Alrighty, given the option to use an ODST helmet in both Halo 3, and Reach, I've had a nagging at my innermost fan-boy.

What is the benefit of utilizing the ODST helmet on a Spartan? It was my understanding that MJOLNIR armor, and it's subsequent permutations, etc, was ridiculously heavy, and specifically designed for use by Spartans.

The ODST helmet would be by no means as nearly as heavy, and by extent not nearly as heavily fortified as Mk V, Mk VI, CQB, etc.

Is it simply a bone throw to those who love the ODST helmet?

Furthermore, does this indicate Spartans that participate in the some deployment and operations as their physically inferior counterparts, the Orbital Drop Shock Troopers?

Perhaps it's just an individual specifically trained as a Spartan and ODST.

Discuss?

"Censorship is telling a man he can't have a steak just because a baby can't chew it" - Mark Twain

As you should know the SPARTANS are gentically engineered soldiers so they can use the stronger, more moddified suits. While ODST are marines with more extinsive training so they get the lighter, but still durable armour.

Down with Ulfric the killer of kings!
On the day of your death we will drink and we'll sing
We're the children of Skyrim
And we fight all out lives
And when Sovngarde beckons, every one of us dies

Perhaps Bungie knew people like the ODST helmets and thusly let them wear it?

I'm 23, I have a house, dog, girlfriend, job and I have no interest in any fanboyism so if you're thinking about sending me a childish PM, don't be surprised when I don't call back.

Put Halo 3 in.
Play a campaign mission with ODST's
Shoot an ODST in the head.
OMFGOR BULLET PROOF MJOLNIR HELMET.

True story.

Clearly it's fan service but the spartans could wear it. There just isn't as much advantage to it as mjolnir.

I'd assume it is a version of the ODST variant but made of the refractive alloy etc.

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

The newest generation ODST BDU has incorporated technology that was developed as part of the MJOLNIR armor system. That does, in part, explain some of this issue.

That would be a considerable waste of resources.

MJOLNIR is horribly expensive to create. No military, especially the UNSC, is going to waste resources to make a "Special Edition" ODST helmet.

Was my understanding of that not apparent?

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

Don't get your undies in a bunch, OP. The ODST helmet in Halo 3 is for multiplayer. It's not like Spartans actually wore ODST helmets. Plus, Spartans didn't wear ODST chest and shoulder pieces (like seen in Reach). You're getting worked up over nothing. It's just a multiplayer thing.

apparent or not, you're getting worked up over potentially non-canon armour permutations in the multiplayer portion of the game. Did the spartans kill each other for fun? No.

Also, katana armour? Come on OP, logic...

The point of this post wasn't really to get to the bottom of the ODST helmet. It's all just conjecture.

My intent was just to stimulate conversation of the possibility of a Spartan-ODST hybrid. In terms of training, deployment, and missions, I mean.

Given the strained relationship between the two "factions", I find it an interesting concept.
