Old School

who cares man...the web team are gona do wat theyre gonna do. the only thing titles are useful for is for newer members to get their questions (relating to bungie/bungie games) answered by other members who have had more experience with the site.

I'm trying to become an '04, but it's not working too well."

I'm down for the opt out, although i know i'd be ignored oh so much more.

I'd like an "opt out" option for titles, not just having one, but even seeing them.

Where a member would select a checkbox and their title would go to "Member+" or "Refuses to wear a hat" or something that indicates that they don't display their title and they don't SEE yours.

For example, I would gladly choose an option that made all member titles not display for me (or all ninja). It would instantly eliminate any claims or perception of "moderator favoritism" or bias for/against people based on their title bar.

It would also allow (for users who chose this option) to display to others that when they post/read, they are looking at your words and not your bar.

But I would consider such a feature as small measure and not a "must have" because the fact is that I mentally perform the same filtering/ignoring that I have described.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

Elder Ancient Grizzled Member?

Seems like too much of a stretch. I'm all good with the other titles, but you need to change this one, it's too long.

Key

Idea just because I'm bored:

9-11 years on the site: Grizzled Ancient

6-8 years on the site: Rugged Senior

3-5 years on the site: Hardened Junior

1-2 years on the site: Sophomore

less than one year on the site: Freshy*

Critiques? I honestly only came up with it because of the fact that I'm incurably bored at the moment, so it may not be good in retrospect.

*Freshy being a nickname for Freshman... I think it sounds better as far as titles would be concerned.

Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,
Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it."

Very good proposal Duardo, the only qualms I have would be the skool titles, wouldn't it make more sense to have a few more titles like: Newbie(New Members obviously), Disembodied Member(Instead of Absent), and VidMaster(For those who have been here the longest) added to the ones you have suggested for base titles?

Another suggestion would be like the nameplates from Halo where you could interchange titles you have earned and thus allow further customization?

Just done a quick bit in photoshop;

Change your Prefix preview.

Anyone think it'd look good like that? (I know it wouldn't look like this because of the New Hawtness Version 3 but you get what I mean)

I would love this change, it would fit a little better with the titles IMO.

I think using Highschool names for ranks is a bad idea.

  • 02.06.2012 1:50 PM PDT

I hereby express my support for Duardo's ideas.

It was just an easy arbitrary title hierarchy title-y thing. I would use another if I knew one.

I acknowledge my user name is stupid. However, I promise I'm not.

Spread the love...

I pretty much am in agreement of all the points made.

However, there should be "Newbie School Member" before them all.

  • 02.06.2012 2:28 PM PDT

They could also base the new titles off the new series they are still working on. It's always an idea.

Chief vs the scarab? I find that hard to believe to roundhouse boot the scarab's figurative emotion out of the gaming zone.

Meh. I won't be happy until my title is "Master of the Midgets".

It only takes a simple question to change everything.

I love the idea of being able to select your own prefix. I think that there should be more prefixes. Some of them should be based off of previous one just with more requirements. A good example would be something after fabled for getting an extremely high post count.

@Geegs30

Not sure we want new folks to be called "Newbies," that just sets them up to get called out all the time. I like the other suggestions though.

I feel that if all of us can select what Prefix we want, it ought to be visible to other people on our profiles or somewhere what we have available to choose from. So, say I see that Duardo is an Intrepid Old Skooler. I can go to his profile and see that not only is he Intrepid, but he's also Exalted and Fabled, he just likes the sound of Intrepid. Eh?

Who the hell do you think I am?

I propose a change to the current system. Rather than a system that automatically selects a prefix for you, how about once we have met that requirement, we are able to select which one we want? Even better: Once a user hits a certain base title, perhaps having that user input what they want their prefix to be?
Yes! I want this so badly!

Why not stop by my File Share while you're here?

~Long Live Halo 2
Only regret is I didn't play more of it.

If you haven't noticed by now, I'm sort of a jerk.

I'd love to be able to change between prefixes we qualify for. Granted, right now I only qualify for two, but when I qualify for Veteran late this year, I'd rather have that than Fabled.

This is actually the stupidest thing ever posted on B.net:

Why does everyone hate Halo 2? Maybe its because its the worst game ever next to mario.

What if titles were based off your join date? Nothing fancy, just display the "Member Since: 20??" next to the username.

There comes a time in every mans life... and that time is not now.

I'd like to be able to choose my own prefix. I'm getting a little tired of this 'Fabled' business.
