A Guide to Networking, Matchmaking, and Host in Halo (HBO mirror)

Bungie Friends and Family invitee, and sender of "random emails" about networking.

Why are here if you not a fan of bungie's games.

Who said I wasn't? I just choose to judge their games seperately on their own merits, instead of accepting the newest as being better, and not thinking critically about it.

If you think "OMG THIS IS GREAT IT'S HALO 2 LOL", instead of "OMG THIS IS GREAT AND SO MUCH FUN " you're a fanboy. The kind of person who believes that a company can do no wrong.

That's fanboyism for you. Enjoy it because it's the next game, not because it's actually fun to play.

New doesn't always equal better. Blindly accepting it as being better than the previous game, or good because it's the next game, is stupid, pure and simple.

Name me one better online xbox game than halo2.

I'm sorry, I must have missed how that's relevant to my point? Whether there's anything better than Halo 2 online or not, it doesn't change the point that it was a rush job after the team mismanaged their time, and squandered at least half of their development time.

That they admit to messing up. That the campaign lacks an ending, is very linear and whilst possessing large levels, the playable area is very small indeed. That is has so much filler. That Multiplayer in the retail version was so unbalanced (and it still is, though that has improved by a lot) and filled with glitches. Want me to go on?
uhhh id rather play it cuz its fun to play and not be bored and only driven to find out what happens at the end

If you played H1 and H2, you'd realise Bungie "broke the formula".

I doubt H3 will go as wrong as Halo 2 did, as the team will hopefully have learnt to manage their time better, have a far better idea of what they want to do with Halo 3, and will be further along in the design process.

For those not in the know, after E3 2003 (halfway through development), they didn't have any playable code. Not even a demo. In a Bungie employee's own words "We messed up".

If Frankie's being truthful, at this stage they are starting to have playable sections, which is certainly an improvement over Halo 2's progress. As well as hopefully knowing where they're taking the game this time (instead of having no clue what's going to happen in the campaign, and how the missions will work) ... which means the campaign hopefully won't have filler, boss battles, poor, boring design, and so on.

If you don't believe my post, watch the making of DVD. Bungie basically admit to messing up H2's development on there, hence numerous problems with the final product.

Finally, someone else who actually watched and listened to the Making of DVD. Then we wouldn't have so many people complaining about H2 a year after release and not knowing why H2 turned out the way it did. (Not that it was a bad game; but it did have flaws)

And you guys really need to stop flaming One One Seven here. he is only saying what Bungie said themselves and is being totally logical and is onyl stating his opinion. Its not like he founded halo2sucks.com. People need to chil out.

Nope. But if Bungie is telling the 7ruth that the trailer is real time, I think that that is a clear sign things are really advancing.

I know. The DVD explains so much about what really happened during H2 developement, that it almost explains why it was short, no clear ending, etc. I really belive if more people would watch that freaking DVD we wouldn't have so many H2 flamers here and such and all the complaining would really be decreased.

Probaly the most simple and best response about H3 I have heard on this entire forum so far.
