I have to say, I'm not a big fan of those base title ideas, but I'd be fine with them.

Blackness Confirmed. You've got soul.

The Ultimate Opinion.

I don't like the idea of using those titles. They seem wrong for the site, and don't work well with the prefixes.

I think it would work better if Bungie made titles relevant to their new IP, just as these current titles are relevant to Halo.

Unlocking prefixes is a good idea, if it could be controlled. Maybe only be allowed to change it once a month? Without a restriction I can see people changing it all the time. It would be a mess.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

I think changing Prefoxes is like changing your avatar or Reach nameplate, it is a choice and only affects that user individually.

Well, here we are. I guess that it was destined to come to this.

It's not what our member titles state we are, it's what we post that defines us.

Pretty much.

Just like when we had sigs that displayed and would get "rate my sig" threads. I would always respond with "it's what is above your sig that you should care about".

Now with titles, my response is "it is what is below your titlebar that should be your focus".

But it's all/always about hats. And it is (as always) tiresome. (It is one of the few times that the Prophet Truth, spoke the truth)

I like the idea of an opt out system as well.

Tram Fortress 2 springs to mind.

My thought was that you could have multiple prefixes. If you were a six-year member, has not been banned/warned in three years, and you are a normal member you could get the title "Exalted Elder Member". Just my take on it.

I don't see an issue with the current title system, they're shiny, arbitrary, and meaningless. They only show that the user with a title is capable of following the rules.

I can see a system where users can dedicate a 'Community Point' to one specific user every [insert relatively long time here, long enough to not be abused] that will increase a user's title prefix. Maybe a Community Prefix at that.

The only flaw is alternate accounts can vote up their own main accounts. An IP-related lock could be used to prevent the same IP from voting up their own accounts, but you would have to track everyone's IP.

Unless the system could simply program it to prevent the voting up of one's account if their IP is the same, without storing the IP.

I would like to be able to choose what base title and prefix that I would display instead of having to be a Fabled Mythic Member all of the time. I don't care too much about what the titles and prefixes are named, but I would just like to be able to customize them like I currently can with my avatar and background.

You imply a level of control over Halo: Reach matchmaking that we no longer have. Or, in your vernacular, it isn't our shiznit anymore.

I agree with this and the opt out option.

Also I think it would be better if the titles and prefixes had definite requirements. The mysteries of the current title system are interesting but it gets old reading member's complaints that they didn't get a title even though they did so and so.

It's remarkable how an abbreviation can say so much.
I agree with you, the current title system is very successful in that it shows, with the majority, who follows the rules.

Sometimes a little change in the system isn't a bad thing. Maybe a change to the title system would stop all the crying for a little while.

If Bungie's next game involves ranks, they should happily introduce them to the title system.

Heavy weighs the crown, low hangs the head who wears it.

I'd be for a selection of "titles earned", as-well as the "opt-out" option in that selection.

I'd also like to see a [blam][/blam] tag to allow use of language, but the ability to filter it at the same time.

I see my Grizzled Ancient idea slipped up into that little discussion. Me gusta.

I have always been a fan of changing the titles system around for it to be more accessible and more-user oriented so I'm definitely up for this.

But, in taking out Member, what would the new title be for first-time joiners? Newbie? Freshman?

Change member to "Newbie" and I agree wholeheartedly.
The "Newbie" would wear away after 2 or so months, and you would be come a normal member(Havn't thought of a word for this title)

Also, for the love of God, I'm sick of being a normal member.

Edit: only being able to change your prefix once a month.

I'm actually not sure what all of the crying is about, to be completely honest.

I've had every title, and still have never cared about someone else's title. I might have had a minor celebration when I got mythic yesterday, but that's about it. You won't see me trying to pick up chicks at a bar with my Blue Title bar.

Grizzled should definitely be a title.
I was thinking prefix.Posted by: wallawalla1992
We would need an Ancient rank then to go with it then.
I like it more as a prefix too. But, who knows? Bungie may have to ditch Heroic/Legendary/Mythic because they are too Halo-related.

I have no problem with seeing Grizzled replace Legendary, and Ancient replace Mythic.... What would be the Bungie-related equivalent for a replacement of Heroic?

Have you seen my mind anywhere? I seem to have lost it...

0x0 x0x 0x0 000 000 x0x 000
x0x 0x0 0x0 0xx 000 0x0 000
x0x x0x x00 0xx 0x0 x0x 0x0

I have seen you future

I like the idea of choosing your title, but wouldn't really care either way for the change in base titles. Choosing your prefix would eliminate the hierarchy of titles, since if you saw a heroic member and an exalted member you wouldn't know who actually had a higher title since the heroic member may just prefer the word.

As far as opting out of the title system I like the idea, but I don't like the idea of giving them a special symbol next to their name, as it would be another way to differentiate yourself, defeating the purpose.

“Oh, it’s a little bit of everything, it’s the mountains, it’s the fog, it’s the news at six o’clock, it’s the death of my first dog, it’s the angels up above me, it’s the song that they don’t sing, It’s a little bit of everything.”
- Dawes, A little bit of everything

I'd be okay with that, but it seems almost like making an inside joke a little too public. The member titles as they are now are difficulty levels from Bungie games and we cannot know if these will not be continued through to Destiny.
