Ugh...

First on a BWU.. yeah, I'm cool.

ODST;MYTHIC Screenshot winner! One of the first to get their hands on the mythic map pack.

I thought about that too, but then I think about it and I realize that it's not likely.

Bungie had job listings for PS3 engineers or something like that, job description being along the lines of porting from the 360 to PS3. So I don't think that we will see this new game on the next generation, I think it will be on this generation.

If I'm right about the new consoles, the next Playstation and the next Xbox coming out in 2014 sometime, Bungie still has the time to release this game and have a pretty full game life until the next generation of consoles comes out.

I believe Destiny will be released sometime in the Fall of 2013. They had a lot of pre-production time. I believe they are around a year into production, maybe a little bit longer. They are so dark and secretive about their game because it's early in the development cycle. Soon though we will get a teaser most likely.

Although, if rumors are correct, and the consoles are coming out 2013 holiday season, Destiny will probably be on the next generation. But, I think consoles come 2014, which gives this new IP a year of life on the consoles we have now. (Longer since not everyone will go out and buy the new consoles right away)

You can't name a single AAA-caliber title for PC or console that is also compatible with a lesser system. It simply doesn't happen, almost by definition of being such a title.

Si-!

For those predicting a 2015 release date for the PS4, xbox720- NO FREAKING WAY.
Right now Nintendo has the almost the entire casual console gaming audience. The only thing keeping Microsoft and Sony ahead is their ability to play more hardcore modern games.

The WiiU would have THREE years to steal back most if not all of the hardcore consumers. Microsoft and Sony are not that stupid. Does anybody really think that they were telling the whole truth when they talked about their business plan. Secrets make money you know.

The first to do so will reap enormous subscription rewards. Case in point xbox live vs PSN bottom line.[/quote]You're not even making any sense. We are not talking about PCs or iPads, and even if we were, you bet your ass that I'm suggesting that big-budget PC games don't do this. Because they don't. You can't name a single AAA-caliber title for PC or console that is also compatible with a lesser system. It simply doesn't happen, almost by definition of being such a title.

The WiiU won't steal back any hardcore gamers. The WiiU is a half step up, not a whole generation leap. The WiiU will be compatible with this generation of games. Darksiders 2, and other games that I can't remember. It has a unique gimmick that will be interesting for most likely, FIRST PARTY games. First party games are the only reason why hardcore gamers will buy a WiiU.

For the Zelda's, the Mario's, not because it's going to be so hardcore. The WiiU is basically an add-on to the Wii. It will add something to the Wii's experience.

But when the next generation of consoles come out, the Xbox720 and PS4, the WiiU won't be able to compete head to head probably. The hardcore gamers will buy either an Xbox720 or a PS4, because that's where the real hardcore games are. The WiiU might not even be able to have newly developed titles on it. The WiiU might be outdated for third party games.

In which case, it's just a system for First party titles. IF it can go head to head with the PS4 and Xbox720, well then hardcore gamers will still pick up an Xbox or Playstation. Why? Because Xbox and Playstation are way better at some things than Nintendo. Like online play.

Yes but it does highlight the game engine, artwork and other development assets being retooled for the same IP or game(s).

It also shows just how fast this sort of development is done when the lifecycle has such vision from the beginning.

If this is the new standard to maximize the game/IP to installed player base, devices and platforms then with Bungie wanting to bite off more then they can chew it points to beyond this defacto standard we already have.

What's larger scale? Potential answers are -

1. A persistent single universe for all these games to interact with (multi-platform).

2. Multi-generation game engine spanning current and next generation consoles.

3. Player input greater than the developers, e.g. modding, real time dynamic story etc.

Any off these will fill the Bungie brief and potentially we may see all or combinations of these points.

Well just because I'm bored I found 2 anagrams of ASKLON.

1. Lank So
2. Sank Lo

To me Lank So is totally unrelated. However Sank Lo breaks down to "sank" means go below or to the bottom of something where "Lo" means attract attention or view an amazing event.

Seems ASKLON is an anagram of SANK LO and the designer was just messing around with those words to make ASKLON.

I don't see a hidden meaning thus far, unless another poster takes something from my post here.

V: I can assure you I mean you no harm.
Evey Hammond: Who are you?
V: Who? Who is but the form following the function of what and what I am is a man in a mask.
Evey Hammond: Well I can see that.
V: Of course you can. I'm not questioning your powers of observation; I'm merely remarking upon the paradox of asking a masked man who he is.
Alas, so many quotes, so little room in the signature box.

If Bungie's looking to get players to really invest in their game, I think they'd make a game that no matter what platform you play on, you contribute to your player. I think that could explain the player economy position that they posted.

When DVDs are finally abolished, that is when the next step will happen.

GameStop will retard the abolishing of DVD's for a while simply because that is what they're business revolves around. If the next consoles were to wait for that, we could be here for a while.

If Destiny was going to be on 8th generation, then why is bungie hiring those who have experience with PS3 game development?

1. Just that previous experience with the same console manufacturer and PSN etc.

2. Nothing stops Destiny being on PS3 and the new PS console, now does it?

*sigh*

I've already acknowledged that numerous games have similar cross-platform media. This is nothing new -- hell, NES's Super Mario Bros. had a stripped-down version released for the Game Boy.

But your post wayyy back on pages 1-2 insisted that new titles for the XBox 720 would have to be "backwards compatible" to be playable on the XBox, and suggested that this already exists with other titles, including those for the PS3.

As I pointed out previously already on page 2: "But no, you will never see a AAA-caliber title developed for the most advanced console also be compatible with older consoles." I was clearly not talking about stripped down/lesser versions of those titles.

"Backwards compatible" is not the same thing as having a "stripped down" version of a AAA title coming out on mobile/inferior platforms. As I've already said, all of your examples are irrelevant, and you and I agree that Bungie is likely to come out with cross-platform media for its next universe. Can we please let this go now?

Was the Witcher 2 not designed for the PC? Now it is being made available on the 360, a much inferior system. Why don't you think it is possible that as consoles become more PC-like, the marketing around such systems couldn't change?

Posted by: Moose427That's not what backwards compatible means. Foman is talking about backwards compatibility, not multi-platform releases on more/less inferior/superior consoles.

He was also talking about AAA-caliber titles. While Witcher 2 may have been a good game (getting an 88 on Metacritic), I haven't heard of it at all until just now. And, to me, AAA-caliber games also includes a criterion for popularity and public recognition.

So, please everyone, stop labeling mobile gaming as "lesser" or inferior. It's an ignorant and uneducated statement based on nothing more than an opinion.

Yeah, I could use the term "less powerful in terms of hardware performance capability and storage capacity."

That said, I agree with the gist of what you were saying, and retract anything I said that may lead people to believe that I dislike or look down upon mobile gaming as a platform and/or titles released for mobile platforms. I love mobile gaming and think that some of the most innovative and interesting game developers are currently developing primarily for mobile platforms.

I was talking purely and solely in terms of hardware performance capability and storage capacity, and in that context, I think what I said still holds true and is also largely irrelevant to this thread.

That's why I want to let it go and allow the discussion to drift back to more relevant issues.

It's probably an acronym of a sentence or phrase. Bungie has a colorful history with those (bottom of page).

Here is a little more information about why the next generation consoles are coming sooner than you think...this will relate to Bungie's next game!

- This is @ GDC 2012 -
Epic will also unveil a preview of its next-generation game technology, Unreal Engine 4, to select licensees, partners and prospective customers during the exhibition. Space is very limited, and appointments and non-disclosure agreements are required to see the Unreal Engine 4 presentation.

Link

Now we've already seen the Unreal Engine 3 goes far beyond what the current generation consoles can perform. Now why would epic steam ahead with a new engine without having PC approximations, code libraries or prototypes of the new generation consoles?

The answer is simple, they wouldn't! Behind all the corporate NDA's etc these guys have clearly been using PC approximation dev-kits and in development code libraries so their new engine can target a wide range of consoles, PC's and devices.

There's also articles around that the prototype next gen consoles are now in the hands of developers or in manufacturing now.

So I state this again...get ready for new consoles soon and expect Bungie's next game to be multi-platform AND multi-generation.

Some extra links for those interested -

Dev Kits

Rockstar hiring for next generation

Bethesda hiring for next gen

Quick Jobs for Hire related to next gen criteria

A very realistic article with great resources and insight. Basically a chance for late 2012 but a definite on next gen for 2013.

As you can see next gen is dawning and I think it's far closer than the press releases, Microsoft or Sony etc would have us believe.

I'm hoping a new xbox hits before XMAS this year. However it seems to be 2013.

If 2013 then Bungie's game is a definite for next gen and a I'm guessing current gen too due to the sheer potential for sales.

Same as Halo 4, hopefully the engine they have built allows the game to play on 360 and next gen when available.
