I didn't know the words "heroic", "legendary" and "mythic" were exclusively for Halo.

They were obviously derived from it.

Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...
I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

Good idea.

Key

Titles:
10+ years on the site: ... the Magnificent
8-9 years on the site: ... the Great
5-7 years on the site: Elder
3-4 years on the site: Noble
1-2 years on the site: Citizen
less than one year on the site: Member

Prefixes:

Behavior: Honorable -> Exalted
Posting: Intrepid -> Fabled

There's no more Halo-related titles/prefixes.

There's enough titles/prefixes kept to make it noticeable, and there's enough new stuff added to make it different.

lol

I like the current titles, but a system of requirements and then choosing your title seems very promising.

Whilst the current titles have the obvious Halo connotation, the words don't explicitly refer to Halo.

Besides, Bungie doesn't want to ostracise and distance themselves so far from their Halo heritage, do they? It'd be a nice memento to keep a hold of.

If I am not posting, then I am reading what you might have posted.

I agree with all of this, all of it! I want the title system to stay and to have more customization!

Yes, I AM just that awesome.

I'd first like to suggest a change in the base titles. Currently they are, Member, Heroic Member, Legendary Member, and Mythic Member.

Seeing as Bungie has moved on from Halo, and since almost everything Halo will be frozen, I propose a change. Rather than keep these Halo titles, let's change them to Bungie titles.
I believe Heroic and Legendary first appeared in Myth.

Otherwise sounds good.

I love your ideas for this new system Duardo, but I disagree with the usage of the Bungie specific titles. I would prefer something a bit more interesting than Grizzled Ancient or Old Skool :)

I'd like an "opt out" option for titles, not just having one, but even seeing them.

Where a member would select a checkbox and their title would go to "Member+" or "Refuses to wear a hat" or something that indicates that they don't display their title and they don't SEE yours.

For example, I would gladly choose an option that made all member titles not display for me (or all ninja). It would instantly eliminate any claims or perception of "moderator favoritism" or bias for/against people based on their title bar.

It would also allow (for users who chose this option) to display to others that when they post/read, they are looking at your words and not your bar.

But I would consider such a feature as small measure and not a "must have" because the fact is that I mentally perform the same filtering/ignoring that I have described.

A grease monkey script perhaps?

As for the naming convention for the current titles I would welcome some name changes. Being that they aren't too long.

I think that Heroic, Legendary, and Mythic should remain, they sound cool. But they could add more with them, and add more prefixes.

Also they should revamp the title system to make it easier to track, and it should be harder to lose your title once you get it.

I really like the ideas. I like the title system as is, but your proposed changes make sense and I would be in favor of them.

I do like the idea of a selectable title when you have unlocked it, I would like to keep my 'Intrepid' title over my inevitable 'Fabled' title.

But would these "school" titles be ban proof? Or would they reset as the current base titles now would (If you were banned, it'd be reset)?

I like your way of thinking Duardo, you're alright ;)

I agree that a title system revamp seems a fitting update. The title should be a reflection of who you are, how long you've been here and your contribution to the community.

While it can be said that the current title system delivers these functions, it does so in a less direct way, much like you yourself pointed out.

The Bungie 'skool' system would be a rad addition to member titles, along with a few other options, of course.

@spawn031

"So much of what we do is ephemeral and quickly forgotten, even by ourselves, so it's gratifying to have something you have done linger in people's memories." John Williams

I wouldn't mind it, but I feel like the title system should add more incentive to invest into a single account. Whether that be done with a custom title, or cool "in game" feature or what have you, the concept is the same.

People feel no need to invest into a single account right now simply because there isn't any feature that you unlock over new users. Granted it is the internet, no matter where you go there will always be member that just visit to solely disrupt other users.

Recon's idea of the "opt in/opt out" system is definitely worth a look at. For users that really don't care to see all the fancy colors on the forums shouldn't be "forced" too.

Prefix customization would be nice and allows users some control over what kind of hat they wear. I feel that join date should play a larger role in the algorithm. Knowing members that have been here a while and joined in the "Halo era" of bnet is going to adjust to a whole new level once all the "newbies" jump on the Bungie Bandwagon this coming year.

I run a private group that uses a very similar title system, it's mostly based like this.

0-2 years = Member or Newbie
3-4 years = Middle School
5-6 years = Old Skool
7+ years = Grizzled Ancient

It's pretty straight forward, and for member that have 10 years here and are still active, I feel deserve a custom title on the mains. (work appropriate obviously). For someone to be kicking around and still actively posting here for over a decade takes some serious dedication.

Can't wait to see how the new title system develops and if it's Bungie related or Bungie's new IP related ;)

I know how to make it better.... Make me Mythic! Jk, but I wish it would show the person how far off they were from new base/prefix like how many more active days or how many more post needed...

  • 02.06.2012 6:10 PM PDT

I don't always ban people but when I do I laugh uncontrollably...that's if I was a Forum Ninja.

Truth is a matter of perception.

The Button

When you say "input what they want their title to be", do mean they can name it what they want? Instead of my Exalted I can name it what ever I want? If that's the case then there are going to have to be some very strict regulations and possible more work for the Webteam/Ninjas.

  • 02.06.2012 6:12 PM PDT

I think a system that elminates the "hierarchy" we have now would be a good thing. By having a system that is more "unlockable" driven rather than titles and prefixs having more weight than others. It would encourage more even footing for all us non moderators. By elminating the suggestion of an uneven playing field the excuse for elitism is all but elminated.

Tru7h. C4RN4GE. Bungie.

I don't directly associate the Halo reference with the site titles. I actually prefer the current title system. I don't think that should change, but it is all subjective.

I fully agree. The title system is nice, but I am all for it being completely revamped. Revamped into something more.

Destiny or bungie specific titles.

Maybe something that levels you up by posts?

I don't see an issue with the current title system, they're shiny, arbitrary, and meaningless. They only show that the user with a title is capable of following the rules.

I'm sure the new ones would be equally arbitrary, however I don't think I'm sold on the proposed change.
