...Who?

A literally pro MLG team.

Nobody I care about, in other words.

That's up to you. I'm not forcing you to like/watch it. It's just up for anyone who would like to see it.

I know all that. I asked who they were, and you told me, and it turns out that it's not something I'm interested in.

Simple?

Good Commentary, VVhale. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was an intense game.

I was visibly shaking by the end of it. I don't want to make excuses, but my sniper isn't normally THAT awful. My hands were shaking uncontrollably. lol
Damn, I would have felt the same if I was in your position. Seriously, it was a great game.

I'm going to invade your heart like a barn swallow high on milk chocolate and grandma love.

Fairness is only possible within the limited powers of man. Elsewhere, there is only chance.

Thus I refute thee.

Well done whale!

They separate spawns into "areas" so that you can set-up spawn traps on the other team to score during objective games. Having a generally predictable spawn system helps to remove an element of randomness. I'm sure it's possible to make arguments against it, but I like the way it works.

I guess that makes sense, but personally I find it really annoying. I mean, it's one thing if the circumstances are optimal and you've got a solid team that can hold their ground, but if you lose a player, your connection gets a little rough, or somebody gets lucky and snipes a grenade in somebody's hand, suddenly you're trapped in one place for the rest of the game. Factor in the AA settings, and MLG is designed to make spawn traps unbreakable, and really easy to set up. I suppose that might be because of the higher level of play you see there, but it doesn't seem to be focused on gameplay at all - just the metagame elements like teamwork and map control. I mean, unless the match is perfectly even, you might as well just set the score limit at five and save everyone the time spent sitting around respawning.

I'm not complaining - I just find MLG really frustrating to get into as it is now. Seems like it would draw in more players if the skill required relied more on in-game mechanics and less on memorizing maps and spawn timers and crap.

I've found from experience that it is extremely difficult to hold a spawn trap against a team with equal skill. A good team will break almost any spawn trap within 30 seconds - a minute unless the other team is much better than them.

say what u want take anyone in the top 200 trade them for the "worst" player on any mlg team. let them practie for 8 hours a day for a month and watch how they magically are jst as good as the "pro" they replace. so many people are stupid! it takes money to get hardcore into playing halo as a pro. all those kids parents had money and helped them start out. get real people whales is a great player but there are literally hundreds of people that could go pro if they had the resources, lived in an area that had others wanting to do the same etc etc etc!!!!!!

Not the best way to word it, I suppose. By 'in-game' I'm referring to basic stuff like weapon usage, situational awareness, reaction time - the factors that dictate your actual effectiveness as a player individually. By 'meta-game' I'm referring to team-scale strategies that require both full map memorization and a coordinated team to execute.

Newer players to the playlist, unless they spend a large amount of time researching and studying up, don't have direct access to 'meta-game' strategies. They have to learn from experience in an environment that doesn't leave room for errors. Even a good player would potentially lose several games to more coordinated teams (of less skilled players) or versions of maps they're unfamiliar with, unless they're already set up with a coherent group of team mates and some knowledge of spawning locations and times.

Being a good individual player doesn't really mean much if you put yourself in the worst possible places and choose your battle incorrectly.

Playing smart is also a skill and MLG makes it a requirement.

Me too. Not enough verticality (except at the towers), and a giant wall down the middle can make games get stale quickly.

That said it does seem as though the DMR's range and consistency are somehow increasing the pace of games. I'd have to watch a bunch of Halo 3 Pit VOD to make sure, but generally from what I've seen in Reach it's not quite as slow paced when the score is tight.
