My point in posting this thread is to say that the covenent knew where earth was.

Think about this, the cevenent found the first halo. Did that give them directions to the arc? which after seeing the Halo3 Trailer is definately on earth. Possibly. Did that also give them directions to another halo? I think so, why else would the covenent cruiser slip space so quickly to another ring?

The covenent also didnt expect life on earth, why? because there were no other lifeforms on the halo's which were all forerunner built. SO why would they find life on a forerunner planet?

So the covenent got directions to earth inadvertently through the halo's, trying to find the arc, they knew it was here, they just didnt know there was life on it.

This apple is brown, and rotten. This orange on the other hand, is in relatively average shape. So the orange is definitely the preferable option.
----------You can't compare apples and oranges. You're so dumb.

Thats funny as it's a fact the forerunners had to be on reach (where humanity was found) . It's a fact the forerunners were in alot of places including the prophet homeworld. So that logic is flawed. Also do you really think bungie would give away the single most important part of the game away in a two and a half mintue announcement TEASER. Not even a damn trailer? I guess it's just a concidence it looks like a scarab primary , sounds like a scarab primary and whats being shot looks like plasma. I guess it's just a concidence and that some how a ball of plasma is going to get six halos to fire. Sure it's just a concidence that the covenant moved away from it. Thats not the ark. I mean think if it was that would be game over all life dies at that second. However this is only 3/4ths of the way threw the game.

I think the truth lies (I'm swedish so please till me if that's spelled wrong and created into some amusing paradox) in that the Covenant wasn't looking for the Human homeworld, it's kinda obvious really right? They were looking for the Ark, and the reason that New Mombasa was the only place on Earth the decided to land is that they already knew where to find it. The trailer for Halo 3 was to my delight an confirmation of what I had believed.

So to answer your question - they didn't know where Earth (read the Human homeworld) was but they knew where tod find the Ark.

Wasnt the MC born on Reach? Wasnt that the new "earth"? So how could they have been forerunner. I havent read the books but i've gained enough knowledge to know that we started colonizing Reach because it was a habitable planet.

The MC was part of the spartan program on REACH, but if you dont recall, Wasnt Reach destroyed? I'm talking about Earth, not Reach. My logic is that the covenent found earth through searching for the arc.

Plus there were forerunners, but there were none on any of the halo's we went to. They all died from activating the halo's the first time.. someone reads but doesnt pay attention to the games.

I'd have to agree tenativly with sycomunkee. It would possibly explain a few things that I believe were intentionally left unaddressed clearly for plot purposes. Hats off to the writesrs behind these games, clearly brilliant and creative wordsmithing at work somewhere behind closed doors. For example, the moniters of both Halo's visted so far (Guilty Spark and Penatant Tangent) recognize humans or the MC as reclaimers while not addressing any member of the covenant as anything other than interlopers or meddlers. This suggests a level of recognition of the human form taken as forrunner, or assumed as such. Does this suggest that perhaps the Ark is on Earth and that ultimatly humanity is linked to the past forruners whom were seeking escape or survival following the activation of the rings, as mentioned by both Penatant Tangent and Guilty Spark? I've had my theories aligned as such since the first game and further confirmed by the second game. Ulitmatly though, they are just that, speculation. I'll have to be patient till 2007 and hope that nothing leaks that would otherwise ruin the surprize. Addressing the idea that the covenant knew the loction of Earth, I believe the plot would suggest that they had an idea of it's location, hence Truths arrival from seemingly nowhere in the second game. A preliminary or scouting force futher suggesting that intel regarding planet occupation, native population ect, ect where unkown and thus such a limited force arrived.

Again, all I can do is guess but it does make for interesting contemplation. Suddenly 2007 seems a long way off.
