Caution: Wall.
NB: Just trying to discuss what forum selection would be ideal and why. Not necessarily outright suggestions but merely "what-if?" thoughts and opinions, if you get me.
What do you reckon it would be like if every Halo forum was made into one or two? Think about it, the Halo: Reach, Halo 3: ODST, Halo 3, Halo 2, Halo 1 & 2 for PC and Halo Combat Evolved forum all merged into a single, thriving Halo forum. Here are a few not-too-serious ideas:
The Halo Forum:
The place for all things related to the Halo series and the Halo universe.
Classic Forum:
Feeling nostalgic? Frog blast the vent core here, any time. A forum for all Pre-Halo Bungie titles.
The populations on the older Halo forums especially can be incredibly low, which is a sad thing. Think about this idea though: You know how if you want to go to a Halo forum, you must go to the big list and scroll to the one you plan to visit. This idea is if "The Halo Forum" shown above was a reality, there would be "tabs" at the top of it which would have the titles of every current Halo forum, ie. Reach, Halo 3, Halo PC etc. which would lead you straight to the list of related topics. The Halo community would almost be in a close-proximity environment. Forums like next-door neighbours. Rather than a topic being locked, cluttering up beautiful pages of topics, the topic could be "moved" by perhaps the Ninjas? (sorry if that means more work, lads)
That horrible page full of game forums could be done away with and the awesome looking drop-down menu in which the Bungie forums so happily sit would merely have the Crimson, Halo and Classic forums added to it. Or perhaps with future aerospace games, other arrangements could be made with the drop-down menu:
- Bungie Forums (link to list)
- Aerospace Forums (tab feature?)
- The Halo Forum (tab feature?)
- Classic Forum (tab feature?)
Something like that? The Halo forum with tabs for each instalment, the Classic forum with tabs for each pre-Halo Bungie title (epic day-long drawing board idea session may be necessary) and a forum for Aerospace titles (a tab for each one).
Please forgive my "write-first, think about later" nature; I do not know how difficult this "tab" system would be to implement but as I said, this isn't necessarily a suggestion. The picture of skipping elegantly from forum to forum with a little click on a tab at the top is in my head quite clearly. Wouldn't the accessibility be improved greatly? Nobody wants to go to that massive list and scroll down to journey into the unfortunate ghost towns. The Halo community might be a bit closer when they experience how easy it would be to drop by into neighbouring forums. Population on the older forums could be massively improved if the people in the slightly more populated forums saw the tab out of the corner of their eye. After all, the Halo forums are like pancakes, the older ones just need some more syrup.
The idea of a Classic forum is just something that sprang to mind when making this and I've seen many users talking about it in the past. Anyway, those are just some thoughts I had which could make the Bnet a slightly more connected place. The idea is far from bulletproof and flawless, but I felt I should share it with you anyway. And yea, this could potentially be catastrophic, sorry 'bout that too.
What kind of Bnet forum navigation do you think would be the most ideal? Please share any thoughts you have on the tab concept. If you read all of that, I really do salute you.
EDIT: Worth noting. I originally planned to suggest a SINGLE Halo forum with NO TABS whatsoever. One place, no limits and no categories. But I felt that would result in confusion and people would have to search through topics to find one about a title they want to discuss.
