Ok guys all your theroies are cool and all but since when has bungie put anything from the books into the games? I mean the last book, if you'll remember, was about what happened in between Halo 1 and Halo 2. Now think did anything at all happen in Halo 2 that was related to the last book? The answer is NO nothing from the books was put in Halo 2, so why does everyone think that the other spartans are going to come back and that that isnt MC in the trailer? It even says in the discription of the trailer in the Bungie news that that is MC. So most likely nothing from the books will happen in Halo 3, unless Bungie just all the sudden decides they want to and if they do thats cool but they havent yet so ya thats all i have to say.

Erm didn't Spartan 117 end up on Earth in Halo 2??? And didn't First Strike explain how that happened and how the Covenant found Earth? Or did I read the book incorrectly or play a different version of Halo 2?

The books go beyond the game and give side stories.

And yeah, Opey could probably win that game without using his BR. Best SMG user in Halo.

The books Showed the Prophet of Truth, and Tartarus way before the game came out. The books have everything to do with the game. Plus on the covers, they say, " Official Book of the Best-selling Xbox Game."

Edit: Oh, and they mentioned Covenant AI. In Gravemind, Cortana tells the Chief that she encountered a "presence that is unusually strong" or something like that.

Some people take the process too far and take too much inlfuence from the books as there are numerous story elements from the books not included in the games. Though the general flow of the stories follow the same lines.

So what some of the more rational book/game connectors are trying to do is make theories on what elements from the books will influence the games.

Yup. There was PLENTY in First Strike that was in Halo 2. You remember the scen where Chief jumps out of the Cairo? You remember the BEAM of plasma the ship shoots? That was something the Covenant picked up from Cortana when she had control of the the Ascendant Justice. Before that, the plasma the ships shot was more orb shaped (just like the Hunter's arm cannon. coincidence? I don't think so.).

The books are, as mentioned, official, and while they offer very different pieces of the story (with the exception of The Flood, which takes place through Halo 1), they are the same saga, without a doubt.

In addition to all that has previously been mentioned, there are the names and histories of the other living Spartans, an introduction to the Engineers (which didn't make it into Halo 2, although they were supposed to, according to the SE bonus material), and the fact that at the end of the last book, the Covenant was headed right for Earth. No shock to readers, Halo 2 starts with the arrival of the Covenant at Earth. I had never followed any pre-game release info, and yet I knew that would be the case, because of the books.

There is not a single contradiction between the books and the game stories that I've heard. They are continuous (or overlapping). They're not side stories, they're a prequel, a game novelisation and a sequel (or a pre-sequel to H2), in that order.
