and 1 of em fell into Reach'es atmosphere and Linda got nailed in the back and was frozen. So even if you take out all the other ones... LINDAS STILL ALIVE!!! W00t! that means a logical storyline for co-op if nothing else

Right on!!!!

There are 4 active spartans at the end of Halo, John, Fred, Linda, and Will. But because of the feeble invasion of Earth a few could have been killed in teh fighting. There are no more than 7 working at Oni becasue of their mutations, etc.

Errr...kind of...I agree Spartan's could appear in Halo 3, but the Elite Zuka Zamanee, while certainly the Covenant equivalent of a Captain, or a General, did not lead the forces on Halo. He was also killed by the Master Chief in The Maw section of the books. The Arbiter is in fact the Captain (Again the Covie equivalent) of the Covenant flagship Ascendant Justice, which the Master Chief (and Polaski, the Sarge and the rest lol) captured in First Strike. I believe the Prophets of Truth, Mercy and Regret punished the soon-to-be Arbiter (who must have escaped in a drop capsule when the MC attacked) for losing one of their precious flagships. So I agree on the fact that there might be more Spartan's in H3, but not on the history of the Arbiter lol.

Wow noob that ship was blown to pieces at the end of First Strike. Oh yeah and by the way Forerunners=humans

Well, they were training more, so there could be hundreds.

Didn't they all die when Reach was glassed along with Mendez?

Assuming the year is 2552

Master Chief was born in 2511.

The Spartan II program started in 2517. They trained for roughly 20 years. (2537)

The Spartan II program had 75 viable Spartans. (Combat ready)
67 were dead or "MIA" by the end of First Strike.

Which leaves 8, in the 40 - 43 age range.

However, with the second program, they could have accellerated it for a number of reasons, chief amongst those reasons being familiarity and Covenant spawned necessity. There could be another 50-60 in the wings.

This is all speculation based on the books.

Assuming halo 3 doesn't go on some mad rampage with time like in doa4 and in the first strike books and assuming that the second program is real and there are another 50-50 spartans, that could equal a storyline for multiplayer

Read that theory, it suggests that the SPARTAN IIIs are actually the SPARTAN IIs that supposedly died from the augmentation. It's a very interesting theory..

They didnt glass the entire planet...thats how Kelly, Fred, Sam and linda i think along w/ Dr. Hasley survived and how they came across the crystal beneath reach. At least i think thats how it happened.

From what the books say 8 spartans are still alive:
John (Master Chief)
Fred
Will
Linda
Kelly (kidnapped by Dr. Hasley)
then 3 unnamed Spartans that weren't at Reach

MC and Linda went to the space dock instead of going groundside at Reach
Linda was killed in that Op but was put in cryo and then Dr. Hasley revived her (dont ask)
Fred, Will, Kelly, Grace, Anton, Li, Vinh and one other Spartan (srry bout no name i cant remember) all suvived the ground assault on Reach
Vinh and the other spartan were killed defending Dr. Hasley underground at Reach
Li & Anton Died in the slipspace battle
Grace was killed by Brutes on the Unyielding Hierophant (sp?)

In the first book, Dr. Hasley tells the spartans that mendez is leaving to train the next group of SPARTANs and later on that the final stage of the SPARTAN II project is the MJOLNIR project

Read the theory, it's interesting and explains how the numbers of SPARTANS don't match up to the percentile of people affected by the augmentation process.

Also, the numbers of SPARTANs don't always match up in the books...read up on the theory. It's great.

Is there another book after "first strike" ??

Cuz I belive there where.... 5 left with mc at the end of "first strike" 6 if you count kelly...

No?

Yeah but rember that Mendez was leaving the spartans to "train the next group of SPARTANS" but they could have been killed when Reach fell though.
