Subject: The New, New Hawtness thread.

Gamers Anon

Achronos: And what's this about a "design team" I've been hearing? Apparently stosh is so awesome he's now considered a "team".

We all know the New, New Hawtness is currently under development.
So I figured I would make this thread to keep track of the features that we know are coming in the new update, and those we wish were coming. As of yet we do not really know what is coming but we can speculate.

Here are just some of my ideas on what will be added/changed in the new update:
-Layout
-Background
-Merging of the Halo forums into one forum
-Update for groups
-Being able to leave the queue for joining a group
-Possible new titles
-Update to posting and posting tools etc...

So what do you think will be changed/added in the new update?

What do you want changed/added?

What are the most needed changes?

Achronos has been hinting that the site is about to get a major update, the next iteration in a long line of new hawtnesses.

I just want an outbox, better text formatting (more options), and some updates to groups.

Where did he hint this? I have a post from urk made in November (I think?) that suggests the New Hawtness is a long ways off. Where's this post from Achronos that hints to this?

The new changes is going to be much darker than their next video game they're making.

It'll be like visiting a website that is painted black in paint. Yeah that's how dark it's going to be!

????

But then the threads about vidmaster achievements would be lumped with the "I hate armor lock" threads. It'd be a confusing mess.

I agree with it all apart from this one;

I don't think they will, not yet anyway.

No. That would be okay. It won't be a mess.

The people that discuss Halo on Bungie.net are lucky that Bungie didn't just remove the forums completely. They wanted to keep them for archives.

Maybe not in this update, but I do believe Achronos said it may happen in the future. I could have been dreaming though...

Looking forward to Groups updates.
Group messages (i.e: From an Admin to all members) would be pretty cool but I would see it being possibly somewhat problematic.

Bungie.net has changed a lot visually over the lifetime of Halo, but it has been fundamentally altered only twice during the Halo era - once in 2001 when we changed it from a Myth site to Halo site (and added the fanclub chapters), and then in 2004 when we switched to the code base that has been in use since then. The transition to the post-Halo Bungie.net won't just be a visual change with a few new/altered features. It has served us well this last decade, but we have a window where we can build ourselves tech that will last us the next decade. I won't talk specifics, of course, but we're taking everything we've learned over the last decade and building ourselves a brand new battle station. I can't wait to share it with you.

He also mentioned it here.

You're probably feeling frustration because Bungie as a whole is currently "dark". I'll just leave you with this, though: considering there hasn't been a major functional change to bungie.net for a significant period of time... just what do you think the Web Team has been doing? If you knew that you had a window where you weren't releasing stuff (and therefore had an extended period of time to work compared to your usual time)... what would you do? :)
