this way rather than develop an entirely new weapon. Gunpower can be used to fire bullets that break apart on impact (forgot the word for this effect), bullets that can pierce through armor, bullets that create an explosion when they impact, etc. No need to change the firing mechanism if it already works.

We're still using wheels and they were invented a LOT longer than 500 years ago. It's not really that other alternatives haven't become technologically possible, they're just not viable. But of course you realized that and were just testing us, right?

I go by many names, Shinigami, osiris, thanatos, Ares are but a few. But my name is not important for i am god and i am coming for you.

i am a master of my trade with these two hands i create great works. What is it i do?? ... well lets hope for your sake you never find out.

Like guns?? so do we, join Halo Armory and you can too

Gunpowder works, even though they are using gas to fire there weapons in halo they still use the same principles as current weapons, by using the recoil of the weapon it reloads the next cartridge into the chamber etc.... i think as well in the manual (for CE i think) it says that humans have discarded advanced weapons for more primitive weapon systems as they pack a punch and are easy tp produce.

and theres only so far we can go as far as technology is concerned, aso i heard saw someone mention the 50cal sniper rifle in here, i think its called the M107.

Not really. Lets see, you get a bow, and I'll use a Sniper Rifle/Machine Gun/Pistol/Battle Rifle/Shotgun (any one of those) and we'll start about 1000 yards from each other, who'd you think would win? And imagine wearing MJOLNIR Mk VI armor while you are at it.

For 500 years ago was... 1506, we used bullets then too, the only thing we've done is made guns more powerful and rapid fire.. in 2552 they added gas powered weapons. which in my mind seems realistic.

They didn't add gas-operated weapons in 2552. Our present day army uses gas-operated weapons just like those in Halo. I'm kinda laughing right now at the fact that most people think we use gun-powder in our weapons right now. If we were, our guns wouldn't be capable of semi-auto and automatic fire. Although, I'm confused at the fact that the military 500 years later still uses a pump-action shotgun...

whatever they do, i hope they dont make it -blam!- with lasers.... take the sentinel beam for example.... the most useless weapon on the game.... even the needler is better.

Let's get it own!

Yeah I'll agree with that, they need to be lever action so the chief can flip it T2 style jk

LOL.

I'm sure bungie would like to have an automatic shotgun and all that but then the weapons would be to powerful. If you had a rocket that was like a six shot revolver it would be g.a.y. so you cant put that kind of stuff in halo
