Formula one racing kicks ass.

What happens at seven years for smart ai in the books is that by that time they have stored so much data that they start to go slow down then die or i should say stop running.

no, they just slow down and die. No rampancy, according to Fall of Reach.

It's not even really "slowing down" so much as tehy create an almost infinite number of dead-end processes, so they can no longer "think".

They are Rampant. All smart AIs are.

to bad the games dont follw the story line of the books.

Except for the flood because they killed off johnson in the book but not in the game. Then he came back to life in halo first strike.

The games do follow the storyline in the books. However, the books contain information that would be hard to incorporate into the games, since the books were released after Halo: CE was released, so anyone who hasn't read the books would be utterly confused.

such growth eventually lead to self-interference. Cortana would one day literally start thinking too much at the expense of her nromal functions. It was as if a human were to think with so much of his brain that he stopped sending impulses to his heart and lungs

yes, on average a smart AI builds up so much unprocessed data that it can't sort through it and slows to a halt, or turns into a blue-screen-o-death.

but rampancy does happen. it isn't directly mention an AI going rampant, but it talks about it. basically its where the AI is at the point where it realizes it has too many dead-ends and tries to tie them up, and effectively tying itself into knots. and similar to when a person died, their brain synapses fire and random thought processes are made.

but rampancy is more just a symptom of the degradation of the AI, and warms of the impending system halt of the AI.

Rampancy happens, but it has nothing to do with the 7 year lifespan.

All references to rampancy are made in marathon, not halo as of yet. But I'm sure they'll fit it into the halo story somehow.
