Subject: Why won't my NAT and Bandwidth improve?! *rage*

I'm in love with Jesus and proud of it!

I've been trying all day to get my NAT and Bandwidth to improve.

I've done everything: port-forwarding, changing my IP adress and other settings, and then my XBox still gives me the message about it not being open and when I play Reach it still says "closed" for NAT and "warning!" for upstream bandwidth, although my packet loss rate is "low/excellent".

My Firewall on my router is turned off, and I've followed directions directly from Microsoft on how to open my NAT on my particular router (ZyXel 660).

When I go to my network settings on my XBox, it shows a little image of a lock on my wireless network tab. Does this have anything to do with it?

I'm sick and tired of having a bad XBL connection. I can't play with friends and last night it wouldn't even let me party chat.

Can anyone help me?

fear me, for i am pro sauce

reset your router then test your connection to XBL on the xbox

Relax. I'd rather not piss this thing off.

One quick question, when you test the connection on your xbox dashboard does it say your NAT is open? The dashboard is more accurate on those things. Also if your using a modem and a wireless router, make sure you bridge your modem.

Also heres a indepth guild to openning your NAT sucessfully.

If you aren't using wireless then the questions about the lock is void.

Are you connected straight into the modem or are you connecting into a router that is connected to the modem?

It says something like "You are connected to XBL, but your current network configuration may limit your online experience."

It was doing that before I port-forwarded my router and it's STILL doing it. I don't understand why it won't work when I followed every single step, turned off my firewall, set a new IP, etc. It still says my NAT is closed.

Should I add XBL as a new network on the computer and then bridge XBL and ZyXel?

I'm using wireless, and my XBox has built in WiFi, so what would that be? Sorry, I'm not too knowledgeable about these things.

What's the difference between a router and modem?

Well you see ive had the same problem you did, I had a router and modem both acting like routers, so if you bridge your modem, your NAT should go from Closed to Open. Google how to bridge the modem type you have from there you should find your way.

I would suggest going wired as much as you can, if you can.

I don't know if this guide is better than the first one, but it was posted in the Halo Reach forum; Linky. I don't know what else to suggest OP, but you should read throgh these guides.

I've read through both guides.

I wish my laptop was XP and not 7. I could always get an open NAT wired connection on XP.

He says to open the following ports:

TCP 80
UDP 88
UDP 3074
TCP 3074
UDP 53
TCP 53

How do I do that?

Only way to improve your bandwith is to call your ISP and ask if the have something faster. Allso read this guid on how the Networking in Halo works, there are guides on port forwarding for most routers.

Either look it up and do it yourself, have someone teamview you and do it for you or go to http://portforward.com/
