Subject: Battle Proficiency Rating.

I just came across it for the first time on the halo waypoint site and it tells me it is measured using basically every regular stat possible: "kills, wins, assists, deaths, and betrayals"

Now I do know (and you all know too) that people can come into this forum or any forum and say "HEY GUYZ LOOK AT MY STATS AND HOW GOOD I M!" and that numbers never tell the real truth. How you handle certain situations when on your own and playing smart with your teammates really tell how good you are but again, that can't be quantified.

That being said, is BPR something that most of us probably have a similar number for, or is it pretty spread out? For example, mine says 77, but I feel like that range (70-80) is probably something that is common for most people.

I can't imagine people really having something below 50 and probably only 1% of people have something over 90.

Agreed. All the changes are good and add variety. Do we really want another Halo 3? Just running around with one gun and no armor abilities? It's good that 343 wants to try something new. Do we really want the same thing for three more games?

If I didn't go on occasional betrayal sprees in infection, I swear it would be 100!

^ same I've been spawn killing teammates in living dead and grifball for as long as I can remember lol, my bpr is 53. xD

  • 02.04.2012 7:47 AM PDT

Fun fact: 9/10 users with no linked gamertag are better than you at Halo. That doesn't necessarily mean that I am; but it does mean there's a pretty solid chance.

BPR is horribly inaccurate. I'm a 100 and there are plenty of people here- and I mean a lot of people- that would take me apart in a competitive setting.

Upper and lower limits are too low. There are far too few people in the 1-50 range, and far too many in the 50-100 range. Plus it doesn't take into account what playlists you run; a kid with a 3.5KA/D in Living Dead would have the same BPR as someone with a 3.5KA/D in MLG.

I'd suggest Halotracker's attempt at recreating Trueskill if you want an accurate representation. It's not perfect, but it's much better than BPR and anything Halocharts ever had.

100% Australian.

All good players have a 100, but not all 100s are good players.

After I saw the numbers that Halotracker assigned to you, I had a moment of blissful nostalgia.

No it's terrible.

BPR is just stupid. When Bungie stops updating the stats, all we'll have are social kids over at the 343 forums. :/

Without The Flood, I wouldn't know what an opinion is.

Ranking systems: Take it with a grain of salt mmmkay?

That's what it is already. Just the other day, I saw a thread of a kid suggesting A.I. to each player. Each A.I. would have different attributes and "alert" the player to incoming weapons/danger.

Today is a good day to be a Spartan

BPR is just like any other 'stat'...it is inaccurate, and can be padded, and is based on too many other things other than just K/D.

Example: before the release of Halo CEA my BPR was 98, now it's 87, because of the NEW achievements, which I have not yet obtained, along with the the silly Millstones, which is also part of this rating for BPR.

343 feels it's a better rating system, and may be very soon be the only thing to compare yourself against other player with, as they are looking into removing the K/D stat all together from their site.

Don't worry about it, and just get more kills than deaths, and you'll be good to go.

Are you -blam!- kidding me.

They have nothing on there anyway. If they remove K/D all they'll be left with is how many games you've played and how many challenges you've finished.

If peripheral support for Halo 4 is anything like this, the online community is going to fall apart.

  • 02.04.2012 8:33 AM PDT

I tried to check HaloTracker (it's the first time I have ever been to that site) but it gets its stats and such from bungie so can't check it.

  • 02.04.2012 8:47 AM PDT

i have 100, i think its pointless.

Because ony my main account i have an 88.
that account is a hero with more wins, kills, assists, and just a lower k/d.

Stats honestly mean nothing.

PSR = (((K+A)/D)*Win%)*120
The average player's PSR = 100

If you don't have a 100 you are bad. Really bad.

  • 02.04.2012 8:56 AM PDT

Frank O'Connor said he doesn't think the Halo series needs to be taken in a radical new direction... it just needs to go "deeper"

"Ultimately the core game mechanic and strength of the universe doesn't need to be changed, it just needs to be taken deeper. We want to make Halo games - we don't want to make Call of Duty or Ridge Racer. We want to make Halo games because we understand what's special about Halo."

It sucks... when you get a 100, then what?

It depends too much on k/d ratio, therefore it sucks.

Ugh, now I regret spending whole games betraying people to hear them rage...

BPR isn't a good way to tell how good someone is because the way its calculated makes it really easy to get 100. In-fact if you don't have 100 BPR, you're probably not that good.

So the only way it would be reliable, is if someone doesn't have 100 then you know they're bad. If someone has 100, well it doesn't mean squat because you can still be really bad with 100 BPR.

PSR would be a better way to calculate how "good" someone is.

PSR = (((K+A)/D)*Win%)*125
The average player's PSR = 100

Explain please? A new player could have a bpr of 100 just because he won one game and earned 10 kills. My kd is like 1.23, win loss is 1.1 but my bpr is 53. It doesn't mean im bad..
