Speaking of Hornets, I have just finished assembling an army of 25 piloted Hornets, which isn't quite 28, my best record, but is pretty impressive.
To get 28, I would have to have several more Hornets than exactly 28 because AI prioritization is horrific.
If the player is in a Hornet, the first marines to get in will be the ones with power weapons, second the ones with small arms. But if there's already a Hornet available, the marines with small arms should get in them instead of getting in a passenger seat. But what happens? The pilots (marines with small arms) ride one of the other Hornets... meaning I have to spawn several more Hornets just to get the empty Hornets occupied.
I could have had 27 but because of the aforementioned problem, I decided to stick with 25. Also, because this took me at least 3 hours. Once there's 16+ Hornets and they do this (I call it Jenga Tower for obvious reasons), there is no fast way to get them untangled. You have to do a heck lot of jumping, climbing, pushing, holding RB, etc. There's also the problem of all the Hornets that made it into the air rendezvousing again (in addition to 1 new Hornet) and becoming stuck if I don't get in a Hornet's cockpit quick enough.
On the other hand, there may be a way to get more Hornets even after the cp, as the end of the 25 Hornets video shows. But when I did that, after getting 3-4 additional Hornets and returned to the third tower, 90% of my Hornets were gone. I knew they had fallen because I found a destroyed Hornet right in front of an AA Wraith. This was on Heroic after all.
