The age old question I find myself asking you. When I played 'The Covenant' earlier today I found myself perched in front of the Hornet, and as you are supposed to do, I got in. But later on I killed a banshee pilot without killing the banshee itself. Matter 'O fact, the banshee was in meant condition. I took the hornet because of its sheer firepower and there wasn't to much need for maneuverability due to the low difficulty, but the question lingered.

So, banshee or hornet?

banshee, nothing beats nostalgia!

Banshees have more firepower, evasiveness, and can really take a toll on anything on the ground.

But, a good Hornet pilot can take out a Banshee or any other vehicle in a matter of seconds.

With good skill the Hornet can be stronger, but as far as the more powerful vehicle goes, the Banshee wins.

So, I'd have to say Banshee.

Banshee sucks in campaign. It's movement speed is faster but now it's even more difficult to kill an enemy without closing the distance and ending up having to turn around and boost away. I wish it had hover like the ODST Banshee.

So as much as I like using the Banshee, I'm often forced to use the Hornet.

On the other hand, both vehicles are great for splatter. Bubble shields deployed by Brutes seals their doom.

Relax. I'd rather not piss this thing off.

-Master Chief

I would choose the Banshee over the Hornet, just so i can evade with it and also kill a target quickly.

You may want to fix your spelling in that sentence

Speaking of Hornets, I have just finished assembling an army of 25 piloted Hornets, which isn't quite 28, my best record, but is pretty impressive.

To get 28, I would have to have several more Hornets than exactly 28 because AI prioritization is horrific.

If the player is in a Hornet, the first marines to get in will be the ones with power weapons, second the ones with small arms. But if there's already a Hornet available, the marines with small arms should get in them instead of getting in a passenger seat. But what happens? The pilots (marines with small arms) ride one of the other Hornets... meaning I have to spawn several more Hornets just to get the empty Hornets occupied.

I could have had 27 but because of the aforementioned problem, I decided to stick with 25. Also, because this took me at least 3 hours. Once there's 16+ Hornets and they do this (I call it Jenga Tower for obvious reasons), there is no fast way to get them untangled. You have to do a heck lot of jumping, climbing, pushing, holding RB, etc. There's also the problem of all the Hornets that made it into the air rendezvousing again (in addition to 1 new Hornet) and becoming stuck if I don't get in a Hornet's cockpit quick enough.

On the other hand, there may be a way to get more Hornets even after the cp, as the end of the 25 Hornets video shows. But when I did that, after getting 3-4 additional Hornets and returned to the third tower, 90% of my Hornets were gone. I knew they had fallen because I found a destroyed Hornet right in front of an AA Wraith. This was on Heroic after all.

That is really cool. Any tips on avoiding the jenga problem?

"You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don't try to forget the mistakes, but you don't dwell on it. You don't let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space." -Johnny Cash

I would have to say that the Hornet is better (especially when it has missiles) than the Banshee.

Avoiding it entirely might not be possible since all the active Hornets share in the same go-to point with the newly spawned Hornet. It is only possible to prevent the free Hornets from being assimilated into the jenga tower, by getting in a Hornet's cockpit.

Although there may be one way to make the collecting much more faster and convenient but it involves sacrificing the opportunity to take a leader role and fighting alongside the Hornets up close. I've tested it and this is the result but I can't guarantee that the method is reliable as I was unable to reproduce it when I restarted the level (the game save in the video is a continuance of my 25 Hornets one):

-went ahead and triggered the cp without bringing extra Hornets along. When I got extra Hornets, they did not go to the third tower area but stayed with me near the island
-went ahead and triggered the cp, bringing several Hornets with me. I could not get extra Hornets to spawn
