Subject: Halo 2 SLASO - QZ Tips Needed

Hey guys, after attempting Outskirts I decided that Quarantine Zone would be a nice level to attempt since it's mostly vehicular based so it should be easy. Well, things didn't quite pan out and you can see a combination of failed attempts here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MwIxSW8OY8M

I apologise for the voiceover, first time I've tried something like this (weird talking to yourself!) but needless to say, I need some advice for how to reach the Gondola's since once you reach the Gondola's it's more or less just a waiting game from then on out.

Any advice is appreciated, thankyou.

Rule #1 of H2 SLASO: Vehiclular based missions are hell to do it on.

As for tips,

I find the 'get out of Ghost and cloak routine' a pain in the ass to do. It's especially risky if you do it out in the open. It's better to do it while you have cover.

With the Ghost, you have to take it slow and carefully. The collisions with other Ghosts and walls should be avoided because H2 vehicles don't have that bumpiness that was in CE.

When in doubt, use long range Ghost bolts. It might take forever but it should work IIRC (haven't played the level on LASO. Just something I picked up from other levels).

Some parts are often difficult to do this with since there are a ton of Flood with Rockets (which ironically made up for most of my deaths after I gave up trying to drive the Ghost over the wall) but others can be sped through quite easily.

The final part of the video is where I get stuck at currently, with Flood chasing me from behind and a Ghost and a Wraith in front, I've had no luck breaking through to reach the Gondola's which is a shame because I would like to be able to say I managed to successfully complete one level xD

Do they have extraordinary aim like the ones in CE or do they use homing?

Want me to test this part? I still have H2 Vista.

Homing unfortunately. It's difficult to see where the Flood are as it is, so I resorted to using camo and trying to charge through the part with the Wraiths in an attempt to not be locked onto and get to safety.

And yes, if you could find a tactic in your spare time it'll be greatly appreciated. I'm working on it as we speak xD

Holy mother... that was the most excruciating test I ever did. I managed to get past the 2nd destroyed forerunner factory after a hundred deaths before I reached it.

I think I've made it to the area that you're at. Bypassing it is easy. But how the heck do I spawn the enemies in the next area?! I got to the elevator with no enemies.

Edit:

I got past it and I'm at the cutscene. Of course, I did not turn on Black Eye or Blind.

Once you get past the area after the destroyed factory and the Wraith, then you have to go to a certain location where you'll be safe from the warthogs and ghosts and wait until the Phantom arrives and drops off the Spectre. Then make your move to the next area. Then just boost, once you're close to the machine gun turret, do the get out and cloak routine.

It seems to work, it's just a matter of getting past the area with the Wraith. With Black Eye, I either have next to no shields or no shields at all. The Wraith tends to cut me up right at the end which is frustrating.

Yeah, same old get out and cloak routine...if it worked for me D:. Seems to enjoy not working sometimes and giving me a few inconsiderate deaths...

Here's my run. Extremely segmented.

The skulls weren't a big deal since I could just use a dev trainer. I see that you do SLASO on H2 Vista. Want to know how to get the skulls via dev trainer? ;)

It's difficult to get even a shield recharge. If I turned on Black Eye, there's no way I could have made it.

The routine is troublesome but the key is 'slow and steady wins the race'. To avoid being tracked by the first rocket launcher Flood, get out of Ghost, cloak, pause, then get back in and boost.

Btw, maybe it's the key you used for cloak? I use the Tab button to cloak.

I got most of the trainers out there xD i didn't realise there was a skull trainer, which I suppose there would be no harm in using as it saves time having to go through all my profiles and picking up the Skulls again. That and I have a bad checkpoint with the Mythic Skull, surrounded by Flood which are camouflaged...

On QZ, a recharge is impossible, Flood are immune to beatdowns and Sentinels explode if destroyed via melee, thus taking down your shields anyway. Not to mention the countless invisible Flood running around, shields are a no go.

Yeah the rocket part I've got sussed out, although there are incidents where I fail due to not reaching the tunnel in time or the Wraith kills me at the end. Interestingly we use similar tactics, I would like to see one of your attempts with every single skull turned on however.

Well I was talking about Paulus' dev trainer.

To get the dev trainer to work (if it doesn't work for you), see here. The LiveFix download link is down so download it from here.

Speaking of dev trainers, do you know how to get the Casca trainer to work?

Try Xlax's tutorial.

To get the Flood human combat forms to leave the room, simply go to the next area and run past them and all of the Flood will leave the room (and never come back).

So the Sentinels just blow up on the spot? Odd, I thought the Mythic skull would make it so that they blow up after they fall and Sputnik allowed you to melee them away from you.

I'll never do it with Blind. NEVER. Not after... that incident.

Ah well I've heard bad things about Paulus trainer so I'll probably avoid it in this case.

Casca Trainer I have no idea I'm afraid :/

I may have to replay the level, a checkpoint surrounded by Camo Flood is not good, I didn't think things through when I played the level with the Assassins Skull turned on...

I'm fairly certain they do, I've not tried with Sputnik turned on. After my first ever playthrough of Halo and Halo 2 all those years back, It became second nature to never melee sentinels to me. I may have to experiment with this but the Sentinel beam will surely kill me before I can destroy it with melee hits.

Ok don't use blind then...but Black Eye...give it a shot!

The Sentinels are tricky to melee. They will blow up but you also get a little health. Monopoli makes it work but all I ever did was to stay even with health with BE on.
