okay, so i might be crazy but this is my theory, my 2 cents. flame me, agree disagree i dont care i just need to get this off my chest

okay so the POA (pillar of autumn) was a expiramental ship, first and only of its kind. that is as far as i know that it IS the only ship like that designed for what i cant say, probably transporting spartans?? who knows but back on topic.

the POA probably also had expiramental weaponry, so the pistol, the AR, the armor the marines were wearing, maybe it was all expiramental.

so back in Halo 2 maybe you were using out-dated weaponry, you know a pistol with no zoom, a BR and a SMG. maybe the military felt the need to create newer more effective weapons, a upgraded pistol, and a AR which would be a combination of both SMG and BR.

no that is my theory but think about it and it KINDA starts to make sense. Also the chief in the trailer is carrying around a AR, and a updated one at that. Maybe during the events of Halo 2 the army had enough time to start sending out its new weapons, maybe the POA was a test ship to see how everything would work out..

my theory as i said, may right maybe wrong, no need to throw a spass if im wrong. just share ur opinions and tell me where my facts r wrong, im a Halo fanboy but i dont know everything.....

Evil Angels
CHROMEHOUNDS
1/6/2010- A day that will live on in infamy.

The Man in Black fled across the desert, the Gunslinger followed.

I kinda like that theory..Its interesting..

You are right about this theory, but the other thing is that was the navy you were part of in H1: the marines were special spaceship troopers and the armor and everything was made specially for the mission to board the covenant ship and then try to find its homeworld.

I'm going to have to challenge this based off of my book experience though it may not completely apply to the games given story changes.

The POA was actually an old and outdated ship. It was chosen because it could wihstand more damage and still be pilotable and maintain safety of the passengers (spartans), in fact that's why they chose keys for the job as they decided they would need a decent pilot to work with such a piece of junk. Another reason was that it was never meant to be a permenant vessel and the spartans were expected to hijack a covie ship and sneak to the covie leadership or homeworld and take it out.

As for calling the equipment of theirs more state of the art i might have to agree with you. I don't recall anything being said to support or oppose that and it seems like the spartans would be given the newest of gear.

Oh wait actually in one of the books one of the other spartans picks up the halo 2 magnum and mentions how it's the weaker, newer standard issue or something along those lines.

I can't recall much else about the gear though.

Read the books man. The Autumn was the only of it's kind because it was the only one that hadn't been melted to use for scrap. The class ship it is? It's ANCIENT. Also, the weapons in Halo 2 were upgraded weaponry. THAT's your experimental weaponry right there. In First Strike it describes the rifles that the other Spartans, Will and Fred, find in the armory of the CASTLE base as...

Unlike the MA5B, this rifle had a longer barrel and stock, with a cutdown muzzle shroud. A scope was mounted on an optics railing along the top of the rifle. Will hefted a clip and insterted it into the receiver.
He shouldered the weapon and peered thorugh the scope. "Auto zoom, nice"

It also mentions a little later it has a clip that carried about half as much as the AR. That sounds like the BR to me. Also, the pistol. While it was described on this same page, page 133, it seems to me that Bungie had to nerf the pistol as the one in the book...well compare an old six-shooter magnum to a .9 mm pistol. That's how those two worked with the magnum and H1 pistol respectively.

EDIT: Damn you Mr. Pink! You posted as I was typing mine out...

January 30, 2004 (Warthog's Day)
The Master Chief emerged from his code. After seeing his dynamically lit realtime shadow, he went back for 9 more months of development.

Behold the power of the Originals, the Gods Axeone-Neurone.

According to First Strike the magum and BR are the new experimental weapons. As for the AR in the books the Cheif had been using it in missions for at least a decade.

wait my thoery aint dead yet, the trailer shows AR, a NEW AR.. why?? unless they took the AR to develop it some more and refine it... plus chief was carrying weapons in the Forerunner ship at the end of Halo 2, even if he wasnt he would probably have found something after killing everyone dont you think?

In First Strike though when they are in the underground base on Reach doctor Halsey tells a couple of the sartans with her (I think its Will and Fred) to go to the weapons locker where there are experimental weapons including a BR and a magnum so those are the updated versions not the other way around.

Some of that is acually fact, if I remember correctly from the books, the weapons on that ship acually were "specail weapons." Also, if I remember correctly, the POA was a old and trusted ship.

Good point about how they got all this special gear and stuff because their beggining mission was to find the covies homeworld

ya, they probably mass produced the battle rifle and smg, and the AR and Pistal were used on special missions only because they don't got enough of them yet. And now in halo 3, they have produced enough, and that is why Spartan 117 is holding his Favorite gun again !

i would agree, i just dont see the H2 pistol replacing the H1, sure it has more power but who cares, it has less ammo, less accurate, and halo1 pistol was better, i prefered it to any weapons, save shotgun and rocket launcher
