I'm in love with Jesus and proud of it!

I'm not a StarWars fan, but I think some of the creatures are interesting. So, I was on Wookiepedia the other day searching random stuff, and I cam across this:

The Sarlaac

All I knew was that it was the pit monster from Return of the Jedi. So, I read about it, and noticed that it was strikingly similar to the Flood from Halo.

-lives only to consume other life
-can live for millennia
-cannot be classified as either plant nor animal
-larval stage is parasitic
-can reach immense size
-reproduces by ejecting parasitic spores
-can colonize other worlds by means of spores
-victims are incorporated into the creature's biomass and become part of the creature's tissue
-sentient creatures' memories are integrated into it's own
-can speak telepathically and form a "collective intelligence"
-nearly impossible to kill
-keeps victims alive and prolongs their life while at the same time consumes them

These are some of the similarities I saw. Perhaps Bungie borrowed some of these ideas? Your Thoughts?

KOTOR

if anything, an unburied Sarlaac could pass off visually as the Gravemind

I noticed that too. Physically, they're quite similar.

You have to admit it's rather Flood-like.

Read it's biology on the Wookiepedia page. It sounds almost EXACTLY like a Gravemind.

"I may not be perfect, but always been true."

Most of those qualities are present in alien queens from the Aliens franchise, Bungie took a lot of things from Aliens, so I don't doubt they took that too.

Also, the Gravemind doesn't need anyone to reproduce as it's a giant mass of dead beings.

Have you tried a nuke or two? Those should help...

What I would say is, that like most modern Science Fiction, Halo borrows themes, characters and concepts from other Science Fiction, whether that be hard or pulp. The Bungie employees are fans of many things, not just Science Fiction and video games :)

Like any artists, there is no shame in borrowing ideas, especially if you can improve upon them :)

Might I suggest that you consult this guide to further embellish my point, but to also inform the uninformed :)

Well one thing Halo didn't do was improve upon them. In my eyes, science fiction franchises such as Star Wars, Star Trek, A Space Odyssey, and Aliens, will always reign supreme.

I honestly dont care. All sci-fi developers and writers copy somethings from another and yet bungie pulled everything together and still made a kick-blam!- game that is 100% original.

How about Halo and Starcraft? I always liked the parallels between humans/covenant/flood and terrans/protoss/zerg.

The spores to reproduce point was a comparison to how the Gravemind uses spores to infect other species.

Please don't hype for games...
They'll just fall short of your expectations and you'll complain for months.
