Love you Bungie!
Still playing Halo1 Custom Edition!

I believe there is some lack in halo 2, but not in H1. the pistol, the AR and the shotgun just seemed futuristic enought to fit AND DON'T GO SAY HUMANS DIDN'T FIGHT! They had civil wars and rebelions.. alot of things you can see on halo related sites. besides, they cannot deastroy planets wuith a cruiser.. the AR and pistol from H1 owned in realism and that's all..

I thought about this as well, having let say a laser gun seams Star Warish. At least make them "human weapons" sound more futuristic. Still keep the bullet, but instead of fire coming out of the barrel make shock wave. Just a thought

It seems that the human races didn't really advance much with 500 years. Bungie should be a little more creative on weapon for Halo 3. I mean com'on it only took like 10 years from the first flight of an airplane to like the first use in world war I. Doesn't this puzzle anyone?? A very creative story, but not so creative arsenal.

Edit:

I mean unless somewhere between now and year 2500 somthing, the human invented or upgraded into a type of super bullets, then the bullets should have the same fire power as the bullets in 2006.

-If this is true, the SMG bullets are= around 5.5mm and AK47/M16=7.62mm and 5.56mm.
-Takes like 3/4 of a SMG clip to kill someone in Halo 2, so if i would use and 100 round drum clip and slap it into an AK, I would be able to kill a Spartan 500 years in the future.

I know its a video game but,I just want an explaination bungie. (just say like they got a gun powder upgrade in the year 2299 or somthing)

What do u guys think?
Say friend, did you know that the US Standard railroad gauge (distance between the rails) is 4 feet, 8 1/2 inches.

That's an exceedingly odd number. Why was that gauge used?

Because that's the way they built them in England, and the US railroads were built by English expatriates.

I see, but why did the English build them like that?

Because the first railway lines were built by the same people who built the pre-railroad tramways, and that's the gauge they used.

Well, why did they use that gauge in England?

Because the people who built the tramways used the same jigs and tools that they used for building wagons, which used that wheel spacing.

Okay! Why did their wagons use that odd wheel spacing?

Because, if they tried to use any other spacing the wagon wheels would break on some of the old, long distance roads. Because that's the spacing of the old wheel ruts.

So who built these old rutted roads?

The first long distance roads in Europe were built by Imperial Rome for the benefit of their legions. The Roman roads have been used ever since.

And the ruts?

The original ruts, which everyone else had to match for fear of destroying their wagons, were first made by the wheels of Roman war chariots. Since the chariots were made for or by Imperial Rome they were all alike in the matter of wheel spacing.

Thus, we have the answer to the original question. The United States standard railroad gauge of 4 feet, 8 1/2 inches derives from the original specification for an Imperial Roman army war chariot.

And the motto of the story is Specifications and bureaucracies live forever.

So, the next time you are handed a specification and wonder what horse's ass came up with it, you may be exactly right. Because the Imperial Roman chariots were made to be just wide enough to accommodate the back-ends of two war-horses.

So, just what does this have to do with the exploration of space?

Well, there's an interesting extension of the story about railroad gauge and horses' behinds. When we see a Space Shuttle sitting on the launch pad, there are two big booster rockets attached to the sides of the main fuel tank. These are the solid rocket boosters, or SRBs. The SRBs are made by Thiokol at a factory in Utah. The engineers who designed the SRBs might have preferred to make them a bit fatter, but the SRBs had to be shipped by train from the factory to the launch site.

The railroad from the factory runs through a tunnel in the mountains. The SRBs had to fit through that tunnel. The tunnel is slightly wider than a railroad track, and the railroad track is about as wide as two horses' behinds.

So a major design feature of what is arguably the world's most advanced transportation system was originally determined by the width of a horse's ass.

Ok couldn't resists posting to set a few things straight....

FIrst, one of the most advanced weapons the human race has created, the human race can't use..sort of. I'm talking about the neutron bomb. Similar to an atomic or nuclear bomb, in regard to radiation, but without the megaton shock wave of destruction. This means that someone could launch one out of an artillery shell at some tanks, the peole inside the tanks are now dead, and the tanks are then usable with little to no destruction. Same thing goes for important or historic buildings such as the Eiffel Tower. My father's uncle worked for Sandia Labs in New Mexico and helped design the fuse needed for the artillery / nuetron grenade. (It was featured in the original Perfect Dark for N64) The reason it can't be used is most of the nations in the world now, feel that it would be used too much since it can not harm buildings / vehicles all that much. However if the Covenant showed up, you know Earth would use anything it could.

Secondly, yes it's true that 500 years from now, odds are that the Earth forces would be using much more sophisticated weapons, such as to name a few....Grenade launchers that can be detonated around corners, above something, or at the user's chosen distance / height. MAC guns... Tanks that DO NOT weight 60 tons, yet are just as capable. Yes the sniper rifle looks suspiciously like a modern day Bartett .50 cal rifle which I happen to own. While that not may change to much one thing is for sure, the scope (as well as Master Chief's helmet) would include things like infared and night vision and "binoculars." Also, personal body armor at that point in time would be able to stop most man made projectiles, so there would at least be one or two advanced weapons available...HOWEVER

Lastly, this is a video game. And Bungie is a group of game developers, not military weapons consultants. Now honestly, I wish during the first Halo storyboarding process they had the money / foresight / desire to hire a Tom Clancy type specializing in future weaponry. The thing that bothers me the most: No Earth Air Forces of any kind. I think in the books it mentioned some planes of a sort. I guess it would be good enough for at least the dropships to have some sort of weapon...Every dropship ever, has always had some sort of defensive or offensive weapon mounted with it, even the Covenant. All I can hope for is that the for the next set of Halo Universe games, someone thouroughly researches future weaponry, as well as just simple technology...The Master Cheif should have either a device with him, or on him, that enables him to have a map of at least known territory such as the Pillar of Autumn, instead of having to look at arrows on the floor.

ANYWAY, the games Bungie make are fun and that's all I care about in the end. If you read this Bungie, thank you so much for the fun times, even though it hasn't been perfect. Thanks for all of your effort.

P.S. Stop making threads about this caliber or number of mm's in a bullet etc. There are so many factors such as caliber, firearm, ammunition, and most of all properly trained user, that make up what is an effective weapon that you just make yourself look stupid when you say stuff like : An AK47 has 7.62 bla bla bla so it's therefore better than the Halo SMG cuz it's only bla bla bla...stop talking about stuff you know nothing about, research first. And lastly, recoil has nothing to do with why the gun in Halo sucks or doesn't suck...Master Cheif should have lower recoil anyway with his cyborg-ish self. Ok I'm done ranting...sorry everyone...

Third, tires and treads seen in the game are a very efficient form of transportation.

Ey, wheels will be around for a long time methinks. Even if we do already have hover technology. Simple but effective!
