Speaking of chuckles, let's all lol at IonicPaul, who makes friends with bugs to make up for his lack of human contact.

Quite a buzz has been generated in the community/universe forums recently on the subject of Destiny. I'm getting rather excited.

As to I, and to imagine it's a lot of buzz from a game we have zero information about. This project certainly in my eyes is going to receive a lot of feedback.

I'm personally more excited for this, then say other games.

It seems like the Destiny map is made out of stars (or at least it is always superimposed over a starfield background).

Anybody have any theories on how the star motif will be implemented?

Don't -blam!- with Kerser!

I don't know if this is some kind of marketing stunt or something, but I actually just went and bought the game "Fuel" after seeing it in that video you linked John.

If you collect 120 of them you get to meet Yoshi.

I acknowledge my user name is stupid. However, I promise I'm not.

Disclaimer: The latter is a lie.

Brilliant post as always, John. Absolutely superb. I love visiting the Universe forum and noticing that you have created a new post. I always know I'm in for some enlightenment.

If what you say is right, Destiny will be an amazing game. With all the features you have suggested, surely Destiny would be near impossible to launch on the 360 and PS3? I think we'll definitely be looking at the next-gen consoles to see Destiny, as I doubt that all of these features could be implemented on current consoles.

Again, thank you.

Ha ha

Seriously tho. Consider the implications. A starfield is inherently 3D but the 2D Destiny map is superimposed over a 3d starfield. If you rotated the starfield 90* by its Y axis, the Destiny map would disappear because it is 2D. However the starfield would remain. This of course means that there could be other "maps" embedded in the starfield that we are unable to see because the starfield is not at the proper orientation.

You know what I mean?

ennemies A.I are perfect
NNNOOOOOO!!!

Elites
Good: grenade throwing, firing while doing evasive maneuver sidestep, firing their plasma rifle aggressively, know when their shields are weakened, can be caught unaware (a la CE), no crate climbing!!, various ranks (and they are distinct in appearance)

Bad: excessive berserking, excessive damage, semi-omniscient trait that H3 Brutes had, less surprise (often, you'll just end up with a smack or kick in your face if you fall down from above or sneak up on them), reverse melees, damage sponges (in CE, Elites had the same health but different shield levels. Now Elites have differing health and shields), bottomless clip, too animalistic, too fast, out of character Zealots :'(, no more Ultra Elites pulling out swords :(, drunk Wraith drivers

TLDR: handicapped badasses

Concussion rifle spam = pathetic
Excessive berserking = poor balancing
One hit kill melee = annoying (especially when it's super fast)

Brutes
Good: health system (a la H2, no armor just helmet and exposed flesh), new -blam!- scary hammer attack, plasma grenades (dropped spike grenades were hazardous)
Bad: can't be assassinated if they detect player, grenade throwing (friendly fire + suicide), inability to recognize plasma batteries as hazards

Hunters
Good: fuel rod cannon, huge and menacing, powerful, they use their shields to shield their face

TLDR: Badass

Grunts
Good: they go flying when shot while climbing certain crates
Bad: plasma pistol overcharging (on the other hand, this is limited to Grunt Ultra), they are uglier, have a new evil dance jumping animation thing (I categorize it as bad because it's hard to induce/reproduce it), less panicking (on the other hand, this means it's easier to headshot or beat them down), Ultras have helmets (on the other hand, they're no longer damage sponges yay!)

TLDR: What have they done to my Grunts?!

Jackals
Good: NOTHING
Bad: Everything; moving shields.

TLDR: I say replace all Jackals with Hunters. I'd rather fight an army of moving equipment. That's how much I hate Reach Jackals.

jackals are used for giving life to a in game horizontal timed varianced as skill. Vis a vi the matrix. Silky smooth. Take a walk on the boardwalk with me sometime. Although inclusion of more halo 1 -reach dub grouped hunters expressed as a 30-70 movement type/speed value increasd by 14% group frequency would be nice though and you have my agreement there. However these numbers present greater given possibilities of truth as a whole. Add in a correlation for range to fix any possible side problems most easily.

May I also add on a in game player generated effect time / (stat or achivement) / babased buff that, it takes 2 min together as a group ,no d, to start, but is basically an engineer gen type player support buff. I should clarify a minimum two person stat requirement.

From Reach, Destiny will be terrible.
Everytime I see someone say this, I can't help but feel like they focus too much on the details of what Reach represented.

Bungie was restricted by what made Halo, Halo. You try experimenting with all-new concepts, themes, techniques, art mediums and technology in a box that already has clearly-defined walls.

I think they did a fantastic job for what it's worth, and I consider it their best work from a technical standpoint. Perhaps not their best delivery, but the proof is in the pudding.

Reach will be a very difficult act to follow, in terms of audio, visuals, animation, balance and theming. I suppose it won't be too hard for 343i to follow though, considering they legally own Reach's visuals and gameplay engines and are using them for Halo CEA and Halo 4~.

I have pure faith in Bungie to deliver something far more enjoyable than Halo ever was. We haven't seen Bungie break out of their box that was the Halo series as of yet. ODST and Reach, to me, were Bungie's first real opportunities to prepare for seeing us starside.

Figured this would be of interest to those interested in the sort of technology that could be behind planet-scale world building.

Let me know if you consider it to be just a little bit similar to the footage we saw in the ViDoc.

Predicting Destiny based on what Halo was originally intended to be and what was cut from Reach:

With the rumours about Destiny being an MMO or at least some kind of open world game this came to my mind: Halo was intended to be an open world game at some point of development. I don't have a source where I have this information from, but I'm sure I read this in some interview or heard it in one of the making of videos. The idea was that you can walk over and explore the whole Halo ring. I would appreciate it if they would take up this idea again.

And I hope some of these prototypes make it into Destiny:
PAX 2010: Bungie Halo: Reach Panel (Part 3).
This kind of increases my hopes:

Unannounced Project, Game Designer          ; 2008 - 2010
-  Participated in very early stages of project planning
-  Designed and built multiple gameplay prototypes in a modified version of the Halo engine
-  Helped to secure publisher funding partially on the basis of these prototypes

Wow that took forever to read but I am thoroughly understanding where you are coming from with this...

Destiny, a bit cheesy to say the least but still, in the dictionary definition of "awesomenessnessness", Bungie has a logo there somewhere.

  • 03.25.2012 11:49 AM PDT

I've always seen the Space Fighting in Reach as something plausible for Destiny.

Yeah the space fighting stuff from Reach is really suggestive. It was an odd moment in Reach that didn't really match what Spartans do....... so I think its very fair to say that space combat will feature in the next Bungie game.

A combination of FPS and aerial/space combat in a seamless battlefield would be amazing.
