I still have just as much fun as I did in the Beta, be it in Vanilla, TU, or Anniversary. Might not be the most competitive Halo title, but I'm not the most competitive gamer, nor are the randies that comprise my 'team' competitive in any way.
I think that's what I like most about Reach - it accommodates the matchmaking environment better than any other Halo title. Even when the population gets low and team balance goes out the window, the 'randomness' of the various mechanics smooths things out. I still have good games and terrible games, but imo they're more fun even when they're terrible than they would have been if I had played them on Halo 3.
(Not to say that some games wouldn't be better on Halo 3 - just not a lot of games you find via the MM system)
