Game development companies, their publishers and affiliated companies are not Fort Knox. There are often FTP servers or other internet access points containing WAY too much informtion than I feel is safe to link in any way to the web, but without them, game development would be so painfully slow, a game like Halo 3 (just an example) could take an extra year to churn out.
FTPs can be hacked. There is a twit in the Philipenes who I would like to throttle for ruining my five year wedding anniversary doing just that... Disgruntled or stupid ex and/or current staff may also do stupid things - i.e. leak to the public.
In short, some of that stuff may be real, even though the majority of it is usually fake. This requires equal and indiscriminatory application of The DeleteRod and The BanStick, else you risk your much more than having your more industrious fans find spoilers they shouldn't. You could lose your whole game, or worse, it's engine and source code. There is hard work, big money and IP security at risk, so give the mods a break.
